[Resolved] We need a challenge checker for GC5M7ER.

Hi,

we need a challenge checker for my capital challenge.

1. you must have cached in at least 7 capitals worldwide

and while

2. at least a cache in the capital have found, which is not a traditionell!

The cache must be within the city border.

Is it possible?

THX

No, there is no way to consistently determine whether a cache is within a capital city without defining polygons for each. This would fall under the "user-defined mapping polygons" exclusion under guideline 10: http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=206

The alternative is to use the best approximation whit the available region , county

First you have not defined what a capital is. Is it only for countries? or can Hanover be used as the capital of Lower Saxony?
Even if polygons was allowed i don't think "The cache must be within the city border. " Is a good enough definition.
City borders are not a universal concept. And for that matter not even capital

We can all agree that London is the capital of the UK. There is a "City of London" but it is only a small part of the city and the parlament/goverment etc is not there.
They are in Greater London (City of London is not a part of greater London) more specifically the borough City of Westminster.

Should Amsterdam be used as the capital of the Netherlands? It is the jure capital but the seat of goverment is The Hauge since 1588

South Africa has 3 capitals Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein
More strange cases

There would be a problem with defining all capitals that is that the it is a to long list and that is no allowed
You could limit it to capitals of Europe that is likely short enough list
Define the capital with the country/region/county as used on pgc. county might nog be appropriate in all cases
They can be found on http://project-gc.com/Tools/MapCompare

Or if you are a paying member http://project-gc.com/Tools/MapCounties http://project-gc.com/Tools/MapRegions

Hi and thx for your answer.
I mean capitals only for the countries. For example Berlin is the capital of Germany, Rome-Italy, Amsterdam-Netherlands, Copenhagen-Denmark and so on.
For europe is also good and i can change the listing.
What should i do next?

Create a list of the Country/region/county that should be uses.
I suspect you need to incde it in the cache description
And create an post one for all countries in europe as below
in som case Country/region/county should be used and in some Country/region and even only Country as below.
The names has to be the same as used on pgc
Use for example http://project-gc.com/Tools/MapCompare to get the names
It will then be easy to add the extra needed for the config.
The extra requirement of one cache is not a trad is possible but the resulting checker output will be confusing. That is if my mutliple test checker is uses. I suggest that you remove that. I would be surprised if someone have find in 7 capitals and have not logged a not trad in it.

config format to post: names has to be what pgc uses

"country":"Italy","region":"Lazio", "county":"Roma"
"country":"Vatican City State"

I noticed that a checker for this was made by king-ton on 2016-08-26 http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC5M7ER/22417

I suggest that the CO look att the config.
There is in my opinion some problem.
The first one is that the countys are not in the config and it is quite hard to know what is considered countries in the checker.
For example:
"Capital Region"
"Област София-Град"
Is not obvious whee it is. The counry should be included in the tag

And in some cases the selected areas are quite large
The region "Hovedstaden" in Denmark is the northern part of the island Zealand and include other cities like Helsingør that is not a part of the capital. Also the island Bornholm 130km away is included. It is possible to include multiple counties in the filter ex:
"county":["København","Frederiksberg"]

I have talked with the owner of this challenge because he lives only some kilometers away from my homezone.
I enabled the checker that he can check the current configuration. I know that some countys/regions are very big. In some cases it is possible with smaller area and I will edit that. The idea with country configuration is good and i will change that
I also talked with a local reviewer and he means it is ok to use polygon data for all countries which no region data in pgc.

The checker ( http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC5M7ER/22660 ) was created together with the co and the topic can be marked as "Resolved".

I was goint to write status change but i looked at the checker.

You config includes min and max lattitude like the following line
{country="Sweden",region="Stockholm",minlatitude=59.291667, maxlatitude=59.375, minlongitude=17.966667, maxlongitude=18.108333},

The problem is that that is not allowed
guideline 10 not allowed
Quote

Challenges based on geographic areas other than countries, states/provinces, counties (or their local equivalent). For example, user-defined mapping polygons, latitude/longitude, radius, etc. (updated Aug 2016)

The only geographical limitations that is allowed are country/region/county. No other limitations are allowed
You have to change it to the best aproximation with those as limits

I've talked with the local reviewer before I create the checker. He means its ok because the most based on county/region data. The polygons are additional and only makes it easier to fulfill the challenge.

Strange way to read the guidlines since it is quite explicit that only country/region/county is ok and anything else is not allowed.
Other that have asked rewiever for similar limits have hade it denied.
I assume you have asked after the august update of the guidelines

I would not be surprised if it will be archived by HQ if they notice it
But i mark this thread as resolved and archive it
