Is it possible to automatically check challenges in a region or country?

I have read the procedure Project-GC uses to auto check the challenges nearby your home address in this topic: Auto-challenge-checkers

Now am I planning a trip to Sweden and I was wondering if it possible to let project-GC check if you fulfill challenges in a particular region? It is mentioned as a future topic, but I understand it is hard to complete all wishes at the same time to this site.

Hello, I have the habit to build a route to see if i could add a region or a counties on my road when going in holiday. It would be nice if we could see on maps done (https://project-gc.com/Profile/ProfileStats#Maps) a minimum of one reference town for each region and one head of for each counties. If sufficient place, when zoomed, the name of region and name of counties could also help everyone to upgrade geographic knowledge ;-)

I very often group the VGPS list by country, region or county. The group headers will contain the grouping element, all groups are sorted alphabetically by this element.

Example: the list contains caches from several countries and is grouped by county.

The groups of the different counties are sorted alphabetically across the individual countries and are not grouped together in supergroups (which would be the optimal improvement :-)

Since the latter is certainly not so easy to realize, my wish would be to place the names of the region and the country to which the respective county belongs in the group header after the name of the county. When grouping by region, this only applies to the name of the country.

This would allow you to quickly recognize which countries and regions many unknown counties belong to.

With BadgeGen you can see in which countries you've found an FTF. But is there a way to see this on a map as well, on country, region and/or county scale?

Crimea - where it belongs

Hi, I was going through some old stats and noticed that on your maps, Crimea is not marked as part of Ukraine; why? Sure, it has been occupied since 2014, yet even geocaching.com mark it as part of Ukraine (click any geocaches in the area, and it shows Ukraine).

But in the bottom of the page it shows me Ukraine with 0 regions and 0 counties logged. And according to that map Crimea is not included in Ukraine: https://yadi.sk/i/ye59fmGnKPRBNQ

Crimea exists as a county in Russia, but it also shows 0 finds there: https://yadi.sk/i/7ULbt-HMACVv3Q

Moreover, if you click on Crimea, you can see only 6 caches there, even though there are more in the region: https://yadi.sk/i/bXoJGqFBRPgtuw (and 0 caches in Sevastopol)

I don't want any political discussion here please :) I just want caches in Crimea to be shown in one country, region and county, so the statistics can be consistent.

Spanish regions bug report

Finally decided to report this... ;-)
Next time you're doing some DB maintenance, the table that contains the Spanish regions, ie; Asturias, Castilla & Leon, etc, there is an incorrect entry in the "regions" pull-down, presumably due to a cut/paste error.
"Antwerpen" appears as a region of Spain, visible in any page where you choose a country then a region. This appears once you've selected "Spain" as the country.
I'm not sure how languages are dealt with, but this appears in my Macbook which is set to English(UK).

missing region in Incheon, South Korea

Hello, I just now noticed a missing "County Level" region in the "State Level" maps on project gc.

It is a small region, so I hadn't noticed it before.

When I searched using the "Search Counties" tool at the country level, I noticed a red spot where I didn't expect. When I zoomed in I could select Dong-gu on the country level county map.

However, when I use the "Search Counties" tool filtering at the state level, the county disappears and is not selectable. Dong-gu is also not present in the maps tab in my profile stats.

This is a legitimate "County Level" region in Incheon, Korea, but seems to be missing most places.

Germany: Region detail maps in Profile Stats are showing wrong counties

When you click on a region of Germany in the Maps section of the Profile Stats it displays a map of all counties within the selected region. But for some regions the displayed counties are not correct. I saw two issues in my stats which is Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) and Berlin.

The counties map of Niedersachsen shows one county belonging to North Rhine-Westphalia additional to the correct ones in white. I noticed this because I found a cache in all counties of Niedersachsen and NRW so everything should be green but the counties belonging to other regions than the selection are displayed in white (should be grey or not shown at all)

The counties map of Berlin should show Berlin only but instead it shows one county of Brandenburg in the south of Berlin as well in white.

Ability to select multiple regions

Can the capability to select multiple regions be added to the 'map of challenge checkers' tool? There are many times when I'm looking for challenges that I may have completed in regions that border each other. It would be very handy to be able to do this on one request instead of one for each region.

