Re: Top 100 Statistics Finders for Specific County

[Cancelled] Top 100 Statistics Finders for Specific County
March 02, 2017 07:53PM
I was wanting to do a checker to see if you are in the top 100 cachers for United States:California:Kern County for the following Project-GC Statistics in Find Stats.

Top Finders
Top Caches in a Day
Top Caches in a Month
Top Caches in a Year
Top Points in a Day
Top MD Caching Points
Top Found Percent

So for example I am currently #4 in Kern County in the Top Finds. So if we ran the top 100 checker it would say something like, "Congrats, you are #4 in Kern County Top Finds!"

However in Top Caches in a Day I am #291. So if we ran it it would say, "You have not met the Top 100 Finds in Kern County in a Day." or verbiage similar to that. Basically it would say I haven't met the requirement.

Thank you!

So making a checker for this so I can make a challenge of it isn't a checker? Click the link and it says whether you are in the top 100 or not? It seems like a checker to me.

Such a challenge would not be allowed. Guideline #14 ( http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=206#positiveCriteria ) disallows:
Competition rather than achievement; example, a challenge based on "First to Finds" is a competition.
Being in the top 100 would be considered a competition. You're competing with all other cachers to achieve/maintain that status.

You also fall foul of Guideline #4 ( http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=206#sourceOfCriteria ):
Challenge cache criteria
must come from information broadly available on Geocaching.com such as on the statistics page, cache placement dates, types, attributes, souvenirs, etc.
must be verifiable through information on Geocaching.com.

The top lists are not available on Geocaching.com.

Additionally, for multi-part challenges, the CO must achieve all parts even if the challenge can be met in an alternate method. (This is reviewer guidance provided by GroundSpeak rather than explicitly listed on the Guidelines page.) You stated that you are not in the top 100 for Top Caches in a Day.

And finally, this challenge would not necessarily be verifiable at any time except the instant they find your challenge.

Can I request we look at this again since I have published the ones that didn't qualify as challenges as what I call "UnChallenges"? Here are the relevant links.

There is a difference between "BCS: Find 500 Caches in Kern County Challenge" and the others which all carry the name "UnChallenge" in the title.
The system picked up the first one but does not recognise the others. The word challenge has to be in the title otherwise the checker system will delete automaticly the checker.
500 Caches in Kern County would not cause a problem because this checker is within the Groundspeak guidelines. The others are however not acceptable under the new guidelines

Is there any interest from Project GC to say the hell with Groundspeak's lame challenge rules and develop checkers for non-challenges? Probably not because the poor Groundspeak reviewers would have to spend so much of their time saying no to challenge requests people think can be challenges because there are checkers for them. However, is there a way to flag the now grandfathered challenge checkers to show users they can't be new challenges?

I just get so tired of being told no on good challenge ideas because of all of these restrictive rules.

As far as I know and hope that PGC is and will remain within the guidelines of Groundspeak.
