Hello!

I have a lot of duplicate log entries for my own geocaches. That is mostly due to the location where they are hidden. Mobile data connectivity is rather bad in some places in the Austrian alps. ;-)

Now - usually I write to the finder and ask him to remove one of the duplicate log entries, but now there are so many bad logs that I rather ask you for a semi-automated notification system. I rather spend my time creating new creative geocaches than contacting all finders who produced duplicates.

What I have in mind is a button on the "Find Bad Logs" page which (when clicked) sends a message to all finders who produces duplicate log entries. The message text should be customizable by the owner and should contain the GC-code of the cache affected in the subject and/or body of the message.

What do you think about this idea?

Kind regards,
Christian

Personally when I see obvious duplicate logs like this I'll either ignore them or just delete them myself (as cache owner you can delete anybodies logs on your caches). Having a play with the find bad logs page it would probably be nice if there was a way to get a list of all the bad logs - currently it just seems to link through to a random one of the bad logs. Having a way to easily email them does sound like a nice option if you want to be a bit politer and not confuse people when their find counts decrease!

There is no way for Project-GC to send messages via the API.

About what mole125 said, at some point we will redesign the page so that all logs are visible. I don't think it's random now though, it's the first or last I assume, but I don't remember.

You're right I probably should have used 'arbitary' rather than random - though from a users perspective it was random which of the approaches you took :)
An help would be a link to send mail to the user like there are on the challenge tags. Perhaps only visible if you run it on your self