Can't see regions in Switzerland anymore

Before I could see the cantons when I was on the regions tab, but this is now gone, so I'm left with the 2000+ communes from the county tab. However I can now see some other divisions (seems to be regions) which I can choose under the county button, which weren't there before.
Is this a bug? Or an incomplete feature?

Mismatch between regions and counties in Kiev, Ukraine

This is not of the utmsost importance, but I believe that it is a bug none the less.

I don't know how government is structured in the Ukraine, but based alone on the locations of the green spots on the counties map, I believe that there is an error.

As I like going a bit further afield for CITOs, I'd like to set up an event notifier for several regions (in the UK) - I'm based in the West Midands, so would like to create one that for (say) West Midlands/East Midlands/North Wales/South Wales. Setting it for the whole of the UK would give me too many outside my range. Any possibility this could be included?

Differences of mystery caches and map challenges

This question comes from Germany and is for a single german federal state and its counties. I checked the map and see "Found it" in a county where i have not been yet. The reason: The location of the mystery question mark is used and not the location of the cache. What does that mean for the truth of a solved Challenge? "A minimum of one cache in all counties and cities in one federal state." Looks like i can solve the challenge and there is no need to set a foot in this county.

Bug with Spanish regions (Balearic Islands)

In my Profile Stats it shows that I have finds in 3 regions of Spain:

Islas Baleares: 17

Andalucía: 9

Balearic Islands: 5

Actually it should be only 2 as 'Islas Baleares' and 'Balearic Islands' is the same.

You can also see this bug in the Map Regions tool. In the text area below the map it will show two entries for the Balearic region but on the map, if you hover the mouse cursor over this region, there is only 'Islas Baleares'.

In my opinion this might be a translation issue and it should be named only 'Islas Baleares' similar to 'Islas Canaris' (which is correctly listed only once btw).

Error: One option too much in Map Counties - Belgium

When selecting "Map Counties", then selecting Belgium for County / Region, there are 12 options for counties, while Belgium has only 11 provinces. The option that is too much and isn't working anyway is "Brussels" - it doesn't show a map and details. The selection "Bruxelles-Capitale - Brussel-Hoofdstad" is working just fine and is the correct one. Please remove "Brussels" from the list.

Using Map Counties it might be an interesting to be able to turn on multi select for the regions- and country-boxes like in Map - Hidden Month and others.

In the moment you can only show all counties of one country or all counties of one regions of one country.

In Map Regions similar only with the countries box.

You would be able to show all or some Regions of both Germany and Denmark for example or all or some counties of the border regions Syddanmark and Schleswig-Holstein if you make holiday near a countries border.

Watch a region to get the published caches.

I am not sure, if the question was asked already:

I want to watch a defined region. I would like to get an email, if a new Cache (maybe even only selected types) is published (or "detected by PGC") in that region.

I don't want to hunt FTF's with this method. I just want to have a "backup" solution to the publish-emails from geocaching.com.

(Reason: a friend of me has placed a new cache, and it got published without a publish notification (i have the region covered in my publish notifiers and other cachers in the region did not get a notifiction, too) plus, the cache has not been in my GPX, that gets the newest caches in that region in the last 7 days.)

So i would like to have another tool to be noticed of new caches in my region.

I would like it to be similar to the rescue map zones..

Is that possible?

Why can't I show regions on the UK map?

With most of the countries I can show either Regions or Counties in the Map section (in the profile stats). Not so with the UK, where it's only Counties. But I can choose a submap of a particular region, and they count correctly for my UK country badge. Why? Is it related to http://project-gc.com/qa/?qa=7961/any-plans-to-implement-improved-regions-for-uk ?

A page that lists contries on a continent where you haven't logged a cache. It's easy to see for the big counties, but there are so many small contries in Europe :)

since yesterday, there is 2 regions Île-de-France & Ile-de-France in France, for instance in top-down list of % favorised caches (and other top with regions).

The correct syntax is Île-de-France with the ^ . But this one returns no cache.

On the Profile Stats tab called Map it shows the Regions & Counties for each country on a map. Is there a shapefile (or similar format file) available for download that contains this boundary information that I could use for personal use?

Is the Isle of Man a separate country?

I see the Isle of Man is classified as a separate country by Geocaching.com. When I download to GSAK the cache is shown as in North Yorkshire County but the country is Isle of Man.

P-GC does not show it as a separate country.

It would be really nice if you could implement a stats page that shows how many logs are received for all caches in a defined geographc area over time.

