I have one event in progress (held tomorrow, 28 April) which might allow for one error.

Why is there a 4-5 event discrepancy between PGC and GC? Is there a bug in PGC's event counting?

discrepancy in profile stats and needed found date tool

I appear to have a discrepancy between the profile statistics "Attended events by event date" and the Needed found dates tool. For May 30th, the profile statistics show that I NEED a regular event on that day when I filter for regular events. The Needed found dates tool shows that i DO NOT NEED a regular event on that day. I have manually reviewed a fresh my find PQ from GCHQ using GSAK and I do not have a regular event attended on May 30th.

On the profile stats page, https://project-gc.com/Statistics/ProfileStats, there is a link stating "Permanent link to this profile." When I click the link, it takes me to https://project-gc.com/ProfileStats/Optimist+on+the+run which returns the error "This profile does not exist."

The URL should not have the + signs in it.

Virtual GPS Map issue? Using the selection tool to select caches, it looks like it removes caches but it is not

I'm in the virtual GPS map view. I want to select multiple geocaches to remove from my virtual GPS. I circle the caches with the tool, click remove and it looks like it removes them viewing the map but the cache count on the Virtual GPS stays the same. And when I refresh the map they are still in the virtual GPS map and the Virtual GPS.

I have screen shots, I'm not sure how to atttach them. It rejected me copying/pasting them here.

I can individually click each cache and choose to remove, that is working correctly. Its just the selecting tool that is not working.

Extremes by category - new table

The new table for extremes is fun and i am glade that it's there, but it's the only one on the site i know about, that have green background behind zeros (not blank). know it is really minor thing but ... is there any better option to let you know?

Challenge checkers - new display kind of tooo large?

As of the rewriting of the Stats some effects are showing a strange behaviour on some challenge checkers.

For example: https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCAFDJQ/81866

It runs as good as before, but any icon at the start of a row seems to be min. 4 times the size it was before.

I can provide a screenshot of how the result of that particular checker was before.
Tried on different PCs with different browsers and different sizing of the browsers etc.

Edit : Another example where things are mixed up. https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8EY7F/45867 all icons seem normal except for the favorites

Edit 10.02.2026 : just checked the mentioned checkers again. Those with the attributes are fine now. The last added one with the favorite icons is still off.... and the icons behind the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges//101368 as well

Map Compare with multiple people breaks when changing geocache filters?

I'm trying to do a map compare with 4 other people. I set up the top with the other geocacher names. Then I go to add the criteria (counties, types, sizes) and after I hit submit it has reset the people I'm comparing to and only keeps the first person added. I have to go back in and add the additional people again to get the compare to work as needed.

As I'm attempting to do this again to document this for this post, now its not working at all. Even when I don't change the geocaching criteria in the second section and I go add the geocachers back and hit submit, its removing everyone but the first person I added

New Cache notifier: County selecteion not showing counties if region selected

When creating a new cache notifier, the counties wont show if a region is selected. They do get loaded, but are not shown in the dropdown.

If no region is selected the counties are shown and selectable.

Event notifiers failing with Error Code 3

Hi, I am trying to create a new event notifier (for the entire Isle of Man), but I get an "Save failed, redirecting you back in 3 seconds" error message (sometimes but not always with an Error Code of 3).

I have tried this on different devices (Windows desktop, Apple desktop, and Android phone) and different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, and Safari) with the same result. The form is of course quite simple so I am pretty sure I am filling it out correctly (and I have another notifier for events in another entire country that works fine). In total I have 4 other notifiers, and I assume that a 5th one does not cross an unstated limit.

BUG: Map Compare not considering selected "show" elements

Having the Map-Compare-Feature use the multi-select in the show-section.

Select "found by neither play" and "found by at least one player" will also show the "Found by both players" on the map, even it is not selected.

I have a checker, https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC55AHK/920, that checks for cache owners that are members of a list stored within the checker - charter members. However it looks like it does not correctly process caches that are adopted.

