Event Notifiers don't support multiple Region / County selection

You can fortunately select multiple event types when creating an event notifier, but I think there should be the option to also select at least Regions, maybe Counties too.

Use Case: I'm interested in CITOs in Switzerland, but only in the area near the Austrian border where I can go with public transport very cheaply.

That area is split up between 3-4 regions, so I would need to create multiple notifiers because I'm not interested in far away, more expensive to reach areas.

Add more granular boundary regions in the Singapore map

Currently the Singapore map only supports very coarse grained regions. There are only five regions. It looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/HXxUG4K.png

Singapore can be further subdivided into what the government calls Planning Areas, though colloquially it's more commonly referred to as districts or neighbourhoods.

I've built a small tool to visualize my cache finds on a map subdivided by these Planning Areas. It looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/6DFHc1m.png

While it's already useful for me, it'd be nice if a map like this was readily available to other Singaporeans using project-gc. Ideally we'd be able to toggle between subdivisions by region, and by planning areas. Similar to how the US map can be toggled between subdivisions by state and counties.

Finally, if this suggestion is implemented, might I suggest that the map be named "Districts" instead of "Planning Areas"? While the latter is the formal term used by our government, the former is how the locals typically refer to these subdivisions.

Is there a way to see all the supported regions in the world?

I'm trying to understand what are the supported regions. I can easily see the regions from the countries I have founds from maps, but I'm lacking the overview and/or list of all the known regions in the world. Is regionthere any way of seeing this or potentially extracting this information thru cache checker script?

Wrong counties in Latvia

After administrative reform in 1 July 2021, boundaries of counties have changed. Project-GC is still using the old list of counties.

I thought that OSM map is the issue, but no - OSM map is updated according to the new administrative division.

Who should be informed about this or can I help on this issue myself?

Wrong region in Vietnam

Project-GC lists 9 regions for Vietnam, but in reality there is only 8 regions.

I want to create a challenge for regions in Belarus. I have encountered the problem that Project-GC has only 6 regions defined for Belarus, but in fact the capital city of Minsk is considered the seventh region.

Support shading for Cyprus on map of Europe

it seems that Cyprus has been included on the project-GC map of Europe.

However, that map does not support shading yet. Cyprus is still greyed out, regardless if one has found caches there.

Not the highest priority item, but could you please add it to the queue?

I am curious why Cyprus is regarded as only Asia on the Project-GC maps, but not Europe, given that it is an EU member. I am aware of the geological boundaries.

Turkey is represented as both Europe and also as Asia on the 2 respective regional maps.

Perhaps, Cyprus should be added to Europe?

Currently, the map of Europe only shows countries cached, and regions and counties are only visible on individual country maps. I'd like to see the option to view regions cached in Europe, much like the individual country maps can be viewed by region or by county..

(This doesn't need to be confined to Europe, but I think that map would be the most conducive of continent maps to see this, at least for testing feasibility.)

Profile map error: US Virgin Islands

There is a display error in the regions map for the US Virgin Islands. The caption correctly reads that we have 4 finds on St. Thomas, but all the islands displayed on the map are gray.

I also think the regions need to be redefined. Not sure what the regions are, but there are apparently only two, of which one is St. Thomas. The USVI actually has three administrative regions: St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix.

Has the region level of Luxembourg changed?

Previously I had all (3) states in Luxembourg.
Today I see that Luxembourg has 12 regions. Is this an error, or have you changed the definition of region for Luxembourg?

Second regional sorting Australia

Used to be able to have a sorting on region/county for the Australian states. Since a week or so this is gone.

Applies to Top finders and many more. Tried Sweden, and there a second and third selection works.

Map regions seems to have a glitch in China

the map regions page has a glitch in China: it seems the Beijing region is shifted towards the boarder between Hebei (which should be surrounding Beijing) and Tianjin. Seen this with iOS Safari.

Tasmania as a US region

Hello,

Going to the top elevation statistics screen form lists Tasmania as a region in the United States. However looking at the results there are no caches listed.

Settings page does not support regions in override home location

I see that an option has been added to let you add an override setting to let you yourself determine your home location, rather than have an algorithm determine it on the basis of your finds. Admirable.

It seems, however, that there is a discrepancy between what this system knows about which regions are available, and which regions the map filters do. If I go to one of the map tools and choose Denmark as my home country (default, has a button next to it with a flag), I get to pick from one of the 5 regions in Denmark afterwards to narrow my search (and then the same again for county within that region , but that's irrelevant here). If I explicitly pick Denmark in the override drop-down box on the settings page, no options are available in the "Regions" drop-down box.

Its fair enough if the algorithm determines that it does not have sufficient data to conclude which region is my home region (and I am explicitly not opening the discussion on whether it does or not here), but for the override setting, all the regions should be an option. It's not like project-gc does not know which ones are available.

Thank you for a very good website with features of tremendous utility and only minor glitches, one of which is this :)

Create a custom filters with specific counties?

I am trying to create a custom filter with 5 or 6 counties from 2 different regions in Sweden that I would like to apply to "Solved Mysteries". But it seems like I can only add one area to the filter (I only add Sweden and Göteborg and add/save, nothing else). I thought I could add Göteborg and Mölndal counties to the filter.

I know realise I can't even use Custom Filter on Solved Mysteries but the question about creating a custom area with Custom Filter remains. Or is it an other way to achieve this?

Any plans to implement "Improved Regions" for UK?

I note from http://project-gc.com/Home/CountrySupport that Improved Regions is not implemented for UK. However there exists Open Source boundary data files from the UK's Ordnanace Survey that provides this information royalty free. I've spent a while investigating these polygon files and I'm confident that they meet the criteria used elsewhere. ie: that the boundaries match the existing region boundaries used at Groundspeak.com.

The Ordnance Survey's Open Data boundary files are available from https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendatadownload/products.html - scroll down to look for the Boundary-Line product. You can interactively compare these boundaries with the Groundspeak boundaries at https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendata/viewer/index.html and select the boundary layer's tab, then select the first radio button "County, Unitary Authority and Metropolitan" to select which boundaries to show. (Make sure you aren't too zoomed out or the boundaries won't show).

Comparing the Google Earth boundaries file from Groundspeak to the boundary file from Ordnanace survey there appears to be an almost perfect match - certainly as good as there is for most other countries.

Thus as far as I can see there is no practical obstacle to implementing this free boundary data file.

This has many advantages for project-gc -

1) Its an official dataset that matches Groundpseak's boundraries.

2) It retains the majority of counties in place already - primary exception being Scotland where project-gc inexplicably uses boundaries that only ever existed for a brief 21 year period in the late 20th century. Moving to actual current boundaries for Scotland rather than older flash in the pan boundaries that don't mean anything to anyone would be a big step forward.

3) It also means that as any boundaries shift in future you are basing your data on an official source that would be quickly updated.

4) It's entirely royalty free boundary files which may be freely used on a commercial site such as project-gc without requiring negotiations or explicit consent.

Given all these advantages is there any timescale for being able to import these boundaries so we in the UK and particularly those of us in Scotland can benefit from accurate meaningful boundaries?
