I've shared a virtual gps file with cachers going on a future trip. The puzzles have all been solved. In my virtual GPS the caches map out at corrected coords. However, in everyone elses it shows original coords. Is this by design or are we doing something wrong. We've rebuilt the gps file, but still no luck. Thanks

It's by design. Sharing solution is not something that one normally wants to, or should, do. The design is to share the list of geocaches, and the usernote fields that exists in the table.

You could use the usernote fields to share the solutions, but it is a bit of work. First you will have to copy the solutions into one of the user fields, then the other person needs to copy them from there into their cache notes.

We have been considering an automatic solution, but it's not anything that will happen soon, with two main reasons.

  1. Sharing cache solutions is generally not the right thing to do, and we are afraid that the side-effect will be that we will support something that we don't want to. But there are of course cases where it is correct.
  2. Automatically writing to users personal cache notes or corrected coordinates could potentially remove data that they already have.

Totally makes sense, thanks for the quick response.
Then whats the point of sharing the virtual GPS???
If you are planning a trip with friends, you can start a Virtual GPS. Everyone can then add the geocaches they want to log. They can write comments of why. Then everyone can download the GPX.

I have personally used Google docs for the same purpose before, but it's very cumbersome since it has no connection to the cache data. Manually writing gc-codes, cache names and d/t ratings is far from as smooth.
I've used Google maps for planning as well and this is SOOOOO much better. Thanks for all the time and work everyone has put into this. AND thanks for the quick response time.
I do understand the not sharing with others part, but if you are with a group going on an adventure you need to be able to share information including final cords and mapping. I do like this way of planning but still belive you should be able to share all information with other members in your circle.