For example, CherokeeThree has found https://coord.info/GCA3FC which was owned by Peter but is now owned by wreckdiver. When the checker is run for CherokeeThree it shows he has not found any of wreckdiver's caches.

The checker is correctly set to use the owner_id (as opposed to using placed_by) and so should be picking up wreckdiver as the owner.

Could you take a look please?

ich habe in meiner Profilstatistik einige Module deaktiviert. Aber ich habe jetzt zum wiederholten Male festgestellt, das die Deaktivierung nicht dauerhaft ist.

Warum, wieso und wann deaktivierte Module wieder aktiviert werden kann ich nicht sagen. Das habe ich bislang immer nur durch Zufall festgestellt. Ich weiß nur eines: Ich war es jedenfalls nicht.

ich habe einen Bug in der Profilstatistik entdeckt.

Wird ein Reiter deaktiviert, bleiben die Moduleinstellungen erhalten.

Aktiviert man jedoch einen Reiter, werden alle darin enthaltenen Module aktiviert und nicht nur die Module, die während der Deaktivierung des Reiters die Module die als aktiviert/deaktiviert markiert wurden.

Challenge missing

I Was looking for a Challenge in my noted list and its missing.

I Double checked if somehow my Log entry is gone too, but its still there.

Glitch in numerous challenge checkers due to replacement of US Connecticut's 8 historic counties with 9 new "COGs"

Hi, PCG has recently worked on (and perhaps completed?) the shift from 8 historic counties in Connecticut to 9 "councils of government" - see thread. Here is a helpful map that shows the boundaries of both the old counties and new COGs. Both the Map County tool and some challenge checkers have caught up with the change, prominently including the Connecticut County Challenge Cache (which, amusingly, a couple of years ago I qualified for and claimed with 8 counties, but now would not qualify because none of my CT finds happen to fall into the new 9th COG).

That CT county challenge checker correctly shows that I have a find in the "Capitol Region COG" (which encompasses all of the old "Hartford County," including the City of Hartford, the capitol of CT). It lists my find of GC1D8DR, which is in the old Hartford County as well as the new Capitol Region COG. I also have a number of other finds in that county/COG, such as GC8W248.

But, many (perhaps all?) of the US "State Capitol Challenge" checkers, using different scripts and tagging, have not caught up. For example, GC7W7ZZ checker, GC9MBK7 checker, and GC7KRYF checker all omit my find in Hartford County/Capitol Region COG. I have looked at a few other county-based challenges, and for example "finds in 100 counties" type of challenges seem to include the new COGs.

My guess is that those checkers are hard coded/tagged to look for a find in "Hartford County," but that county no longer exists in the Project-GC system. I could flag this glitch to each of those checkers, but there are at least 20 state capital/capitol-based challenges in the US (just based on looking at the titles of the challenges). So I am hoping there is a more systematic way to fix this problem.

Infinite karma with adopted caches

So I started geocaching in 2018, and after a few years I adopted 3 caches that were hidden before I started playing (and now are archived btw). Everything is fine, except for the caching karma graph on my profile stats - hides page. Since it counts that before 2018 I had 3 caches hidden and 0 found, it plots my karma (#hides/#finds) at the beginning as potentially infinite (think it's mathematically incorrect too). Consequently, the rest of the line gets flattened towards zero, no matter how high karma could be.

Anyone has any idea how to fix that?

Challenge Checker for GC3JMGC broken

The first of the three conditions - best caching day needs more than 222 finds - does not work for me (huberteff), see output below. Issue with HTML generation of checkers without a GC code set

This is a fairly niche bug that most users will likely never encounter.

When a checker is created without a GC code set, it defaults to a displayed GC code of "?". However, this causes problems for the HTML link generation, since the format for a Challenge Checker link is project-gc.com/Challenges/{gc_code}/{tag_id}: the {gc_code} becomes "?", meaning that the URL becomes project-gc.com/Challenges/?/12345 and thus the tag ID gets interpreted as if it were a GET/query parameter. This is undesirable.

