Suggestion to new statistics

I have a suggestion to a new statistics:

An overview of active caches in a region, placed by year and number of you have found of those.

It is already possible to have an overview by caches in a region or city and you can filter by active caches and a period when they were placed.

For example: you have a choicebox with country and region, and then the result is a table by year:

The idea for this statistics is when a logged the oldest caches for a specific region. When i found all of them from 2000, i logged those from 2001,... so at the moment i have found all the caches in my region places between 2000-2010 and i want to log those from 2011 this year.

Extremes by area: Why did already found "Most central" caches disappear from the statistics?

In my PGC profile stats I had some extreme finds (extremes by area). Today I was surprised by the absence of all "most central" icons.

I checked, if there are new caches published, closer to the geographical center coordinate of that area, but there were no changes.

Will that issue be fixed? Or maybe PGC uses another method to determine the most central cache?

I find the "Extremes-by-area" statistic very interesting. It's comparable to the GeoTrophy. Unfortunately, it doesn't take historical data into account.

In PGC, I only found the oldest, highest, most found, and most favorite in Denmark. However, I also found the northernmost, westernmost, and southernmost—at least as they were at that time. It would be good to include these as well, since the statistics otherwise constantly change.

Inconsistencies in the counting of events

Project-GC is not coherent in regard of those special names for Events every 5 years:

On the events folder all are counted, although CCE are not counted as such but as "Lost and Found", a type of event I've never done. Block-Parties are counted as BP.

On the badge pages it's completely different:

CCE are counted as ordinary events for the badge
BP are not counted at all as events, neither ordinary nor, as they should, as Mega
Both event types give an add-on for the Geocacher badge, if you visit one
Only CCE gives an add-on for the Event Host badge, if you host one, BP doesn't

This topic has come up several times here, but nobody seems to care about this inconsistencies.

In the wiki they are not even mentioned, only as "Geocaching HQ Block Party (formerly Groundspeak Block Party)", so as a kind of historical event. I've asked about that on the article talk page.

The year is now half through, but nothing has happened in this regard, no consistent answer was given, just some insisting on "a special type" for BP, but that's the same with CCE, which are treated completely different.

Edit for a wee bit more information:

I just looked up the stats of a well known event host and -visitor in this area here, lavette96:

On the badge page he's got:

1249 ordinary events
100 CITO
33 Mega
8 Giga
5 Maze

In sum that's 1395 visited events.

On his events page he's got:

1177 ordinary events
100 CITO
72 L&F
33 Mega
12 BP
8 Giga
5 Maze

In sum that's 1407 visited events.

The difference is 12, that's the visited BP events that are nowhere counted for the badges.

As a host he's got 104 events for the badge, and 104 different events, including BP, on his owner page, so here they are accounted for. But only the CCE give him an add-on for the event host badge (and Mega and CITO), but not BP, that's only for visiting at the Geocacher badge.

1306 ordinary events

Number of FTFs per country

We really enjoy chasing FTFs and I love Project-GC statistics. What I feel is missing from the FTF statistics is a list of countries where we've already logged an FTF. Currently, there's only a visual map representation.

I’d love to see a table or list of countries with at least one FTF, including at least the number of FTFs per country and — optionally — what percentage of my total FTFs each country represents. In the Maps tab, there is at least some form of a list below the world/continent map, sorted from the highest number of (general) finds to the lowest.

Is there already a way to see this data somewhere on Project-GC? If not, I’d love to suggest it as a future improvement.

suggestion of the extreme area system

First of all, I know that some of the topics have already been covered in other topics, but I think that since I'm going to talk about several topics, I'll just mention them in one topic.

First of all, I congratulate you on this project as it creates yet another set of objectives to achieve. I know that the project is in its early stages, so new resources will appear, including those that I will mention below, but it doesn't hurt to suggest them.

I will suggest and number the topics that could improve the area extremes system:
1- As it already exists with the extremes found where clicking on the icon and the cache appears, there could be in those that we have not found, thus making the search easier (it could be the same as those we found or even a special search, as this way it could be easier to find even the areas that we do not have in any of the extremes found).

2- As it happens to some geocachers, even I am currently the owner of some cache in Extremos and for that reason the icon is like I need to find it, but as it is not possible to find the caches themselves, I think they could refer to this with an icon in another color, for example.

3- As there is already the highest altitude extreme, why the lowest altitude extreme?

4- There could be a filter that allows us to include caches that are archived or not, for example the filters that exist in the D\T graph of type\size

Extremes by area question

I've got a question regarding the southmost Cache of my hometown Bremen:

I found this one, that's officially the southmost cache here: https://coord.info/GC92PGX (Bremens Zipfelcache Süd), but it's not shown in my table.

