In Maps tab, have types per country listed

It would be great to have data on both the number of types per country, and a list of the types per country on my Profile stats page. I think these would fit best on the 'Maps' tab, but not sure where in the page layout - perhaps a number and the type icons in the brown header band under the country name?

Hello, I have the habit to build a route to see if i could add a region or a counties on my road when going in holiday. It would be nice if we could see on maps done (https://project-gc.com/Profile/ProfileStats#Maps) a minimum of one reference town for each region and one head of for each counties. If sufficient place, when zoomed, the name of region and name of counties could also help everyone to upgrade geographic knowledge ;-)

Change color theme on FTF maps

I very much appreciate the new FTF maps. But the default color appears to be yellow-orange. Not bad for state or country maps, but counties are hard to make out.

Here, you can easily see the counties in New Mexico due to their size, but the smaller ones get lost.

It would appear that these maps are not tied to the color theme in profile settings and don't adjust when picking a different color theme. I ask please that a feature be added so that I can pick a higher contrast color theme.

Alternately, I would at least recommend using a higher contrast default color than yellow-orange.

Maps don't appear for example in Map Compare

No map appears in Map compare, Map of Challenge checkers, Map regions and counties. In the upper right corner i says Enable Google maps but nohing happens when clicking that.

Daegu, South Korea recently merged with Gunwi-gun changing administrative borders. Can this be updated on Project-gc?

Gunwi-gun used to be located in Gyungsangbuk-do province, but has merged with Daegu City. This changes major administrative boundaries in Korea.

The changes have been updated on Openstreetmap already. Can this be updated on Project-GC?

I would like to see a list of countries without find under the map in maps section.

Delorme not working on iphone/ipad

Has anyone else noticed delorme and adc challenge checkers stopped working on iphone/ ipad about a month ago. When I run a checker for one of these geographic challenges, the map grid no longer displays, just the list. It works fine on PC but no longer in ipad iphone which is what I use the most. Anyone else with this problem??

It is nice to be ahead of the times, but unfortunately this is currently an error in the map display of the district map of Germany. If you display the map of Germany (total), Holland and Belgium are shown in water colour. Only the county borders are still visible. This error occurs both in the small map and in the enlargement, but not when the districts of individually selected federal states are displayed.

How are Profile Map Percentages Calculated?

I'm seeing something I don't understand on my profile map pages. Take for example the United States map. North Carolina is listed with 3112 finds and (15%) whereas Louisiana is listed with 1850 finds and (37%) The counts make sense, but the percentages don't make any sense to me.

This confusion continues as I dig deeper if I drill down and look at North Carolina only. Guilford County is listed with 1085 finds and 57%, and Pitt county is listed with 352 finds and 126%. Further, the map seems to be shaded based on the percentage. What am I missing?

buttons of prefectures of Japan are missing?

In the Japan section, I have no way to view the detailed maps for each prefecture. However, the borders of the individual prefectures are marked on the national map.

Looking at the maps - New Zealnd is identified as having 3 regions - it only had 2 before
North and South Island

The new maps look great, however for some countries that are close to the dateline the MapExtent is a bit unfortunate. For example, New Zealand: I see almost nothing of NZ, but have large parts of South America in the view. Would it be possible to fix this optical issue?

Would it be absurdly difficult to have a version of the Maps page that reflects only FTF's? I'd been attempting to get an FTF in each (broadly defined) local county, and the lack of a visual guide was a nuisance.

Sark country is not assigned to Europe

Hi,

as it happens we found a "new" European country - Sark - on geocaching.com web site. At Project-GC it is included as country in the list for Top Finders. In the Profile stats it is included in the World map (btw w/o flag), but it is missing in Europe map and possibly also in the list of 54 Europe countries. Findings in Sark are not included in the Guernsey ones (what is correct). I tested it on the "spuzva" profile.

Could it be possible to add Sark as 55th European country?

Suggestion: New Map Country Report

The Map tools - Map Regions & Map Counties are very useful. However having mapped various countries I am thinking it would be useful to have one level above the Map Regions. That of Map Countries.

The idea would be to have each country shaded green or red as per the previous maps but on a COUNTRY by country basis. The selector could be continents so North America/South America/Europe/Asia/Africa/Oceania/Antartica then the map would show say all of Europe and shade in red or green according to whether the country had been cached in.

The beauty of this sort of report is that the data already exists in the database and the outline polygons for the maps already exist. Particularly for Europe with its little pockets of countries and territories this would be a useful report. So it wouldn't take much to add this feature,

It could even be used as a teaser report for showing what paying members get in more detail with map regions and map counties encouraging further subscriptions.

