Map counties shows counties as unfound while I do have founds in that county. How come?

Diekirch shows 0 founds.

But I do actually have found some caches in Diekirch, back in 2023.

And that is not the onliest county in Luxemburg that shows up as unfound, but I actually have found some.

Anybody an idea how come?

Hello, I have the habit to build a route to see if i could add a region or a counties on my road when going in holiday. It would be nice if we could see on maps done (https://project-gc.com/Profile/ProfileStats#Maps) a minimum of one reference town for each region and one head of for each counties. If sufficient place, when zoomed, the name of region and name of counties could also help everyone to upgrade geographic knowledge ;-)

Event Notifiers don't support multiple Region / County selection

You can fortunately select multiple event types when creating an event notifier, but I think there should be the option to also select at least Regions, maybe Counties too.

Use Case: I'm interested in CITOs in Switzerland, but only in the area near the Austrian border where I can go with public transport very cheaply.

That area is split up between 3-4 regions, so I would need to create multiple notifiers because I'm not interested in far away, more expensive to reach areas.

I would like to see the amount of Traditionals in each county.

In Tools, Map Counties there is an option 'Add filter'. If I add the filter 'Cache type / size' and choose 'Traitional', the result does not change: When I click on an individual county, I see the amount of all founds in that county. I would like to see the amount of traditionals. What do i do wrong?

Bugs following recent changes to the division of counties in Québec (Canada)

We have 101 counties in Québec and this has not changed for several years.

But recently, changes have been made to the division of the counties of Québec on the Project-GC database.

Three counties of Québec were split in two, which means that we end up with six counties instead of three, which is an error in relation to the reality.

The three affected counties before the changes:
- Brome-Missisquoi
- La Haute-Yamaska
- Québec

The three (now six) affected counties after the changes:
- Brome-Missisquoi
- Brome-Missisquoi (Québec)
- La Haute-Yamaska
- La Haute-Yamaska (Québec)
- Québec
- Québec (Québec)

Consequently, the results of Challenge Checkers using Québec counties are inconsistent with reality.

Example for me: I have found 17 caches in "Brome-Missisquoi" county.

But following recent changes on the database, I end up with:
- 9 caches found in "Brome-Missisquoi" county;
- 8 caches found in "Brome-Missisquoi (Québec)" county.

Very frustrating for geocachers who were qualified for certain challenges but no longer are because of this erroneous division in the database.

Even Project-GC stats by county are wrong following these recent changes on the database. Example for Belougas who has found at least one cache in the 101 counties of Québec: Project-GC thinks Belougas has found at least one cache in 104 counties of Québec on 101 counties of Québec... :

How soon will the new Connecticut "counties" show up on project-gc?

Connecticut has dissolved it's 8 historical counties and has replaced them with 9 new planning regions, or county equivalents. OpenStreetMaps has been updated so I'm just wondering how soon the new counties will show up in project-gc

Wrong counties in Latvia

After administrative reform in 1 July 2021, boundaries of counties have changed. Project-GC is still using the old list of counties.

I thought that OSM map is the issue, but no - OSM map is updated according to the new administrative division.

Who should be informed about this or can I help on this issue myself?

Several Dutch municipalities were either splitted, renamed or were joined together as of 1 January 2021. When will these changes be implemented on the counties map for the Netherlands? The changes are as follow:

Provincie Groningen: Appingedam, Delfzijl, Loppersum --> Eemsdelta
Provincie Noord-Brabant: Haaren --> (splitted to) Boxtel, Oisterwijk, Tilburg, Vught
Provincie Noord-Brabant: (renamed) Nuenen c.a. --> Nuenen

County info out of sync?

Something appears out of sync with my info or the underlying data for counties in Florida (US).

If I view the county map for Florida, it shows I haven't logged a find in Martin county. If I view Florida in the Map Counties tool, it shows green and 1 cache. My stats appear updated. It appears I do not have a cache in that county even though the Map Counties tool is indicating I did have a find.

Italian Counties (provinces) are actually 107 and not 110

Since 2016 the Sardinian provinces Olbia-Tempio, Ogliastra, Medio Campidano and Carbonia-Iglesias were abolished. In 2017 a new province was instituted, Sud Sardegna.
So actually there are 107 provinces in Italy and not 110 as in the stats.
I'm asking to correct these data on Project-GC database and to consider the "new" boundaries.

Most counties in a day list

On the Finds page there are 3 "Most... in a day" regarding location:

Most countries in a day
Most states in a day
Most counties in a day

However, there is no "Top ... in a day" List under Find Stats. Just wondering if this list can be obtained somewhere?

