When I add up the number of travel bugs from Project-GC with the Coin Collector number, it matches the same number as my overall count of trackables on the GC website.  So I assume that means Project-GC is miscounting some of the geocoins as travel bugs.  The question is which ones and why?  I'm just trying to figure out what the discrepancy is.  I've tried to figure out which nonTB/geocoins could be the likely culprits but the math never works for me.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm thinking of developing a challenge based on this (assuming it's allowed).

Thanks.

If you decide to hide your statistics, it is hard to investigate what is the issue with them: https://project-gc.com/ProfileStats/sapien
Whoops!  Completely forgot I had them hidden.  I've unhidden them now.  Sorry about that.

I don't know the answer to your actual question, but I can tell you that the current guidelines (https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=127&pgid=206) don't allow basing a challenge on trackables.

Hmm, good to know.  Thanks for the info.  I guess that eliminates that idea.

I'd still like to know why the numbers differ though.

OK. So today, your project-gc shows 840 unique coins and 498 unique travel bugs. On the other hand, geocaching shows 1338 trackables.

Math here matches for me: 840+498 = 1338

The 498 number is the one that is in question.  That's what Project-GC shows as the number of unique TBs touched but GC.com shows my Travel Bug Dog Tags count to be 493.  Why is there the discrepancy?  Since the overall trackables total is the same, Project-GC must be counting some of the coins as TBs.  So then, which ones and why?
Then please try to be as specific as possible when asking the question next time. This is because some other type is also counted in the travel bug category. I see you miss 5 travel bugs count. Checking the source code of the GSAK BadgeGen macro, also the "Unite for Diabetes Travel Bugs" are counted in there, which adds three more. I am not sure how exactly this is implemented inside of PGC, since there is much more trackables with the words "travel bug" in the name, but probably not all of them count here.
Sorry about that; I tried to explain myself as well as possible in my detailed description (vs the subject line) but I tried to avoid explicitly listing numbers, mainly because they can change randomly as my stats are updated on Project-GC and obviously as I log more coins and TBs.

Anyways, from what it sounds like, there is no way of finding out why my travel bug (and subsequently my coin) count(s) are different.  Thanks for investigating.  Perhaps this is a bug in the code that needs to be fixed?  Or at least documented?

Thanks.