Kosovo showing as a separate country

According to Map Regions, Kosovo is a region of Serbia, not a separate country. Howvever in the map of Europe it is shown as having a border with the rest of Serbia. It also shows as green, even though I've only found caches in Central Serbia.

I'm not stating whether it should be a separate coutry or not, but as GroundSpeak/PGC regard it as part of Serbia, could you remove the border on the map please, otherwise it looks like I've cached in an area where I haven't. Thanks.

Google Maps "Oops! Something went wrong" error

Today I'm unable to use either Google Maps or Satellite view on any of the map pages in Chrome, getting an error "Oops! Something went wrong" and to see the JavaScript console for more details. Anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

Chech Republic Map broken

It seems the map of the Czech Republic is broken in the stats, it is only grey. Also the title reads “Czechia” which sounds odd (see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czech_Republic)

Ontario Counties of Haldimand and Norfolk should probably be separated

So I've been working on a couple challenges in my home province of Ontario (Canada) and have noticed that Project-GC uses the county of "Haldimand-Norfolk" but several challenges count them as separate counties. (for example Southern Ontario - Yours to Discover Challenge )

I did some searching around and found that Haldimand and Norfolk were separate counties from the late 1700s until 1974 when they were merged together. This lasted only until 2001 when the two counties were separated again.

Since the counties have been separate since almost as long as geocaching has existed, is it possible to make that change on project GC? I think it would be helpful for Geocachers in Ontario if it's possible.

I like the different maps in the statistics, and tools for mapping out the different territories in which I found caches. A nice feature would be to have the three most recent countries, regions, states on each map tha thave been found - this would make the changes more clear and give a direct reward for adding a new territory.

Germany: Region detail maps in Profile Stats are showing wrong counties

When you click on a region of Germany in the Maps section of the Profile Stats it displays a map of all counties within the selected region. But for some regions the displayed counties are not correct. I saw two issues in my stats which is Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) and Berlin.

The counties map of Niedersachsen shows one county belonging to North Rhine-Westphalia additional to the correct ones in white. I noticed this because I found a cache in all counties of Niedersachsen and NRW so everything should be green but the counties belonging to other regions than the selection are displayed in white (should be grey or not shown at all)

The counties map of Berlin should show Berlin only but instead it shows one county of Brandenburg in the south of Berlin as well in white.

Please make sure to add the following changes to all relevant.

The colors on the map mark the regions and their new district:
for e.g. Klosterneuburg doesn't belong to Wien-Umgebung any more but to Tulln.

This is important (from my point of view) when you make e.g. a D/T search.

Hi all,

Is there any way to preview the maps that are shown in Profile stats / Maps before you actually visit the country for the first time? Reason I ask is to be able to plan trips upfront, taking into account the regions and counties that Project-GC distinguishes. Right now I can't think of a way to do that, before having visited the country I'm planning to visit, so the map is already made available to me.

Feature Request - Livemap search for a GC code

We've been using Project-GC for several years and recently signed up for a three year membership. Every time I dig around on this product I'm amazed at how much functionality is included - very impressive from an engineering perspective!

There is one particular feature missing from the Livemap that is very frustrating - the ability to search for a cache by GC code. There are several ways to work around this (e.g. create a virtual GPS, enter the GC code there then map the virtual GPS) but I haven't found any that are particularly convenient. I see that the ability to search via GC code is listed as a feature planned for the future. Any idea when this functionality might be implemented?

The Tool "Map DT Matrix" offers two identical filters: "Cache type / size" and "D/T type / size ". Both seem to have the same options, the second one is marked "Paying members only". Either one of them is obsolete or I just don't understand the different features :-)

Map Display of Cache Hides Belonging to a Specific Individual (Cache Owner)

I believe it would be very useful to be able to look at a map that displays the location of placements for an individual cache owner. The display, apart from physical location, would also need to indicates cache type and whether found or not by enquirer.

For use where there is a particular hider (cache owner) who makes really good caches and it would be very helpful to have a spatial display of the location of those caches along with an indication as to whether it has been found by the enquirer or not, so that when a seeker (the enquirer) visits a particular area they can plan their visit to seek out those specific caches.

How does continents display on profile stats?

I checked the maps-tab of my profile stats and was happy to see that Asia has been added as a separate map. I have found caches in three countries in Asia, so that would make sense, but why is North America and South America not displayed? I have 3 and 4 countries there.

Can these maps be added? Preferably one of them would include Central America as well.

Is Bath in the UK in the Avon county?

