[Awaiting feedback] Event Related Challenge

Hi everyone,

A bit of an odd one here, as we're looking at the feasibility of incorporating a challenge within a large scale event, and would need a checker for it.

The crux of this we'd be looking to require the attendees to select one of two teams to represent when they sign up for the event through an external website. This should be allow us to have a database of which team members are on which side. Then we'd pit the teams against each other for finding the greatest number of caches.

What we need to be able to do is insert that list of usernames for each team into checker with a specific date set, which can then spit out a total number of caches found. It doesn't need to store the lists permanently. It also, doesn't need to do both teams at once as I imagine it's far easier to run the thing twice (and certainly better for server load).

Is this at all feasible, and if so, how would we need to format the lists of names to enable the checker to be run? Could something as simply as splitting them up by a semicolon be sufficient for the checker to be able to count each user's daily total and sum them all? I'm asking the question now some time ahead of the event simply to ensure that when we start doing the ticketing that we can set it up to allow us to do this.

Thanks!

Brian

Quick answer: No.

More detailed answer:
There are two main issues with your idea:
1. You are not checking an individual's qualifications for a challenge. The checker system is designed for checking whether a single cacher has met a set of criteria, where you're wanting to compare two groups.
2. Your "challenge" would never be allowed as a challenge cache, given it doesn't comply with several of the guidelines, not least of which is guideline 14:
Quote
Not acceptable
Competition rather than achievement; example, a challenge based on "First to Finds" is a competition.
It also seems to be disallowed by guidelines 5, 6, 8, 9 and 13.

This is not to say that you can't have such a competition as part of your large-scale event. But you can't have any geocache qualification attached to it (maybe have some sort of physical prize) and you'd have to figure out some other way to check/track it.

This thread has not received any further feedback and will therefor be moved to ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible). Should the requester have any queries he can raise his question on this thread in the archived section,
