This FAQ suggests a fairly short interval between end of moratorium and allowing new script authors/taggers to register. Any news? http://project-gc.com/Home/FAQ#2616943827 Thanksby rragan - Miscellaneous
It looks like a guideline #10 clarification got added that prohibits polygon-defined areas so that won't work either.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
This cache shows as unpublished. I guess the reviewer will reject it because the new challenge cache guidline #9 disallows time-limited challenges on any new challenge.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
Challenge guideline #12 prohibits challenges such as "find all caches in a specified area". You could pick a fixed number it looks like. https://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=206by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
Ah, the "no polygons" is a recent clarification to the guidelines. I didn't recall seeing it there earlier. A region is explicitly allowed so you should be ok. Later this year I will likely be on holiday in your region but I don't know if I will have time to find the 6 cache types.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
My memories of calculus made me think that polygon became a circle as the number of sides of the polygon approached infinity but this site disagrees with me: http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/55097.html and states 'A circle is not a polygon". I bet all reviewers won't agree on this but if yours is happy, go for it. I'm thinking the guidelines don't say one way oby rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
Isn't a 50 km radius a problem because guideline #10 requires specific geographic regions and not user defined polygons which a 50km circle would seem to be?by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
To learn Lua, I have been working on a script to let folks make a challenge to spell a specified word using names of areas where they have found geocaches. So it would support a challenge to spell GEOCACHE using the first letters of countries, or regions or counties or all of these where you have made a find. The script is mostly done although I'm thinking of adding an option for freeLetby rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
I want to link to a checker for a cache with a bookmark from inside Geosphere app. A URL for a cache I'm viewing is easy to form except for the last numeric part ?script number that external apps don't know. Could that last component support the word "run" and trigger running the checker with whatever tag is associated to that cache? This would be handy where the CO has noby rragan - Miscellaneous
Did you get a sense that all bookmark lists would be unacceptable? Or if the list is some sort of reference list controlled by others like the English Church micro list if that would be ok? Then the list would not be in the primary control of the CO and not violate #11.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
This might be skirting the intent of the guidelines and would likely be struck down with a clarification but right now it does not appear illegal to base a challenge on finding 50 caches on a bookmark list. Just put up a list with all the cemetery caches you can find and more could be added later.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
How would you write the challenge description? Find 50 caches in Washington cemeteries within .2 miles of these coordinates and then list the 153 current hides with cemetery in the title, for example. That sounds pretty weird and I would think you ought to check with your local reviewer before doing too much work. This new guideline might be a problem with the description you would likely haveby rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
You can't use the title or listing text in any way under the new guidelines. I can't think of a way to do it without using those.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
This cache was published in 2013 so it seems it ought not be subject to the new guidelines just because someone wants to add a checker for it -- or does that trigger the new guidelines in some way I missed.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
I'm doing a checker that uses country/region/county names to spell a word (since titles are no longer allowed). For flexibility, I was thinking to offer users these variants of places the user has finds: 1. Use only all counties in a country and region 2. Use only all regions in a country 3. Use only all countries 4. Use all countries, regions and counties (should be the easiest qualifyiby rragan - Miscellaneous
RetiredGuy, Thanks for more info. Do you think all reviewers are likely to demand the proof of 10 in state? As it happens, I grew up in Fla and visit several times a year. As it happens, I meet the 6 continents challenge criteria if that helps.by rragan - Miscellaneous
Will test it once I get approval to write/test scripts. Sigh. I think your utf8_toupper function depends on an array that is defined by a cimport in the original code you derived your version from but the array is not defined since it is never set up. See this code which sets it up in the utf8.lua module --[==[ -- UTF8 functions -- Author: Andrew Stacey -- Website: http://www.math.nby rragan - Miscellaneous
Sorry, unclear. The question was for the poster looking for a tool to find those who could qualify. I assumed, maybe wrongly, that this need arose from a new challenge cache he wanted to hide and wondered what it was.by rragan - Miscellaneous
So PGC_UTF8Len never got implemented? I thought I found a thread on the boards suggesting it was going to be. Thanksby rragan - Miscellaneous
If faced with this, I would use the Top Finders Stat and work my way down the list. I think it would be unusual for finders with more than 10000 finds not to qualify for most challenges. Unless your new challenge is very weird, I guess you would find 10 who qualify in the first 25 you run try. Care to share the challenge? I'm interested in what people are proposing that fit in the new guidelby rragan - Miscellaneous
Are the UTF8 functions no longer there at all? Deprecated? If gone, shouldn't they be removed from the docs? I am using those from your alphabet checker but had a problem wit upper casing because the utf8_data array is not defined anywhere. I ducked the issue by assuming the first character of any country, region or county is always already uppercase. Should there be a json blob for the dby rragan - Miscellaneous
The doxygen sections all for the UTF8xxxx functions say returns uppercase for all the functions including toLower. I suspect a copy/paste error. Also, is there now a UTF8Len function?by rragan - Miscellaneous
That script does not check dates or limit cache types. That said, see reply from Target. The script I found does not meet your needs.by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
It seems the checker for this cache can be used for your needs. You would need to tag yours with the attributes you want. https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC4W30V_geocaching-attribute-challenge-the-20by rragan - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
Does anyone know if the place name (country, region, county) are localized in API responses. For example, in the US would I see Germany and in Germany see Deutschland?by rragan - Miscellaneous
Under the new challenge rules, nothing in titles can be used for a challenge. I've developed a checker that uses country, region, county where you have a find as the source for spelling the challenge phrase. I'm not approved to create scripts nor tag until those roles are opened up again. Hopefully soon. It just occurred to ask if such a script already exists. If not, what tagging sby rragan - Script development
When viewing a checker, the View Source button works but the download button does not. The browser spinner runs for a bit and then the page goes back to what it was. I tried it on an iPad with Safari and Chrome and on a Mac with Firefox. None of them seemed to work.by rragan - Miscellaneous
