Suggestion to new statistics

I have a suggestion to a new statistics:

An overview of active caches in a region, placed by year and number of you have found of those.

It is already possible to have an overview by caches in a region or city and you can filter by active caches and a period when they were placed.

For example: you have a choicebox with country and region, and then the result is a table by year:

Year

Active caches

Found by user

2000

8

6

2001

19

12

2002

35

16

2003

48

22

...

...

...

2025

1105

805

The idea for this statistics is when a logged the oldest caches for a specific region. When i found all of them from 2000, i logged those from 2001,... so at the moment i have found all the caches in my region places between 2000-2010 and i want to log those from 2011 this year.

Feature request: please add filtering to list of Signed Challenges

With a lot of signed challenges it is difficult and time-consuming to go thru the list looking for cache size, DT, attributes etc. Is it possible to add filtering options to the page, eg. "Filter out/in all challenges requiring climbing gear".

Weekly Event Notifications Instead of Daily

Currently, event notification emails are sent once per day. For my use case, it would be sufficient to receive the notification email only once per week (for example, every Monday).

Since events have to be created at least 14 days in advance anyway, a daily notification feels unnecessary and could be reduced to a weekly summary.

Answered: How can I identify the specific geocaches that I need to complete the Jasmer Challenge

To complete the Jasmer challenge you need caches hidden a specific month, not a specific date. To find matching candidates for that, use https://project-gc.com/Tools/MapHiddenMonth

Answered: negate filter

If you use the VGPS-control inside the map you can add all caches that are on the map so I don't really understand what you need the filter for? Just don't use the list if there are more caches than in the list. Or add some filters to make multiple searches for what you're asking for. For example you can use a hidden date as a cut off, or make a couple of searches based on different cache types.

The problem with this badge, as I have pointed out before, is that it is based on an average value. This means that with a high number of finds, is it almost impossible to go up or down a level. As such, it becomes meaningless and therefore I would also support its removal.

Answered: Is it possible to automatically check challenges in a region or country?

No, there's no tool for what you're describing. The solution would be to change your home coordinates to whatever area you plan to travel too. However, you should check that the checkers hasn't been run already first. The auto-challenge-checkers run in the hundreds each month so you have likely covered a larger area than you think. There also was some recent work to increase the amount of auto-challenge-checkers run per user each day.

December 2nd is the hidden date that you only found six times.

With no additional filters, the tool correctly shows no additional needed hidden dates for you.

With the new pre/post-Filters you easily can add a repeat Filter.

Here is an example for your Account with 10 repeats and a country filter for denmark.

Of course you also can specify other countries, cache types...

Example

If that is not enough, you should precise your question and give an example Challenge.

Such top list used to exist. If I recall correctly it was removed for performance reasons. It might come back later this year if we manage to get around to do the things that are planned.

I believe the closest you can get is the FTF tab in your profile, where at the bottom you have the full FTF list. Having this raw data gives you a possibility to check things on your own, but not inside project-gc unfortunately.

Yes, Project-GC is not coherent in regard of those special names for Events every 5 years:

On the events folder all are counted. although CCE are not counted as such but as "Lost and Found", a type of event I've never done. Block-Parties are counted as BP.

On the badge pages it's completely different:

CCE are counted as ordinary events for the badge

BP are not counted at all as events, neither ordinary nor, as they should, as Mega

Both event types give an add-on for the Geocacher badge, if you visit one

Only CCE gives an add-on for the Event Host badge, if you host one, BP doesn't

This topic has com up several times here, but nobody cared about this inconsistencies.

Live Map functionality request: select area and save to Virtual GPS

I know that in some of the map tools (like map of challenge caches) there is the "area selection tool" as well as "save to VGPS button" However, for Live map, for some reason, these are missing. Would it be possible to get those to Live map as well?

If it is of any use, I often travel to remote places and it'd help to gather all the caches of particular area (not necessarily full country/region but user selected area) via VGPS to GPX to c:geo which of course can also be done by other means, but this just could be the most convenient I think.

Answered: FTF on events

The beauty of geocaching lies in its diversity. Some people play for points, some for difficulty, others for statistics and "coloring the map". Some people show up to a CITO event for five minutes and "claim" an "attended", while others won’t log "attended" unless they get their hands dirty. We keep two FTF lists: one for "pure" FTFs, and the other includes event FTFs as well. And we don’t count every event FTF there either. The first event FTF we encountered was awarded to the person who could remember the most decimal places of pi on Pi Day. Now that’s something worthy of a reward! "Giving" an FTF to everyone who brings a trackable item to an event dedicated to trackables? That’s where it comes down to personal conscience.

Profile/need maintenance? Is it possible to add a parameter to select the number of DNF before triggering

Would be great to add to the page Profile/need maintenance a parameter to select the minimum number of DNF to enter the list. For the moment ass soon there is one (1) 'need maintenance' it enter the list, i agree, but ass soon there is one (1) 'dnf' it is also included in the list. Would be great to have a parameter to select how many DNF before being counted for list. In my search for cache thet need maintenance i generally do not react before there is 3 consecutive dnf on the cache. Would be great also to have the same filter capabilities than in any other filter to select the type of cache as the tradi may require 3 dnf before being inspected, but for a multi, for the satisfaction of searcher, it could be reduced to 1 dnf before having a look.

As hider, what is your opinion. As developper, would it be so difficult to add this parameter? Have a great day all!

Answered: suggestion of the extreme area system

I want to second the notion that this addition is amazing.

I've noticed curious behavior with this feature.
You can use the 'map NEWS/Oldest' tool and you'll get different results from the 'Extremes by area' segment on profile stats.

Take Colorado for example: the 'map NEWS/Oldest' tool gives GCA52 geocache as the most east and the most south. This bad boy has posted coordinates of 00° 00.000 000° 00.000 in the ocean and lists itself as being in Colorado. It's archived now but I'm guessing it was a puzzle cache ending in Colorado that was made before the 2 mile rule.

Jump over to the 'Extremes by area' feature and GC5164 Where the wild things are (locationless) (made as an unknown cache) is the most east and the most south. Similarly this chap has posted coordinates out in the ocean at N 00° 00.007 W 010° 00.008 and lists itself as being in Colorado. This one isn't archived but is locked.

These are strange, rare and old type caches from the wild west days and I'm guessing they'll make coding a real headache. It seems like either their hidden final coordinates are being used to determine location, or the code is looking at what state the cache lists itself as being set in.

Whatever happens, this new feature is amazing and innovative. I hope my observations help the grand project.

Cheers,

CheekyBrit

Extremes by area enhancement request

I love the new Finds > Extremes table but I have a problem. I own the cache with the most favourites so cannot qualify for this.

Could we have the table show not only most extreme caches found, but also if they are owned. Owned caches are, of course, not finds, so should be marked in with a different colour, perhaps grey.

Alternatively, perhaps show the extreme caches of cache owners that are not me. In other words I might see the second most favourited cache. This would give different result for different people, so is not preferred.

And now Project-GC has given me more geocaching objectives... As if I didn't have enough already!
