Why do I get this message so often "Site exhausted, please come back later (in a minute or so)"

This is just my curiousity but when working on the challenge checker I get the above message increasingly often.

The Q&A page is then no affected.

I am curious to what "so often" means.

Generally it is because some server has a high load. This happens quite frequently, maybe even a few times per day. Under normal conditions it's not more than for 1-2 seconds. But about an hour ago we did some maintenance work which increased the load a lot and there was a downtime for maybe 15 minutes. This is quite rare as far as I know.

Not the original questioner, but I ran into this three different times today while working on a new challenge script.  Each time, it seemed to take 2-3 minutes before I was able to get back on.

I've never seen it other than today.

I had an internet connection problem myself for a little while.

But to answer your question It happened today about 10 time and about an hour ago for a period of about 5 minutes.

Yesterday it happened also very frequently but I'm no counting the times.
It happens already for more than a week. Before that it was only once or twice.

You can see on the activity log that I'm slowing down this week.

But I'm not certain it is your end of my own ASDL connection.

No matter how slow your internet connection is it cannot cause this response (site exhausted).
The message is delivered from the server and relates to server load somehow.
I see it a few times a week.

To me it happened twice yesterday. I'm not writing scrips or something,I'm just an ordinary user. Since Christmas the phenomena has increased. A couple of days a week I get this message, but short stops. Most frequently on Sunday afternoon, (Swedish afternoons). I thought it depended on the popularity of the site and tried not to check for my statistics at the same time all the others seem to do it.
