Is it possible to automatically check challenges in a region or country?

I have read the procedure Project-GC uses to auto check the challenges nearby your home address in this topic: Auto-challenge-checkers

Now am I planning a trip to Sweden and I was wondering if it possible to let project-GC check if you fulfill challenges in a particular region? It is mentioned as a future topic, but I understand it is hard to complete all wishes at the same time to this site.

Challenge owner dashboard

Hi,

I thought he PGC browser plugin would warn me when someone logged one of my challenges and I visited the page.

Another cacher warned me that someone who did not fullfill the requirements to log my challenges did log them.

Is there a easy way like with the cache owner dashboard on GC.com to get a overview of challenge caches I own and people who might not fullfill the requirements?

Is a documentation necessary?

About challenge chaches

From the rules:

Cachers may sign a challenge cache's physical log at any time. However, the challenge cache may be logged as found online only after the log is signed and the challenge tasks have been met and documented.
For cache pages published after April 21, 2015 with a challenge checker, the owner can confirm the finder's qualification with the checker when the cache is logged as found. No further documentation is required from the finder.

According to this, I don't need to supply a documentation that I have met the requirements (if the cache has been published after the above mentioned date). However, almost all the "younger" challenge caches I have seen state in their listings that I have to supply a proof (screenshot or copied text from the checker).

So, do I have to supply a proof/documentation?

Is there a trick to searching for challenge checkers? My searches rarely turn up anything useful and frequently the list of results does not include the term or terms for which I was searching.

For example, if I search for "CITO", the first three results have CITO in the name, the rest do not. I know there are more checkers than that with CITo in the title. The checker "31 days of CITO challenge" is not one of the results, even though a checker by that name exists. I feel like either I am missing something or the search is wonky.

Is it possible to list all finds of a specific weekday (e.g. Sunday)?

And I think of hiding a challenge cache… Any given Sunday… objective is 31 finds on 31 different Sundays… e.g. Sunday the 1st, Sunday the 2nd…. Until Sunday the 31st…

How is it possible to create a checker for this? Or is there a checker, that can be copied/modified?

Challenge cache not validating

I posted a find on a challenge cache GC9VYAV - 'Straya' #14 - A Challenging Challenge (Australia) on 2nd January 2024.

It would be the challenge cache that qualifies me for the challenge but doesn't validate and doesn't appear in the list of challenge caches.

I know there was a problem with challenge caches so I've waited a few days before posting this.

This challenge cache is part of a series and others that I've qualified for and logged appear in the list.

Are there any alternatives to searching for challenge checkers besides the search bar on the challenge checker page? I am putting together a series of challenges and was hoping to not have to create a bunch of unique checkers. I was wondering if there is a catalog somewhere that lists all the checkers?

Using Map of challenge caches with mobile?

Does anyone know is there anyway to use "Map of challenge caches" with a mobile phone (or tablet)? Of course, the map itself can be loaded, but selecting a set of caches (or all caches) from map and getting them to virtual GPS seems impossible as I can't figure a way to "draw" the line around the caches (ie. mouse click and drag).

When (for a challenge) I have to find at least N caches hidden on every day of year (regardless of year) and a specific day is still missing, I need to know, which caches have been hidden on that day (regardless of year).
How can I identify them online (e.g. using project-gc) and show them in the map?

I cannot do this offline (in GSAK), because I cannot load get so many caches (about 55.000 here in Austria) from geocaching.com into GSAK.

If project-gc does not contain such a function, is there a chance, that it will get it?

I have qualified for (and found) the one for 200 dates. I am working on the ones for 250 and 300 dates. When I have filled 350 calendar dates with mystery caches, I would like to place such a challenge cache. Is there a way to search based on tag values? Once I find such a checker then I can clone it once I qualify.

custom filter for finding cachers found specific list of counties

I'm looking for a way to find cachers who meet criteria for certain to-be challenge where the criteria is having found specific set of counties (across few countries).

