I recently noticed that on the PC (Windows 10 / Firefox) and on the Android smartphone every click on the map opens the following URL:

http://www.geocaching.com/membership/default.aspx

Is this a bug or a promotional campaign?

Think you do NOT have a paid membership of PGC. You have to be a (paid) member to get the map compare.

I would recommend to get a paid membership as you get a lot of very good features. See the list of features of a paid membership at the bottom of the link/site you got.
