QUESTION:
My stats have been hidden from all except friends because I had a stalker. How will the changes affect me? Will HQ just allow us to post our own checker results? (FWIW I had logs deleted by a CO who didn't follow the official rules and insisted I post script from Project GC and not a screenshot of my stats, which is a whole other issue of course!)

If I had to make all my stats and finds open publicly I would have to stop using challenge checkers. That would mean HQ forcing people to be public and I would think that also breaks privacy laws? Confused here!

Since only the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges//111081 is being used for the cache, I would like to ask you to unlink the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges//111068 with the tag 111068 from the GC code. I hope this is possible.
it is possible to adjust the general script-output, which is displaying the 81-matrix?

Challenge ratings - what's your take? (3 replies)

Hey folks, Merry Christmas.

What are your hot takes on challenge ratings?
Back in the day there were tough challenges with the stout challenges spilling their difficulty over to the terrain rating, so a roadside hide that was T1 or 1.5 would get a terrain rating much higher to reflect the travel or terrain you face in completing the challenge. You could call it, inflating the rating, but somewhat appropriately.
Lately it seems there has been a push to have the terrain rating of the challenge's hide be the terrain rating you advertise, so a challenge with terrain 4 is going to be up a mountain, a tree, in stormwater tunnels, or something of that ilk. try to cluster them so you are rewarded for the long hike with lots of high Terrain challenges.

This has led to a significant number of challenges that are terrain 1.5 and considered by some to be less desirable, like those who are trying to get their average terrain rating higher.

This pushes me to hide challenges in the higher terrain settings so the rating is genuine but the high terrain chasers can get their... fix.I try to cluster them so you are rewarded for the long hike with lots of high Terrain challenges, making it worth your while if you are from out of town just travelling through as a challenge tourist.

Some locals have complained that they want to find my challenges which they have accomplished, but their health makes it really tough to get to and sign them. I was thinking of moving to high reach containers as a workaround middle ground, so the approach is easy enough for them, but the hiding spot without a reaching tool is still high terrain. You can't please everyone, but I sure try and get the majority.

Has anyone else wandered this thought path? I'd love to hear your take on things.

Also, whaddaya think to a super easy beginner challenge that has a hard hiding spot to inflate its difficulty rating far beyond the challenge itself? Challenges tend to be quick to find to facilitate those travelling through as challenge tourists.

I welcome disagreement and varying views, my ego needs to be kept in check.

Can you help me understand which unique challenges are still allowed with the new system? Can anyone share how they have modified some of the old, grandfathered challenge types to fit the new system?

For example, Jasmers are not allowed anymore, since you can "unqualify" for them over time. So up here we did Governor challenges, where you had to find a cache hidden in each month of a governor's tenure, i.e. for Sarah Palin you had to find a cache hidden in every month from December 2006 to July 2009. We also had someone do "25 years of goecaching," where you had to find one cache hidden in every month for 25 straight years. This is like a jasmer, but you cannot unqualify.

So my question is, what are some other modifications you all are seeing to allow fun challenges that are similar to golden oldies, but still allowable?
What are some of the coolest NEW challenge caches you have seen hidden?
If anyone is really bored, please take a look at the Aurora Challenge Trail up here and let me know if you have ideas for other cool challenges we should add.

Hello,

Since the guidelines are a little stricter, I wanted to ask if the following challenges would still be possible:

1.) Event type in x countries – e.g., log an event in 20 countries.
2.) Form a word from the first letters of countries. E.g., BIRD is formed from Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Denmark.
(Guidelines exclude cache titles, etc., but not countries.)

Thanks,

Hello,

I think, the counter showing the number of qualifying items and the counter showing how many are still required to complete the challenge also include the owner’s test attempts.

That skews the counts for cachers during normal operation of the checker. In theory I could record both numbers after finishing the tests and subtract them later, but that’s rather impractical.

So I try to perform as few tests as possible. Test attempts most likely distort the challenge difficulty rating (the number above the skull).

IMHO, there is a simple solution: Reset both counters to zero when the cache is published.

Would it be feasible to implement this?
Greetings

I have an idea for a challenge that I haven't read anything about yet, and no one in my circle has ever heard of such a challenge either.

However, I am concerned that it is not programmable, so I would like to ask beforehand whether it is even feasible.

The challenge is:

To be allowed to log the cache, you must have given five caches the first favorite point.

Is it possible??
Thank you!

Bei den Checkern ist eine Schwierigkeit angegeben.(Z.B. beim Reiter Challenge in der Profilstatistik Matrix Schwierigkeiten)
z.B.

Somehow only just learned about this fun checker and the awesome map: https://project-gc.com/Tools/360home
I don't see any caches with a 360 challenge except the one in NH for 360 Massachusetts (which is tough but also odd - why is it in NH?!).

Anyway is it feasible - since Project GC has a checker - to create a challenge that the finder has to fulfill the 360 from their home? I almost fulfill it (probably will aim to, just 6 needed), so could feasibly create a challenge if allowed. It isn't time based and geographical challenges are allowed IIRC?

The guidelines say 'Attributes, as long as only one attribute is chosen. '
Would this be allowed or not allowed? It's only chosen one attribute to find; the other is excluded.