Ontario Counties of Haldimand and Norfolk should probably be separated

So I've been working on a couple challenges in my home province of Ontario (Canada) and have noticed that Project-GC uses the county of "Haldimand-Norfolk" but several challenges count them as separate counties. (for example Southern Ontario - Yours to Discover Challenge )

I did some searching around and found that Haldimand and Norfolk were separate counties from the late 1700s until 1974 when they were merged together. This lasted only until 2001 when the two counties were separated again.

Since the counties have been separate since almost as long as geocaching has existed, is it possible to make that change on project GC? I think it would be helpful for Geocachers in Ontario if it's possible.

Could municipalities in Croatia be used for county level maps, please?

In neighbouring Slovenia statistical regions are used as 2nd level geographical units ("states") by PGC and municipalities (občine) for 3rd level units ("counties"). This is very fine.

In Croatia I was expecting something similar. There counties (županije) are used as 2nd level units, and it would be logical to use municipalities (općine/gradovi) as 3rd level units, but this does not seem to be the case. Could this be introduced, please? (At the moment, no 3rd level units seem to be defined for Croatia.)

Germany: Region detail maps in Profile Stats are showing wrong counties

When you click on a region of Germany in the Maps section of the Profile Stats it displays a map of all counties within the selected region. But for some regions the displayed counties are not correct. I saw two issues in my stats which is Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) and Berlin.

The counties map of Niedersachsen shows one county belonging to North Rhine-Westphalia additional to the correct ones in white. I noticed this because I found a cache in all counties of Niedersachsen and NRW so everything should be green but the counties belonging to other regions than the selection are displayed in white (should be grey or not shown at all)

The counties map of Berlin should show Berlin only but instead it shows one county of Brandenburg in the south of Berlin as well in white.

Why is the Irish Republic shown as Ulster?

Some counties in the Republic of Ireland, specifically Donegal which we have found cache in, are listed as Ulster despite not being in Ulster (Northern Ireland). I think there some others that this also applies for. Geocaching.com also has NI listed as Ireland not UK (its GB if not counting NI), but that isn't a Project-GC problem!

Reinach (AG) municipality missing on project-gc.com (Switzerland)

Hello,

I was notified by challenge checker user about bug in list of Swiss counties (municipalities). I found out, that list of counties is not complete for Switzerland - municipality Reinach (AG) is missing.

Please, note, that there are two Reinach counties in Switzerland, one is in canton (region) Basel-Landschaft (this on is listed on project-gc.com) and second one is Reinach in canton (region) Aargau - this one is missing.

Both are distinguished by abbreviation of canton name in brackets after Reinach name:

Reinach (BL)

Reinach (AG) needs to be added to list of counties under Aargau region, Switzerland.

I just noticed that Project-GC does not acknowledge my find of a cache in Sierra County, CA. My only find in that county is a mystery cache which has a final location in the county, but the posted coordinate location is outside. Is there a way that I can have this find counted as a county find?

Is Bath in the UK in the Avon county?

I did a couple of caches in the city of Bath yesterday. When I downloaded them into GSAK they showed as being in the county of Avon.

If I look at the county map of the U.K. In Tools/Map countues Bath is shown as part of Somerset county.

A Google search of the county Avon was not very useful. I understand the UK does not have defined county borders. Is this one of the anomalies?

Making progress on English ceremonial counties

I've been working on UK polygons to use Ceremonial Counties as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceremonial_counties_of_England for Project-GC's county map.

I'm fairly sure I've got the mappings from ceremonial counties to Geocaching Regions correct however I'd appreciate feedback from English users to confirm I've correctly allocated them.

Keep the new UK polygon data?

This week we have updated polygon data for the United Kingdom. This included updating data for Scotland which had old and very broken data before, and for Wales.

It also ended up with some changes for England. We have used the data from OpenStreetMap as we normally do. For all other countries we use the data defined as administrative borders. Their data is described here, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:boundary%3Dadministrative.

The OSM data can be viewed online here, https://osm.wno-edv-service.de/boundaries/

We know many argue for using ceremonial borders for UK. Our tools doesn't allow that today and it would be quite a lot of work. Our old data didn't use them either, so there is no difference for this case. All other countries use the administrative borders, so it's a way more consistent with the rest of the world.

Considering we are using Metropolitan and non-metropolitan, the data we have now should be as correct as OSM has it. The future changes should then be minor, and only change if OSM changes their data (not live, it's still a manual task).

