Having seen a couple of questions regarding this feature I am still a little confused
I saw the question about checking an area of challenge caches and the response was
Auto-challenge-checkers - Challenge checkers are automatically processed in the background to see which challenges you fulfill.
You will then see your checker results on any map that shows a challenge cache.

So I went to this section and had a look at an area in Belgium/Luxumbourg that I might be visiting soon

The result came back with 16 challenges - 5 with the green ticks, 3 with red circles and the rest with blue question marks (I think that is what they are)
I had a look at all the blue ones and noted that I did qualify for 6 of the 8

I then checked out a question regarding the icons remaining blue and the repsonse to that was
Project-GC auto-runs up to 500 challenge checkers per day for users with a paid membership so waiting a day or two will probably take care of most of the challenges in the area closest to you.
So....

This was the second search I had done as the first one defaulted to my own area - between the two searches it totalled 480 caches

So my question is why if it seems I had not reached that daily limit would the blue marks be there - and is the comment about 'closest to you' specifically relevant - does this mean any searches beyond those 'closest' return this sort of output every time ?

Thanks

Doing a search of an area does not mean that auto-checkers will run for that area. They have their own rules for when and where they run.

The background processing of the auto-challenge-checkers is explained in the wiki, I think that should answer your questions: https://project-gc.com/w/Auto-challenge-checkers
