I checked a handful of the mentioned caches and none of them had an elevation below 0 so to me this looks like a recalculation of data (something that's done occasionally as the point of Project-GC is to have active and correct data) and not a bug.

Order of caches in a day for statistics is incorrect

On the statistics page it is clearly stated that "Adventure Lab caches are sorted last for each day due to technical limitations and differences between various logging methods of geocaches.". However that seems to be untrue. The statistics page claims that my 17000th cache find was a lab cache found on 29th of June. After looking at this statistic, I logged several "real" caches on the same day, which should now be placed before the lab caches and make my 17000th find a "real" cache. That did not happen after regenerating the statistics, though. The 17000th find remains the same lab-cache as shown before.

So based on those observations, I would assume that the info that lab caches are always sorted last for a day is incorrect. Can somone confirm this bug or explain the behaviour?

Profile Stats, FTF tab - average D & T improperly calculated?

The average difficulty and average terrain in the FTF tab of Profile Stats seems to be improperly calculated (at least in my stats) - both seem to be rounded down to nearest whole number while in the Finds tab they are rounded to two decimal places.

I feel that the average D & T should also be rounded to two decimal places in the FTF tab, and I even recall that that might have been the case previously.

Problems with counting of visits to my caches? A deviation relative to Cache Owner Dash. surprises me.

I discovered a shot time ago that I could find the number of visitors to my caches on Cache Owner Dashboard, and they fit reasonably with the numbers on Project-PC. As expected there were som misfit, simply because the Project-GC needs some time to update the number.

But I started to follow these numbers, and there seem to be a certain misfit that is slowly growing, and the misfit seems to be completely independent of if I have had 50 visits on a day, or if it was a day with hardly any visits.

At the moment Cache Owner Dashboard claims 52555 visits, whereas the very recent update on "Hides" on Project-PC gives me 52527, a difference of 28. I got close to 40 visits today, but the last one was 4-5 hours before the update.

I would not have been to worried about this alone, there may be some delay somewhere. But the difference seems to be slowly increasing, and it was also close to 20 a few days ago, when bad weather gave few visits on my caches.

So is this real difference, or something that will "heal itself" with a bit of patience?

Disabled the tag. I also noticed that the CO have used an incorrect link for their cache page (the checker image is for tag 102763 and not the linked 102897). If you're in contact with the CO I would suggest you ask them to fix this as it's risk of causing similar confusions as people will have the green tick mark on the cache page but still might not fulfill the challenge.

The rules for the API-agreement says that Project-GC is not allowed to show premium caches to basic members so how you're supposed to verify a log under these circumstances is something you would have to discuss with Geocaching HQ.

Issues sharing virtual gps with other paid members

I shared my virtual gps with a friend, he got the "conversation" that it was shared with him, but when he goes to view it by clicking on the link it gives him a completely different virtual gps with a different name and I don't have any virtual gps' with that name. He sent me a video showing me this weird issue, I could try to share if that would be helpful. And now I just had another friend tell me the same exact thing happened to her - a mutual friend shared a virutal gps with both of us. I had no issues getting to it and seeing it, but she could not get to it.

A follow up, I just went to a recent "conversation" and clicked on the link, it took me to a completely different virtual gps than the one in the shared "conversation". Tried again with a different "conversation" and it took me to the previous conversation's link. Its like the links do not match up with the conversations? Went to another older "conversation" and it also took me to a completely different virtual gps than the one it should have been tied to.

Let me know how I can help solve this issue.

An additional side note but it may be related, when I'm in virtual gps and I switch to a different virtual gps, the virtual gps up on the bar across the top of the page does not update to the new virtual gps I'm sitting on unless I refresh the page. I'll try to attach a photo, but I think I had issues doing so last time.

Typo in image titles for 2 attributes

In user profile stats page, https://project-gc.com/Profile/ProfileStats , in the last attributes section, among the negative attributes in the first table row there are attributes for:

Not a long hike ... what is above and greater than 10km , but image HTML title writes <10km
Not a medium hike ... what is less than 10km , but image HTML title writes >10km

But title for the images in the ProfileStats page has angle brackets (signs < and > ) is the opposite logic.

I've corrected the issues with the numbers but this will not be updated until the translations are updated the next time. There's no set time for when this happens.

Translations are made by volunteers so if something is "half translate" that means the person/persons that have volunteered to translate have not yet done so. If it's a language you have good knowledge of you can volunteer to translate yourself. More info about that can be found here: https://project-gc.com/Home/FAQ#1352555043

Regarding the black number on "Finds by found date" that's an intended feature. The smallest number on the calendar is black while the others are white. This is to help you easily identify what days you need to work on to improve the calendar. The same feature is available on some of the other stats too, such as the D/T-matrix for example.

As it's now showing my guess would be that this was related to the data not having been fetched yet. Project-GC needs to know that the cache exists before it shows up so this will generally not be instant.

