Map of challenge caches and/or knowing your general area is usually the best approach. https://project-gc.com/Tools/Challenges?mapby Pleu - Miscellaneous
@bmuzzin Honestly, polygons would probably just make things worse because you would have to use county-borders from before geocaching started which would just be confusing for players. I don't think the CO thought that statement through when placing the challenge really... I'd say the most reasonable way to do this would be to use all the counties that are fully enclosed within tby Pleu - Checker requests
I think you need to provide additional details of what isn't working here. I ran my own name and got red as expected, I ran your name and got green as expected. All of the checkers ran in under 10 seconds. I'm not seeing anything wrong with them.by Pleu - Miscellaneous
@bmuzzin The issue is that it says "You made it..." for a failed result. Failed would mean I haven't made it so it makes no sense to say "You made it.." then. :)by Pleu - Miscellaneous
@vogelbird How would it solve anything to make a new checker that excludes the same caches that the reviewer had issues with?by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
I don't see a point in "fixing" something that's basically a legacy tool or to fix anything that ain't broken. It works as intended, it isn't an issue, dev-time is better spent else where.by Pleu - Challenge checker exceptions
Being a native speaker I'd say it's implied that the caches needs to be different. If you've named yourself zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I'd suggest skipping the challenge or changing your name. :)by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
That's your interpretation of the data. It's just a guess from you that these people have stopped geocaching. You have no real evidence of this being the situation. An other guess could be that not everybody checks this tool daily/weekly/monthly or however often you check it. There's no harm in having people on the moderator team that aren't voting weekly since they could sby Pleu - Challenge checker exceptions
I don't see why it would be necessary to remove or add people just because not everybody have voted on every exceptions. There aren't many caches added nowadays and there are still enough moderators to get the job done. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and all that.by Pleu - Challenge checker exceptions
Were is the number 1282 comming from? Like DeepDiggingMole said if you add the "Added challenges: 864" and "Removed challenges: 419" together that makes 1283 so there should be 1283 in the list? It's also easy to see that not every mod have voted on every challenge based on the statistics: With 13262 upvotes and 5189 downvotes that gives a total of 18451 votes, spreadby Pleu - Challenge checker exceptions
@bmuzzin I ran a couple of people through it and I believe you're giving false positives for people that have the same letter multiple times in their nickname. For example you would get green for both your Z's if you had 3 Z-caches but according to the challenge you would need 6 of those since you have two Z's.by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
Because caches have been removed from the list for some reason. For example I know that I've voted on a cache that was later retracted and haven't been re-published, so it's impossible for anyone else to vote on that specific cache but the vote is still counted even if the cache isn't visible in the list anymore.by Pleu - Challenge checker exceptions
The normal way is to email people or write to them in the message center at GCCOM. Praying that people check a specific forum thread is not a good solution.by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
He might feel differently now since this was a while ago and for a different challenge, but I'd definitely reach out and ask about this specific challenge before doing anything. I'm not his favorite person so I think you or OP probably have better luck there.by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
@bmuzzin For my username I'm getting ":6480: attempt to concatenate a boolean value". Also you seem to have forgot a zero on the Piteå-part of the challenge, it's 150 caches in PIteå, not 15.by Pleu - Checker requests
And the reason that municipality is a bad choice of word is because the US-equivalent isn't allowed for geocaching challenges post-moratorium and isn't used in Project-GC.by Pleu - Checker requests
@Noach! The issue is that there is ~250 countries in the world and that basically means ~250 ways to organize the country in different administrative ways. In the US it's country/state/county/municipality. In Sweden it's land/län/kommun and there isn't any fourth level. If you're looking at how a country is run politically and administrative then "län" is mostby Pleu - Checker requests
Piteå is a county in geocaching so that shouldn't be an issue. It's the county Piteå in the region/state Norrbotten in the Project-GC DB, the translation of OP is incorrect.by Pleu - Checker requests
There are .gml's and shapefiles available which both are polygons.by Pleu - Checker requests
If you're not in a hurry then I don't see the point of these posts at all. Sweden have many script writers, if a challenge lacks a checker it's not because nobody knows about the challenge. It's because we haven't gotten to it yet and usually because it requires a lot of work.by Pleu - Checker requests
@vogelbird I assume you mean me. Either one by one at: https://skyddadnatur.naturvardsverket.se/ Or as the whole country from the EU inspire-portal: https://inspire-geoportal.ec.europa.eu/download_details.html?view=downloadDetails&resourceId=%2FINSPIRE-adae82ae-5364-11e8-bd03-52540023a883_20230616-073102%2Fservices%2F1%2FPullResults%2F451-471%2Fdatasets%2F18&expandedSection=metadata Oby Pleu - Checker requests
@bmuzzin I think you'd probably run in to the issues you're describing with the concave areas and multiple local maxima for Sweden so I wouldn't trust a script that has hardcoded the local maxima. There are a few regions with a smaller cache population and archival of a NESW-cache could move the NESW-point it to the other side of the region due to lack of other caches in the maximby Pleu - Checker requests
I haven't found one that takes all the different requirements but if you want to extend yours I guess that would solve the issue.by Pleu - Checker requests
This is probably few enough names that it's actually possible to make a checker for this one, but since the CO has been vocal about people adding checkers he didn't ask for in regards to other challenges I would not spend any time on this without asking him first.by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
The list is not up to date and can't be used any way. The reasonable way of doing this is with the geographical borders. These can be easily downloaded from Naturvårdsverket but I have not had the time to learn the process for making polygon checkers so since we're apparently in a hurry now I guess it's better that somebody else takes over the project.by Pleu - Checker requests
This one would be impossible since it would give a lot of false negatives due to the limit space for names. There are too many names and it's not possible to have them all in a checker. (Most people just log one of the name-trails, there are plenty so just pick one.)by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
I might be missing something here, but I think this one isn't possible to make a script for and would require a new method. Which in turn is unlikely to happen due to a grandfathered cache that can't be published today. (The easy way to track progress is with https://project-gc.com/Tools/MapNESW)by Pleu - Checker requests
An other cache that needs a one of script. Should probably also be noted that this CO has been vocal against adding challenge checkers to his caches in the past so personally I wouldn't spend any time on a one of-script without consulting him first. (Many of us used the checker for GC54YCK to track our qualifications, you'll just have to do 1,2 manually.)by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (impossible)
This one would have been pretty easy to extend a script for if it wasn't for the last criteria with letters/cachetypes. I believe this one is also in need of a one of-script.by Pleu - ARCHIVE Checker requests (completed)
Pretty sure this one needs a one off-script.by Pleu - Checker requests