For this I was first planning to use existing statistics tools (top county finders) and custom filters (custom filter with those counties only) as a help, but stumbled upon the following issues:

Top county finders stat does not allow adding a custom filter at all. I guess this is as it is and there are no ways around it?

The custom filter itself seem very limited - ie. I don't seem to find a way to create a single custom filter that would accept a predefined list of (16) counties from few (6) different countries. I guess there is no way to create a custom filter like that which would accept 16 counties from few different countries as criteria for finds?

Also, I've created a challenge checker for the particular challenge, and run it against few nicks individually but that seems like very slow approach on trying to identify the minimum 10 cachers meeting the criteria.

Are disabled challenge checker tags for unpublished caches automatically re-enabled once the name is populated?

I got challenge checker tagging permissions a while back and just used them for the first time to tag checkers for a couple of challenge caches I am publishing. One of the tags on an unpublished cache was set to disabled, which I assume is because the name is not populated yet. Once the cache is published and the name is populated, is the tag automatically re-enabled? I have verified that the tag works as expected. The script is “Check number of finds” and the GC code is GCA0KM0. Thank you for your help.

I have logged a bunch of challenges, but not all do have a checker result on the "Challenges" tab, i.e. there is neither a green nor a red button on the right. Instead, there is no result shown at all. Manually running the checker, which IS linked on the cache page, does get a proper result.
I have tried updating one/all caches using the Self Service, but apparently that doesn't have an influence on the Challenges list.

So, how do I ask one/all checkers to be re-run and updated in the Challenges tab?

Tools/Map of challenge caches doesn't seem to work properly

When I select Country & Region, Exclude Archived & Not fullfilled, and Show all, I used to get a map showing all the challenges I fullfilled. Now it seems as if only those with a personal cache note show up on the map which means that I miss information about quite a few.

What is the best/correct way to create challenges with checkers?

Should I first ask the reviewers if a challenge is allowed to begin with
Or is it better to check here if it's possible to program a a checker for the challenge?

Because both the project-gc documentation as well as the geocaching.com documentation don't mention what the best order to do this in is.

Needed found dates tool for loops does not include lab-caches (which statistics at geocaching (.) com does) is there a reason? If not, can this be changed to include lab-caches?

This mean a challenge needing for example 10 finds on each day can not be fulfilled with lab-caches using a Project GC checker (which is required on all challenges). It would be fulfilled according to statistics at geocaching (.) com, but that statistics would be “overruled” by the Project GC checker.

It would be handy if there was a feature (perhaps a premium/paying feature), that you can specify a challenge checker and specify a set of coordinates and the feature would return a list of the nearest 10 geocachers that meet the requirements. Or, maybe list up to 20 in ascending distance order, so that one could choose among the list for other criteria. This would be useful if a geocacher would like to hide a duplicate to that challenge in their area (at the given coords) and needs to provide the reviewer with a list of 10 area geocachers that qualify. I know you can check individual geocachers names for each checker, but for more challenging challenges, you might have to check dozens to even hundreds of likely geocachers and might not remember to check a few that do qualify. I know Project-GC is constantly checking all premium/paying members to see if they qualify for challenges, so I assume getting a list of those premium members that had qualified for a challenge would not be a big processing hog. I do not know if it also checks the non-premium members automatically (and just not allow them to know), or if this process would need to do a check for each non-premium members on the fly. If the later, that would be a good reason to make this feature a paying member feature.

As the owner of several challenge caches, I find it tedious to verify the qualifications of people who claim finds. Sometimes they link to the Project-GC checkers, sometimes they don't. Even if they do, it's just text that they write in the log and could easily be faked (haven't seen this done yet, but it's possible).

It would be really nice if there was a tool on Project-GC that would show the challenge checker status for every user who has logged a find on my challenge caches and call specific attention to any logged finds that fail the challenge checker.

The user experience might be like this...