Demo/Steps for Reproduction

(1) Create a checker with no associated GC#. Locate it on the "My scripts and tags" page, or on the associated script's tags.

(2) Click the "Link" button to generate HTML.

(3) Notice that the generated HTML, as well as the Example link on the left, contain a "?" in the URL. This causes the URL to be interpreted as if it contained GET/query parameters.

Reason to Fix

Currently, in order to get from the "My scripts and tags" page to a particular checker's webpage, one needs to:

(1) Click the "Edit" button to open the script associated with the tag.

(2) Scroll and/or Control-F to locate the tag.

(3) Click the "Use checker" button to open the checker's page.

This is far too many clicks/scrolling for me. So, instead, when I need to open a checker page, I simply use the "Link" button to generate HTML, and then click one of the links that generates on the left.

Normally, the checker has a GC code set, so this takes me right to the checker page. But (as above) if the checker has no GC code, then it becomes "?" and messes up the URL. So then I need to go manually fix it to get to the checker page.

This was starting to get somewhat annoying, so I am now formally filing this report...

Bugs following recent changes to the division of counties in Québec (Canada)

We have 101 counties in Québec and this has not changed for several years.

But recently, changes have been made to the division of the counties of Québec on the Project-GC database.

Three counties of Québec were split in two, which means that we end up with six counties instead of three, which is an error in relation to the reality.

The three affected counties before the changes:
- Brome-Missisquoi
- La Haute-Yamaska
- Québec

The three (now six) affected counties after the changes:
- Brome-Missisquoi
- Brome-Missisquoi (Québec)
- La Haute-Yamaska
- La Haute-Yamaska (Québec)
- Québec
- Québec (Québec)

Consequently, the results of Challenge Checkers using Québec counties are inconsistent with reality.

Example for me: I have found 17 caches in "Brome-Missisquoi" county.

But following recent changes on the database, I end up with:
- 9 caches found in "Brome-Missisquoi" county;
- 8 caches found in "Brome-Missisquoi (Québec)" county.

Very frustrating for geocachers who were qualified for certain challenges but no longer are because of this erroneous division in the database.

Even Project-GC stats by county are wrong following these recent changes on the database. Example for Belougas who has found at least one cache in the 101 counties of Québec: Project-GC thinks Belougas has found at least one cache in 104 counties of Québec on 101 counties of Québec... :

Crimea - where it belongs

Hi, I was going through some old stats and noticed that on your maps, Crimea is not marked as part of Ukraine; why? Sure, it has been occupied since 2014, yet even geocaching.com mark it as part of Ukraine (click any geocaches in the area, and it shows Ukraine).

Bug - Map Compare Filters Sticking

I have noticed in map compare several of the filters will remain even after they are removed from a search. Specifically custom filters, show disabled/archived, and possibly others. The filters will not show as visible on the map compare page but when you hit "filter" to display results, they will show up in the search.

Then when you navigate back to the previous page, they will be visible on the map compare page. Sometimes you have to go back and forth 2-3 times between pages before the filters are gone.

It would seem that many of the map layers of LiveMap are currently unavailable?

This bug report concerns the following layers:

OpenStreetMap German style
Hydda full
All Esri layers
All Eniro layers

From my browser debugger, the problem seems to be that no request is even dispatched to the tile servers?

No immediate errors are displayed in the JavaScript console when selecting a new layer.

This seems to only afffect the LiveMap page - not pages such as MapCompare.

It is nice to be ahead of the times, but unfortunately this is currently an error in the map display of the district map of Germany. If you display the map of Germany (total), Holland and Belgium are shown in water colour. Only the county borders are still visible. This error occurs both in the small map and in the enlargement, but not when the districts of individually selected federal states are displayed.

missing / wrong lake boundaries in maps

It seems that during one of the last map updates a small error has crept in. In the map of Switzerland, only the border is visible for part of Lake Zurich, but the blue fill has been lost .
I am also surprised that some partly large lakes in Switzerland are not shown. What is the selection criterion for the lake areas, their size or a special OSM type? Compared to Poland, where some small lakes are visualized, several important lakes are missing in Switzerland.

