Project-GC Edited logs notifier - incorrect information about log type

Hello,

I think that this feature do not capture original log type correctly. I'm using it for a long time, but I don't remember if I've ever seen indication of changed type of log - it always says "Found it Found it" or "Write note Write note", even when player has changed the type of his log.

This is example, where I know 100% that player has changed Found it to Write note, because I asked him to do so. Project-GC is notifying me about Write note to Write note. Unfortunately, it seems to me that most important part of this feature does not work.

Can anyone verify and confirm, please? Is it possible to fix it?

Thank you.

Link to example log: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?code=GL1337NDZ

Edited logs notifier API problem?

Hello, for the last two weeks I've been receiving edited logs in a weird format. There is always §OPTOUT and some numbers instead of nickname and phrase "Content unavailable. This user has opted-out of sharing certain information with API Authorized Developers.". When I look at the profile, sometimes the users are inactive for some years and it doesn't seem they changed their logs ever.

Is it possible that there is some bug in this function?

Thank you!

Batch trackable discovery says "Failed to log trackable. Denied by the Geocaching LIVE api." What is the problem?

Is it just because of the long queue? I refreshed the authentification for the API, but didn´t help.

Missing cache information (problem in Geocaching Live API?)

Hi,

There is a cache (https://coord.info/GC6Q7C8) that "doesn't exist" in Project-GC. It isn't included in the stats and it doesn't even show up on the live map here. Using self-support and refreshing the cache information does not work. This problem is also visible on a Finnish Geocaching website Geocache.fi. The admin of that site commented that the Geocaching Live API doesn't give any information when queried about this particular cache. One would assume the problem is same here.

This is particularly annoying as the problem persists and as this cache was my only find on 9th of December, the stats now indicate that my streak ended on that day, it was an FTF, there are 0 finds on 9th of Dec, my total find count is down by 1 etc.

The cache itself is fine when accessed from Geocaching.com itself and the stats are displayed correctly there.

Could you please investigate this issue further?

BR, TupeJaPete

Does a name change on geocaching.com affect project-gc membership ?

I am not familiar with how the Geocacing Live API works. I am aware that they use OAuth to authenticate access to their data, and that it is through these auth tokens that project-gc is able to for instance log trackables discovered in my name. It is not clear, however, how an account is identified.

When a person changes a profile name on geocaching.com, he or she does so within their own system. It it thus a trivial matter to link old usernames to new (if they so choose). Depending on how the API is, a user name change may be nontrivial to implement for API users such as project-gc.

Since project-gc operate with user-specific settings (and indeed paid membership) that is tied in with the geocaching.com user system, does these settings (and any paid membership) go on to the new account on name change on geocaching.com ?

My question asked in another way: Does the API provide (and does project-gc use) an unchanging UID for API users that will always refer to a specific geocaching.com user (regardless of username), or does it only use username (which can change) ?

TB Discover tool: empty log messages when using special Unicode characters

I’ve just attempted to discover a couple of TBs with the tool, and this time, it worked successfully but with an empty log message on each. Editing it on the GS website made it work. No idea if this is a generic bug or one dependent on the log message, and within PGC or the GS API.

The log message I used was:

… heh, turns out it disappears from here. Also, it appears to have been converted into UTF-16 surrogates on the GS website in the TB log (example: http://coord.info/TB24KYN), but the individual log (http://coord.info/TLG5NDTM) and the same U-0001F3B2 character on the cache log page are fine.

The “Toggle log text” button in the TB Discover tool history also shows nothing, so this appears to be a bug in PGC with (my educated guess) Unicode codepoints from the astral planes.

TB discover tool errors out with “no token”

I just tried to discover (luckily only 3) TBs through the tool, but it failed them all with “no token”. Maybe something with the Groundspeak API is hicupping again?

public API to search for geocaches

Another from more or less stupid ideas about "what to do if everything will be done". Having website with all these stuff is just great, but to have public API, accessible from mobile application (I don't think you plan to create whole new mobile application, or?) to search for caches around with some advanced use cases that are not provided by geoching website or their "API".

Use case I have in my mind:

Search from coordinates similar to "Map Compare" to return list of caches around that neither of group or some of group didn't find. This can be handy to have when you are caching with friends and without preparation and you don't want to download every cache, check it for logs or downloading caches for all the people and doing some aggregation on client side.

I don't think this would be too much work, because you have all the sql queries, but the only thing missing is to define API and expose it. I can think about some JSON with list of caches with additional flags who found it if required.

Field Notes: How? When? Details? Format of records

I just heard from the "field notes" utilities and wanted to get more information on that. May be there is a special blog for that? I want to use it as foreseen but not with a GPSr as described: where can I get detailed format information to generate "my own field notes" for upload?
