Why do Challenge caches give you credit for states not visited?

I have logged a few challenge caches, but im getting credit for states I havent been to. Im not sure how I feel about getting credit for some places I havent visited.  Also getting them counted as finds, and points towards Reach the Peak.  Thoughts?

Do you mean that you are logging challenge caches as found without having visited the location? That's not how it's supposed to work; you need to both complete the qualification and visit the location to sign the log (and that means that you will have visited the place in question).

I have looked at your finds and it seems you have not logged any Challenge caches - have you since deleted what you said you have logged ?

@Deepdiggingmole Compare maps vs souvenirs. The user has the souvenir for Michigan, Florida, California, Indiana and Oregon even tho they have zero finds in those states according to the maps. They also logged California, Indiana and Oregon on the same day as this post. The most likely explanation for this is that they've deleted their incorrect finds after getting the answer from pinkunicorn.
