Re: Checker needed for a special souvenir challenge (GC864WW)

After thinking about the info obtained in this forum (https://project-gc.com/forum/read?9,27815,27815#msg-27815) I decided to give it a try. My local reviewer is on board.

The (relatively easy) challenge has the following requirements:

- in one month you need to have achieved 5 souvenirs
- in another month you need to have achieved 4 souvenirs
- in another month you need to have achieved 3 souvenirs
- in another month you need to have achieved 2 souvenirs
- in another month you need to have achieved 1 souvenir

As far as I can see, this would require a script to be created or modified.

If no one else knows an existing script to do this, I will create one in the next day or two.

Although I like the idea - Would this be considered "Time Limited" caching? Which is not allowed.
At the same time - I find Groundspeak doing time limited caching by doing the Cache Carnival to earn Souvenirs.

I think it is a grey area. Some may consider it to be bordering on time limited caching. My reviewer however does not. ;)

@GreyHams: Are you making progress with the checker? Are you still positive that this can be programmed?

I am coding this now and I am thinking about the comment from 8Nuts MotherGoose and I need to clarify.

Do you mean:
a) "any month from any year needs X"
OR
b) "a month from any year needs X"

a) could potentially run into trouble with the reviewers, but b) would definitely be OK.

For example,
a) I need 5 in a single calendar month (~30 days)
b) I need 5 in ANY January

Can you please clarify with your reviewer.... these 2 options would be coded quite differently

It is a. I showed the reviewer the listing in which I explained why I fulfill the challenge by listing march three times (of three different years)..

Would it be possible to show the progress of those who do not fulfill the requirements? By showing which of the five parts of the challenge they DO meet?

I mean the challenge is pretty easy and it was hard to find people who dont qualify, so if that is not possible or would require to much programming I am fine with this version!

No problems with you asking... if you don't ask you can't fail.

I have just made a small change... the checker logs the first test that fails.... but after that the checker stops. While anything is technically possible, the way the checker works it would be difficult to produce much more than this.

This is checking a local cacher I know that is relatively new....

- 2018-07 attained 12 souvenirs and needed 5
- NOT attained, needed 4, no more tests conducted

Is that better?

simple typo from me... one of the tests had a '>' instead of a '>='

I found another friend of mine that didnt pass.... here are his results. All tests passed except for "5 in a month"

Number of months with number of souvenirs:
- NOT attained, needed 5
- 2019-03 attained 4 souvenirs and needed 4
- 2018-09 attained 4 souvenirs and needed 3
- 2018-12 attained 2 souvenirs and needed 2
- 2018-11 attained 1 souvenirs and needed 1