Elevation Issue for sea level Earthcache & Incorrect BadgeGen badge award

There is an Earthcache that is at sea level - you have to be on a ferry boat to do the earthcache. I found the following in the FAQ:

I found a cache with a faulty elevation
Sadly there are a lot of geocaches with these issues. The elevation data does not come from Geocaching.com since it doesn't have that data. We have therefore built our own SRTM-service for the purpose, it currently serves SRTM v3.0. As a fallback for the areas this doesn't cover, we use to OpenElevation (OpenStreetMap) and the Google Elevation API.
If you find that a value in Project-GC isn't correct. Please read below how our elevation data works, and also check other services like for example Geonames. If you find out that other services has about the same fault tolerance, then there is nothing to do.
We do not do manual changes in the data. But if you find an entry that seems to be off by a lot more than in other services, feel free to report it so that we can investigate.

The Earthcache in question is Fraser River Plume. I have checked on Geonames, and as the location is in the ocean, it returns -32768. Per their documentation for the SRTM3 API request:

ocean areas have been masked as "no data" and have been assigned a value of -32768

I think Project GC should use a value of ZERO for all locations that return -32768 as the elevation from the geonames API.

Everyone who has logged this Earthcache has been awarded (in error) the "Diamond Low Altitude Cacher" badge on the BadgeGen page in Profile Stats.

buttons of prefectures of Japan are missing?

In the Japan section, I have no way to view the detailed maps for each prefecture. However, the borders of the individual prefectures are marked on the national map.

First of all let me say thanks for the new maps, I really like the new design!

I think I found some minor problems:

1. When selecting one region of a county, the total number of counties is displayed under the map. For example: Looking at the map for Germany - Counties, the text 'x of 401 counties logged' is displayed correct. Then switching to the county 'Niedersachsen' the text still says 'x of 401 counties logged', but there are just 45 counties for Niedersachsen.

2. Looking at the county map for 'Niedersachsen' I wonderd about a white spot to the north-east. That should be 'Hamburg' and does not belong to 'Niedersachsen'.

new maps with a map extent near dateline?

The new maps look great, however for some countries that are close to the dateline the MapExtent is a bit unfortunate. For example, New Zealand: I see almost nothing of NZ, but have large parts of South America in the view. Would it be possible to fix this optical issue?

static html download - lab caches are missing in some statistics

As of today 2021-04-16 the static export is missing the lab caches in some statistics, e.g. "Tab Finds / Most cache types in a day:" or "Tab Milestones / First cache by cache type".

The tab LabCaches seems to be okay though.

Caches Per Area bug when continent selected?

Hello,

When i used "Caches per Area" tool with a continent selected in the "Cache location" filter, I think it is supposed to show total caches in all countries in the continent, but it displays total caches in all regions in the selected continent instead.

Example, selected Europe:
#1 - Bayern - 60 492
#2 - Nordrhein-Westfalen - 56 962
#3 - Baden-Württemberg - 54 543
#4 - Niedersachsen - 53 884
and so on.

elevation model of Greenland?

It seems that something went wrong with the elevation model of Greenland. Since a few days I have some caches of Greenland with anormal elevation values (like GC1Y8EH or GC2AGQQ or GC20EV9 - all in the same area of middle west Greenland)

Bug in profile stats > cumulative finds by month

See attached screen capture - the bottom of the cumulative finds by month chart is a jumble of numbers. I don't see this elsewhere, so this may be an isolated bug.

Saw this using Windows 10, on Google Chrome Version 86.0.4240.75 (Official Build) (64-bit). Also spotted using Microsoft Edge Version 86.0.622.43 (Official build) (64-bit).

edit: despite no answer, the error has been resolved, so I'm closing the question.

Bug in The odd-sized cacher badge?

