So, how can you become a member without opening a paypal account (it seems impossible to just pay with my credit card without opening a paypal account, which for so many reasons I *really* do not want to do)?

Sorry, but I really don't know why someone put a "dislike" on this question. If you don't have an answer for it just go ahead .... !?!     I'll put a "like" on it (just to harm the "dislikes" a little bit)
We agree that this was a legitimate positive question and can't see why it was given a negative vote. Giving It a positive vote to bring it back to equilibrium. It's a very relevant question.

I just renewed.  A year ago, living in Denmark it was possible to pay without having a PayPal account.  A few days ago it the UK it was not possible.  I don't know whether it's the country change or the time shift that made the difference, but it almost stopped me renewing.  Almost.

I agree that it *should* be possible, but it certainly wasn't for me.

Unsatisfactory workaround: get a friend who does have PP to pay for you, repay them.  Better solution: PGC makes available another method to ALL users.  After all, if you want money from people you really should make an effort to make that possible ;)

If you can't pay with PayPal without actually opening an account there (which is free), they have changed that. I know it has been possible. As of now, PayPal is the only way Project-GC can accept payment.

It depends on the country whether you can or not, within the Netherlands it is no longer possible. And whilst I really would like a membership to show my support (the site has been tremendously useful), the buck stops at opening an account with paypal for ideological reasons.

I am not an expert with Paypal. But I have heard, that people just change country on the Paypal web to get around the "must register" issue.

If there are any other consequences I do not know.

Unfortunately, when you change the country the card verification fails (as the country does not match the country where the card was issued anymore).
I do not know which fraction of your paying members comes from the EU, but a SEPA payment is free of charge for both parties and very easy - is this an alternative to paypal?
Even though the majority of the customers are within EU, it would be too much effort to implement and maintain SEPA.

It depends on your reasons for not using the PayPal, but in some countries it is very easy to obtain anonymous prepaid credit card and perhaps you can then setup a PP account without revealing personal data.

You may have missed it but their is there is a tag Pay with a debit or credit card.

Go to > Buy Now  > Don't  have a PayPal account? > Pay with a debit or credit card.

I never paid this way but I noticed the option.

That option changes to 'Create a Paypal account' if you live in my country. Unfortunately, this does not work.