In that way you can easilly tell the "caching temperature" of a city or region.

Bug: Showing bad regions in slected country

When I wanted to use tool Top least unfound, I spotted adding some false regions to combobox Only people from.

As in screenshot it shows me (besides the correct ones) regions of England etc. I replicated the bug on other pages too. However, same combobox above Cache location works correctly.

Why do the regions and counties maps of Portugal look like "perforated"

I recognized that the maps for counties and regions of Portugal look different: the areas are not filled completely, they have "holes" and therefore the image looks ugly.

You can see it for example at http://project-gc.com/ProfileStats/FerrariGirlNr1#Maps if you scroll down to the "Portugal" section. I haven't seen it at other maps, so it seems to be a source file problem of the map?

Maps - order of regions

Just out of curiousity, how is the order that regions are displayed in determined for the maps tab? It seems to be approximately in descending order of caches found in that region, but my statistics page puts Southern England (with 31 caches) behind South West, East Midlands and North West (with 28, 27 and 19 caches respectively). I haven't got any caches in the Southern region for some time, so presumably it's not a case of lagging. Anyone any insights?

Why is France not colored in green on my world map, although I have found 14 caches there? My French finds are in Strasbourg, could it be that this is somehow too close to the German border? (France IS shown in green on my European map though.)

Same problem in Russia btw, 3 Caches found in St. Petersburg, but not shown on the Russian regions map...

Why is project GC showing more caches per region then I found?

According to geocaching.com I found 227 caches in the Netherlands, project GC is showing 230. The regions map is also showing incorrect counts. Regions Utrecht, Flevoland en Gelderland are showing higher counts compared to Geocaching.com. My friend is having the same issues with Flevoland.

Other regions are correct, they are not 'missing' any caches, so it doesn't look like it's because of small changes in the borders. Unless there are overlapping regions somehow?

I checked for bad logs, but I had none. But they could not be the cause for to many caches. How can this be fixed?

I've made checker that checks minimum finds for combination of types, sizes, countries, regions or counties. You can also limit the cache types, minimum difficulty, minimum terrain and minimum visit date.

EXAMPLES:

You can check if you have found:

at least 100 multi caches and 100 mystery caches,
at least 50 regulars, 100 small and 200 micro in Texas,
at least 100 caches in Arizona and 200 caches in Texas.
at least 50 caches D5T5 in USA and 20 in Canada after the 2010-01-01

New checker: Country, region, continent combination checker

I have a new checker that allows you to check for various combinations of number of countries, number of regions, number of regions in a certain set of countries etc.

I've also added continent definitions (there are a few iffy ones: Russia, Turkey), so you can check for number of continents found.

Check it out, and let me know if you need some updates to work with a specific challenge. I'll probably add counties at some point if necessary.

Is it possible to add a possibility to see top region and county finders regardles of the country that region or county is in? I am quite curious for example "Who out of Polish geocachers found most regions worldwide?" Countries without defined regions could just add one point each to this stat.

option to choose character set

GF is planning a trip to Egypt and we had a look at possible cashes at her destination when I realized a small issue.

All region names are in arabic characters and we still have some difficulties to properly understand them. Could it be an option to choose to display them using english names or at least with a character set I understand?

It would also be interesting to see how many caches of each type are there within this region.

It would also be very interesting to see how many cachers have been active in this region and from where they came from (only roughly by distance from home location).

Canary Islands not on the Spain map

On the Profile Stats > Map tab, the overview of Spain is missing the Canary Islands. I think an improvement would be to have an inset in the corner showing it. The same doubtless applies to some other countries.

Why are some cities shown as seperate regions on the UK map?

I noted recently that a number of smaller regions have appeared on the UK map, eg:

I read elsewhere that Project GC might get its region data from OpenStreetMap, so I did a little digging. It looked like it may be that unitary authorities were being treated the same as counties. This does appear to be the case as OpenStreetMap does not distinguish between administrative counties and unitary authorities - both are recorded as admin_level:6

Is this intentional, or should it only be counties?

I hate urban caches so it's slightly annoying having to get a cache in each of these urban areas as well as the county to fill all the map in!

Map of Luxembourg lacks colours

Dear, guess this is some kind of bug, but on our profile (maps-page), the map of Luxembourg (the country) lacks colouring for the regions with founds. Probably something to do with the new polygon data I guess.