User loads the tool. Tool shows a list of all the user's owned challenge caches with a single-icon indicator showing the status of all the finds for each cache (green = all logged finds are valid qualifications, red = one or more of the finds are for users who do not qualify for the challenge). User clicks on one of the listed challenges. Tool shows a list of all users who have logged a find on that cache and an icon that shows their qualification status (green = challenge checker passes for that user on that challenge cache, red = challenge checker fails for that user on that challenge cache). The icon is a link to the challenge checker prefilled with the selected user. The list also links to each user's Geocaching profiles as well as the individual logs.

This could probably be a Project-GC premium member only feature.

This would let me as a challenge cache owner easily see at a glance if all finds are properly qualified or if there are any that I need to look into and perhaps contact the user and/or delete logs.

A related feature would be similar to the email notifications for FPs and log images. But this one would be a notification for any logged finds on your challenge caches for which the user does not qualify for the challenge.

Of course all of the above would only be possible for challenge caches for which a checker exists.

On the Challenge tab of the personal statistics is a Fizzy D/T Grid. Is there a published challenge for that?

Hi all,

the cache GC33E4C causes problems.

It does not have a challenge checker. It is impossible for a user to prove that he/she meets the requirements. The owner deletes logs without being able to prove that the user does not meet the requirements.

Although the behavior of the ownver violates the rules and the rules of good conduct and this should be addresses by reviewers/groundspeark, i'd prefer to see a checker for this cache. Otherwise a need archive is probably the best solution.

Would it be possible to write such a checker? I have not found another challenge cache with similar enough requirements in order to clone it.

I can write the checker but there is no longer access to the sand box.

So in the past, I wrote some checkers for caches that did not have challenge in the name and got the dreaded:

The following tags has been disabled because they seem to reference geocaches that does not look like challenge caches.

Have all the caches that someone wrote a checker for but rejected been entered into the exception system as needing voting? If someone wrote a checker then it likely is a challenge.

Also can we send the tagger's a message to enable their checkers when they pass muster?

When one loads the Challenge search there is a long list of checkers presented.As a tagger and scripter, it is a great interface. As a challenge cacher, it seems as more information could make it more useful.

It might be nice if image of the checker result with the red x or green check would help.

My quick thought it to tuck the checker graphic in the right hand corner of the blue box with the checker details. (You folks have made my earlier suggestions even better.) Lousy mockup available on request.

That way the search screen turns into something of a scoreboard and people don't need to run the checkers again unless they think the results are out of date.

Just a thought.

This really isn't a question, more a call to arms.

Most of you probably know what a challenge cache is. You might also be aware of the fact that sometimes geocaches are Unknowns with the word Challenge in the name, even though they aren't a challenge. The opposite also exists, geocaches that are challenges, but don't have a proper name.

To determine if a cache really is a challenge, Project-GC has something called Challenge exceptions. This is a list of exceptions. Users who are moderators for this can add exceptions to the list, and the community then votes if it's a challenge or not. For example, if two users vote It's not a challenge while seven users vote It's a challenge, it's likely to be a challenge.

We then calculate a certainty score from the votes with a similar formula (the same actually) that we calculate FP Wilson Score with. As it is today, if the certainty is >= 32%, we trust the votes.

We currently have around 30 users who has permission to give these votes, and are looking for a few more volunteers. It would be extra interesting to get volunteers who speaks other languages than Swedish and English for example, since it's obviously easier to understand if it's a challenge or not when you speak the language.

Currently there are almost 2000 exceptions in the list, over 6000 votes has been placed to determine if these are challenges or not.

We are planning to increase the required certainty from 32% to 35%, but before we do that, there are 93 exceptions that needs additional voting (to get 35% or above). 93 isn't a lot to be honest. I have myself been doing a handful a day for a week now.

Anyway, if you are interested in helping out maintaining this list you need permission. Just answer with a comment or answer in this thread the coming 1-2 weeks and we will grant you permission.