According to The Odd-sized cacher badge explanation it is awarded for logging "other" and "not chosen" sized caches. Our badge tells us that we have logged 1183 such caches but when we filter our "found caches size other" on geocaching.com we get the result 1410 (we also have found a number of not chosen size but can't easily find out how many). So either there seems to be a bug in the badge, or the explanation is not complete when it comes to how the number of odd-sized caches is calculated.

What happened to the views tally that used to be shown in upper right of each question?

Recently, the Views totals located in the upper right of each question has dropped away from this link https://project-gc.com/qa/ and is no longer tallying properly when drilling down into a question. Questions that have been on the Q&A for a few days show only 1 View when I know that is impossible from previous observation. I am assuming that something got messed up in the programming from the most recent update or it is now a permanent change. Please let us know.

User not found Even though the User exists

I am looking for the statistics and trying to use the map compare feature on an existing Username but project-gc.com doesn’t seem to find the User. Is there a way of telling the system to check for that User again? The user had a different name and changed that, maybe project-gc.com didn’t get that and sees no reason to look for that User.

Good morning,

May I request a similar function for showing a last position of Trackables on the map - something like Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Geocaching for showing all owned TB of nickname on the map with pins. For example: I own 781 pcs of TB and I want to show it on the World map like a pins where are TBs at this time .Only a last position - no routes or points of travel.

If I download all KML files of every TB, than it contains about 130MB and no viewer like Google maps or Google Earth can show me a results. It takes a long time and I have to edit every TB to show only last position and disable view of travel road.

Can you design this feature for geocachers, please ?.

Typo in ProfileStats?

When I view the Challenges tab on my Profile Stats page I see a typo in the "Challenges signed (but not yet logged as found)" section. I think the word "reuquirement" should be replaced with "requirement".

Top Found Procent not calculated in the right way

It seems some people still can find more than 100 procent of the caches in a certain area regarding to the "Top Found Procent" tool.

E.g. In County X are 140 caches. Cacher Y has found 136 of them, 4 aren't found by cacher Y, cacher Y has 9 caches in this county of which 8 are logged by the cacher Y. Regarding to the Top Found Procent tool this cacher has found 103.57 procent of the caches in County X.

The way it is calculated:

136 founds + 9 own caches = 145 caches
145 caches / 140 caches = 103,57 procent

The way it should be calcultated:

136 founds + ( 9 own caches -8 caches that are logged by the CO itself) = 137 caches
137 caches / 140 caches = 97,86 procent

Or:

140 caches - 3 unfound caches that not belong to this cacher = 137 caches
137 caches / 140 caches = 97,86 procent

I don't take a position on whether it was neat to log your own caches in the past or not, but it seems to me you are physically not able to find more than 100 percent of the caches in a given area.

Livemap Uncaught TypeError

My browser is Google Chrome.

When loading the livemap for the first time, I get the error "jquery.min.js?v=1593505654:4 POST https://project-gc.com/ajax/livemap.php 500"

If I visit the livemap and try to change anything (e.g. only Virtual caches), I get this errror:

There seems to be a problem with both Chrome and Mozilla.

When clicking "Private Messages" I get "Question2Answer fatal error"

I navigated arround some within the Community Support area. In the support summary of my profile there is "Private Messages" if clicking on it comes immediatedly this error message:

Adventure Lab finds not appearing in “needed found dates” tool

My adventure lab finds are correctly appearing in my geocaching.com stats and ProjectGC stats (finds by found date) but do not appear in the “Needed Found dates” tool.

Examples from my stats are the 8th Feb and 28th Feb. The 8th Feb is correctly shown as 14 finds in my geocaching.com stats but incorrectly shown as 9 finds in the Needed Found Dates tool.

The 28th Feb is also incorrect. My finds =12 but are incorrectly shown in Needed Found Dates as 7.

I found other references to issues with adventure lab dates due to the timing of logs, but my issue is that the information is correct at source (geocaching.com stats) and also in one Project GC stat (finds by found date) but wrong in another ProjectGC stat (Needed Found Dates).
