Re: Bug / Quirk in Checker for GC8PEC0 - "Same X Different Y" Checker

For cache GC8PEC0 (4 of a Kind Challenge), we're not sure whether or not we qualify, as apparently the caches we have found results in a bit of a bug / quirk, with the checker.

The Script Name is "Same X Different Y" by SeekerSupreme.
The tag appears to have been cloned from tag 13084.

Below is the output we (solid-rock-seekers) receive when running the geochecker:

[solid-rock-seekers](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=solid-rock-seekers) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8PEC0/50547 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.

County:
Idaho - GC5A04 / Fill In The Blanks
Missouri - GC554C / The Chair
Texas - GC5379 / "Timing" is Everything
Wisconsin - GC6C56 / Artesian Well *Virtual*

The above caches are all "locationless" caches which have subsequently been given "middle of the ocean" coordinates but also have a named location of being in a US state. These coordinates apparently result in a "blank" for their "county" determination.

Since we've found 4 locationless caches in different US states, all in the county of "blank" we get success from the geochecker. However, the 4 caches in question don't really satisfy the intent of the cache. We don't know if there is another set of caches we have found which satisfy the challenge, as subsequent successful sets of 4 matching counties in different states are masked by the above incorrect one.

I have ideas on how to change the tag to avoid this problem, but am not an authorized tag author, so I can't try it.

Any ideas?

I've sent SeekerSupreme a message about the script, drawing his(/her) attention to this thread. I also suggested a possible fix based on some experimentation I did.

The experimentation did come up with a solution for you:

County: **Franklin County** (4)
Maine - GC489A / Engineer's memory
Pennsylvania - GCH0ZH / Cheery Oh!
Tennessee - GCA21F / Native American Trail Trees
Vermont - GCD560 / baby, it's cold outside

Thanks for sending SeekerSupreme a message about the script -- I didn't know how to do that!

Thanks also for sending along the details of the caches which satisfy the cache requirements -- that's above and beyond the call of duty!

Happy Caching,

Is this bug being resolved?

Well, yes, and no. sumbloke's investigation resulted in our particular need being satisfied by finding a solution to the cache requirements for us.

However, the checker in question still produces the same original solution, so the bug / quirk is still present:

I issued a new checker with the correct config https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8PEC0/59055

Please test and reply

Nice! That fixes the original problem with the geo-checker coming up with a solution for "blank" counties for the locationless caches we'd found with coordinates out in the middle of the oceans!