The question is, should we keep this data, or use the old data? Remember, using the old data will ruin the data of Scotland again.

We also just fixed a bug with the maps in Profile stats. If they rendered weirdly for you, hold down shift or ctrl while refreshing the page and it should fix itself.

Create a custom filters with specific counties?

I am trying to create a custom filter with 5 or 6 counties from 2 different regions in Sweden that I would like to apply to "Solved Mysteries". But it seems like I can only add one area to the filter (I only add Sweden and Göteborg and add/save, nothing else). I thought I could add Göteborg and Mölndal counties to the filter.

I know realise I can't even use Custom Filter on Solved Mysteries but the question about creating a custom area with Custom Filter remains. Or is it an other way to achieve this?

Any plans to implement "Improved Regions" for UK?

I note from http://project-gc.com/Home/CountrySupport that Improved Regions is not implemented for UK. However there exists Open Source boundary data files from the UK's Ordnanace Survey that provides this information royalty free. I've spent a while investigating these polygon files and I'm confident that they meet the criteria used elsewhere. ie: that the boundaries match the existing region boundaries used at Groundspeak.com.

The Ordnance Survey's Open Data boundary files are available from https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendatadownload/products.html - scroll down to look for the Boundary-Line product. You can interactively compare these boundaries with the Groundspeak boundaries at https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendata/viewer/index.html and select the boundary layer's tab, then select the first radio button "County, Unitary Authority and Metropolitan" to select which boundaries to show. (Make sure you aren't too zoomed out or the boundaries won't show).

Comparing the Google Earth boundaries file from Groundspeak to the boundary file from Ordnanace survey there appears to be an almost perfect match - certainly as good as there is for most other countries.

Thus as far as I can see there is no practical obstacle to implementing this free boundary data file.

This has many advantages for project-gc -

1) Its an official dataset that matches Groundpseak's boundraries.

2) It retains the majority of counties in place already - primary exception being Scotland where project-gc inexplicably uses boundaries that only ever existed for a brief 21 year period in the late 20th century. Moving to actual current boundaries for Scotland rather than older flash in the pan boundaries that don't mean anything to anyone would be a big step forward.

3) It also means that as any boundaries shift in future you are basing your data on an official source that would be quickly updated.

4) It's entirely royalty free boundary files which may be freely used on a commercial site such as project-gc without requiring negotiations or explicit consent.

Given all these advantages is there any timescale for being able to import these boundaries so we in the UK and particularly those of us in Scotland can benefit from accurate meaningful boundaries?

Caches not showing in Map Counties view

Hi,

I've been using project-gc for a while, and I thought it was time to "collaborate" a bit, so I became paying member. As a newbie, I'm afraid to be a bit lost.

- First of all in the Map Counties view it's mentioned:

"Also you can zoom in on a county to see what caches are available.", but when I zoom I see absolutely no caches

- Another point, on the news area in the Challenge checker part it's written "On maps at Project-GC you will see a green checkbox or a red stop sign depending on if you have completed the challenge or not". I don't seem to be able to find that "maps at Project-GC part where this autocheck thing appears.

Your help would be appreciated

How to implement a checker in my Listing

Hi,

I own a challenge Cache "Durch die halbe Republik" GC3MN41. It is nessassary to visit 8 german counties at the same day.

How can I customize and implement an existing checker (e.g. GC2J8W3 - Die halbe Republik (Challenge-Cache) (Germany) ) to my LIsting, My title etc.

Or is it nessessary to write a new Checker-Script (i cannot :(.

Is it possible to add a more detailed location filter to the Find Checker section of the Challenge Checkers? At present only the country can be filtered, which makes it very difficult to find a specific checker. Even a 'Region/State' filter would be useful.

The target is to find caches in German counties, which build a linked corridor

a) West to East from the Netherlands/ Belgium border to the Polish border

b) North to South from the Danish border to the Austrian or Swiss border.

Of course archived and deactivated caches should also be taken into account. The type of cache is irrelevant.

Hi there,

I own some (two) challenge caches where the cacher has to prove, that he found caches in a sequence of counties (of germany) that touches each other.

One challenge (Nord-Süd-Gefälle GC51VQV) needs to find Caches in continuously counties from north (Danmark) to south (Austria od Switzerland, the other (Ost-West-Verhandlungen GC51VQW) needs the show founds in a continuously row of counties from east (Poland or Czech) to west (netherland, France, Belgium oer Luxembourg).

Ok, the maps works fine, but is there a possibility to prove the condition with a checker???
