Caches show up in wrong county ?

Geocaching.com shows this cache in North Dakota

Project-GC shows this cache in South Dakota

GC5JQQ7 - This is not the only cache that has this issue.

Any way to get Project-GC to use the county location from Geocaching.com

Project-GC does not trust the state information on the cache since the cache owner can set that to anything. Instead, the state is set according to the coordinates. For caches very close to a border (or where the CO has purposefully set the state to something weird), the value on Project-GC and the value on geocaching.com can differ.

Thanks for letting me know. Shame it works that way. I guess from my viewpoint what is in geocaching.com (right or wrong) is the control data not the other way around. We tried to be more careful later on caching to avoid this gotcha. Maybe some day we will make it back to ND to get credit for a find in that state.

I hate to be that guy but another option is the border data that project-pc uses for locating the border line is incorrect. Google Earth shows the caches in question in ND. Some other maps also show them in ND some in SD. Just FYI.

@Team Jim and Bev Or Google Earth is incorrect. The map data Project-GC uses is updated when errors are found, and it's generally based on the TIGER-data.

@Team Jim and Bev, I don't know what in that comment that you reacted too. I didn't intend to be a jerk, I'm just saying that Google Earth is not perfect and sometimes it's incorrect. English is not my first language so you might have added a "tone of voice" on your own that don't exist here.

Sorry you are quite correct I did read to much into your response. I was born in the USA so English is not my first language /s

btw the problems with the location of the border between SD/ND in that area are more than just Google Earth displays. Other mapping software also has issues.
Since I was there the states of SD and ND are also confused about it and need to move some of their signs. Anyway take care and sorry again.