I did a couple of caches in the city of Bath yesterday. When I downloaded them into GSAK they showed as being in the county of Avon.

If I look at the county map of the U.K. In Tools/Map countues Bath is shown as part of Somerset county.

A Google search of the county Avon was not very useful. I understand the UK does not have defined county borders. Is this one of the anomalies?

In January 2016 there were some changes of the boundaries of county in Switzerland. Actually there are "only" 2409 counties in Switzerland. In comparision with the map of Switzerland on the statistic page, where you will find 2412 counties, it seems there is a small bug. Would it be possible to recheck or reimport the boundaries of Switzerland to adapt the new county situation in Switzerland.

No map data in Firefox

Hi guys. Some time ago I tried living without Java and and took it off my system.I have since reinstalled it and it is working fine, but I may have disabled other things in the process, as I have not been able to restore my PGC maps - none of them work. Just a grey square with the navigation cluster. Problem only occurs in Firefox (I did not diable anything in my other browsers). Coupled with this is that Solved Mysteries select all checkbox and Add button are also non-functional.

In Livemap, as well as the map, all the sidebar icons are missing.

Does the map use any library (I suspect it does not use Java) that I may have turned off?
I tried reinstalling firefox but it kept all my settings (grrrr)

Keep the new UK polygon data?

This week we have updated polygon data for the United Kingdom. This included updating data for Scotland which had old and very broken data before, and for Wales.

It also ended up with some changes for England. We have used the data from OpenStreetMap as we normally do. For all other countries we use the data defined as administrative borders. Their data is described here, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:boundary%3Dadministrative.

The OSM data can be viewed online here, https://osm.wno-edv-service.de/boundaries/

We know many argue for using ceremonial borders for UK. Our tools doesn't allow that today and it would be quite a lot of work. Our old data didn't use them either, so there is no difference for this case. All other countries use the administrative borders, so it's a way more consistent with the rest of the world.

Considering we are using Metropolitan and non-metropolitan, the data we have now should be as correct as OSM has it. The future changes should then be minor, and only change if OSM changes their data (not live, it's still a manual task).

The question is, should we keep this data, or use the old data? Remember, using the old data will ruin the data of Scotland again.

We also just fixed a bug with the maps in Profile stats. If they rendered weirdly for you, hold down shift or ctrl while refreshing the page and it should fix itself.

Missing counties UK

There is a big mess now in the UK map.

Many found counties are now grey instead of green and if I click on the loser look, they are not even light grey, but dark grey, like a different region.

What's happened to the UK counties map?

The UK Counties Map seems to have changed quite a lot. In 'Map Counties', some counties like South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire seem to have been split up into smaller sections (which are NOT counties), and West Midlands (which wasn't a county anyway) has been similarly cut up.

However, the counties map on the Profile Stats 'Maps' tab is the same as it always was, but with bits greyed out where I previously had loads of finds - such as South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

I realise the mapping info is taken from somewhere else, and isn't good for the UK anyway, but can it please please please be kept consistent?

Events on the map should show date instead of amount of FP

It is bogging me for some time when I see different events on the map(s) and I have no idea when they are taking place. Instead I see that the event has "0 FP (0%, 0W)", which is useless information (events can't get FPs).

Would it be possible to swap the FP information for date of the event to produce another bit of usability? I am particularly interested in the Live Map, but it might be useful even in the others map based tools.

Display a map of Central America / Caribbean Sea

After logging my finds of my trip to Curacao in the Caribbean Sea I discovered, that there aren't any maps that are displayed. I can understand that a small country like Curacao doesn't need an own "Country map", but why isn't there an overview e.g. for Central America with Caribbean Sea, similar to the overview of Europe?

I think I am not the only one who would appreciate that map in the profile statistics :)

Northern Ireland should be gray on Ireland map

Just a minor issue in the maps: Now that Northern Ireland is again counted as part of the UK on the map of Europe, it should be rendered gray on the map of Ireland... I know the topic is complex due to the Groundspeak specific geography, but this would at least remove inconsistency.

Bug: Tool tips missing

I was exploring my country, looking for challenges that still need checkers, ie working on the map of challenge checkers, And I noticed the VGPS controls do not have tool tips. The other controls do have tool tips. Some of the VGPS controls I can guess - add or remove from VGPS. What? The whole screen full? One tool I have no idea what it does. Tool tips would be useful. The VGPS controls appear on a number of maps, of course.

And, as always, PLEASE!!!! A MAP LEGEND!!!! This website hasd to cater to newcomers here, not just peole who have been using PGC for years. A graphic at the bottom of the map explaing all the sub-icons on the caches.