As far as I can see, four of your events lack Attended logs. Some because they haven't happend yet, others because they were cancelled. Either way, Project-GC only counts events that actually had participants.

There's a subtle different between these two tables. On the profile, you find "events by event date". With Needed found dates, you find events by found date. This means that whenever you have logged an event on the wrong date (which used to be possible, but can't be done now), there will be differences between these two tables.

Bug in profile stats page link

On the profile stats page, https://project-gc.com/Statistics/ProfileStats, there is a link stating "Permanent link to this profile." When I click the link, it takes me to https://project-gc.com/ProfileStats/Optimist+on+the+run which returns the error "This profile does not exist."

The URL should not have the + signs in it.

UPDATE: Found Issue: Not currently able to map unfound caches when looking at county maps

The issue was that "exclude unfound" was checked, which meant it wasn't showing any unfound caches. Don't remember checking that, but unchecking it fixed the issue.

No caches are showing up when I go to map unfound caches while looking in the "Map Counties" section. I'm a paid member and logged in.

This is because they have selected to opt out of being shown at Project-GC via the privacy settings at geocaching.com. This is not a bug, it's working as intended.

This will be fixed today, hopefully even released in 1-2 hours from now. When rewriting the whole Virtual GPS system we missed the polygon tool. From a file system perspective it's not a part of Project-GC, but written as a plugin for the map engine (Leaflet). Therefore we missed the fact that it used virtualgps-code, and we just didn't think about it. The single add/remove just happen to be 100% compatible, while the bulk add/remove isn't.

The complexity of a spherical earth. Probably not the exact same math formula used. Could very well be intentional to optimize the computing time. The important thing is that the geocaches shown won't change direction in the future, the beams are just a visual layer.

It is is very much related.

We will change our approach. Currently we have issues with many various alphabets. I have updated the code, but it most likely won't go live until next week. And after that we have 1-1,5 billion logs to recalculate the log length on, which will take weeks.

At least a solution is coming.

PS! Good find with the related topic. Though I actually had it back in my head myself already when I read "log length" and "Greek". For once I had a decent memory of things. :)

As of the rewriting of the Stats some effects are showing a strange behaviour on some challenge checkers.

For example: https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCAFDJQ/81866

It runs as good as before, but any icon at the start of a row seems to be min. 4 times the size it was before.

I can provide a screenshot of how the result of that particular checker was before.
Tried on different PCs with different browsers and different sizing of the browsers etc.

Edit : Another example where things are mixed up. https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8EY7F/45867 all icons seem normal except for the favorites

Edit 10.02.2026 : just checked the mentioned checkers again. Those with the attributes are fine now. The last added one with the favorite icons is still off.... and the icons behind the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges//101368 as well

Project-GC's translations are user-contributed at http://translate.project-gc.com/. For example, a German translation for "Finds by difficulty" is missing because it has not been contributed by any German-speaking user:

Map Compare with multiple people breaks when changing geocache filters?

I'm trying to do a map compare with 4 other people. I set up the top with the other geocacher names. Then I go to add the criteria (counties, types, sizes) and after I hit submit it has reset the people I'm comparing to and only keeps the first person added. I have to go back in and add the additional people again to get the compare to work as needed.

As I'm attempting to do this again to document this for this post, now its not working at all. Even when I don't change the geocaching criteria in the second section and I go add the geocachers back and hit submit, its removing everyone but the first person I added

The issue has, in theory, been fixed in our end of things. It was an subtle issue with the German translation which has now been corrected. It will become available on the website shortly. You will have to visit:

Beide diese Checker sind mit GCABDQ5 getagged, und dafür zeigt das Addon beide. Das ist korrekt. Einer von diesem Checkers sollte nicht so getagged sein, aber dass muss vom Tagger korrigiert werden. Du musst mit ihm sprechen.

Where on the site are you not seeing these finds? When I check your profile stats and map compare you have three finds in Colombia and you have three finds in Colombia on geocaching.com, so I can't find any discrepancy between the two sites.

I would suggest testing these things:

Clear cookies in you browser (https://support.apple.com/en-us/105082)
Did you click the link from an app? Try visiting it directly in your browser instead.
Did you click the link in the browser? Try visiting it from an app instead.
Do you have the same issue if you try a different device?

Testing like this would help you figure out were things are going wrong. As you've managed to write in the forums it seems like the issue should be with your phone and not with your account.

For some reason, the most northerly cache in Austria, according to the NESW/Oldest tool, is actually the multicache GCBF36R, with starting coordinates in Finland. I have no idea if the final is in Austria or not, but it seems like the country is incorrect in the cache listing.

Earlier this evening we were instructed by Geocaching HQ that we should revert the change made Tuesday morning (CET) to Project-GC Challenge Checkers. As such, we have once again made Challenge Checkers possible to execute irrespective of the ‘Geocaches found’ privacy setting.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while we navigated the complex situation in cooperation with Geocaching HQ.