I looked in the stats of a more veteran cacher from this area, and he's got the upwards arrow for this one: https://coord.info/GC2QD7D (Feuchtgebiet), an archived cache.

So far, so fine, it's archived since 7 years, before I was in that area.

But...

The north coordinates of the Zipfelcache are N 53° 00.858', while the north coordinates of Feuchtgebiet were N 53° 00.954', so I wonder, in which coordinates system .954 is farther south than .858. How comes, that this is not shown correctly?

Hidden date tool for caches of a specific size or type

Hi all,

in the "Profile Stats" of a cacher we have the "Finds by hidden date" calendar. One can select to show only finds of a certain size or type.

The link below to the "Hidden date tool" shows only missing finds of any size and type. In my case I have covered all dates. But I would like to see the caches that I am missing for example of the size "Micro" only. Is this possible? The "Cache type / size" filter seems not to do the trick.

Add 'Types' option to 'Number of Hidden months logged' statistic

The 'Number of Hidden months logged' statistic (here https://project-gc.com/Statistics/TopHiddenMonth) returns a figure for the overall number of months found.

I have taken an interest in Jasmer by Type, and there are some great tools in Project GC to support this. But I would like to be able to filter by type in the above statistic. I am one cache off a Traditional Jasmer, and would be able to apply a filter to see who else has achieved this.

The 'Add Filter' option only allows 'Profile name' and 'Only people from'. Could 'Type' be added?

Top #countries statistics shows 1 more country then actual value

Hi, for several months now I have noticed that Top #countries statistic is not showing correct number. In my case (therewolf) it is showing 1 more that what actual number is. I suspect that 1 locationsless (from USA) counts in that particular statistics, and I don't have USA as country.

Try this filter:
Project-GC - Top #countries

I have 33 countries, not 34 as stated there.
Could it be bug?

Signed challenges for another profile

Since the signed challenges are moved to a new page https://project-gc.com/Profile/SignedChallenges, I am not able to view the signed challenges of another user. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Update: On the challenges tab of the profile stats of other users, there is actually a link to to 'signed challenges' page. However, that links to my personal signed challenges page.

This is either a bug or a feature request - This link is not pointing to the correct user _or_ the I'd like to have the signed challenges page to be available for other profiles.

Background: When I plan a caching tour with friends, I'd like to see which challenges they have signed so I can plan caches on the tour to fulfill some of their challenes.

Why is this cache categorized as "Other" by geocaching.com, but "Not Chosen" by projectgc?

Statistics Progress - data not refreshing

As a paid Project-GC subscriber, I note that this "Progress Stats" screen is forever frozen at 20%. Is there something in my find data causing this hold-up? I did see this screen bringing up when I was much lower in the total counts (last year).

Challenge checker with Adventure Labs

According to the rules for creating challenge caches, it is not possible to create challenges related to waymarks, benchmarks, trackables and Adventure Lab (e.g. 366 days Adventure Lab challenge) (https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2016/05/return-of-challenge-caches/).
Is it then correct to count Adventure Lab finds towards the results of other challenge checkers?

Which actually counts the number of Adventure Lab finds towards the total number of finds and thus automatically adds additional loops.

Is there a chance to get certain locations into or out of when determining the percentage of visited parts of a country?

Or is this a thing where only the GC headquarter decides on?

In my observation I visited 100% of New Zealand when I was there in 2018. 2 years later I had to find out that I only had 2/3 of this country as there was unexpected some islands to be needed to visit and find there a cache. These islands are so small that they contain less than 1 per mille of the area of New Zealand. Why should it be necessary to go there to get 100% of NZ?

Challenges signed (but not yet logged as found) never seems to update

I'm not sure if this is a bug, or not; tagging in case it is.

I find the Challenges signed (but not yet logged as found) to be a great way to keep track of challenge caches I am working on.

However, it seems that it does not run the checkers for any of the challenges. The red "unqualified" mark only changes to the green "qualified" mark if I manually run the checker itself. There have been several times where I have lost track of a challenge that I qualify for, and this page never seems to update to a green check to let me know.

I previously left a challenge I knew I'd qualified for sit for several days to see if the page would update itself, but it never did until after I'd run the checker. Even then I think I had to wait a day or two.

Today's example:

I've been working on qualifying for GC9KJ1T for a while. This morning, I logged the last D/T combination I need to qualify, GC11NCM. I waited until this afternoon, to ensure that Project-GC "knew" that I had logged GC11NCM. It did - I can see it as the latest in my milestones.

When I go to the challenges tab, however, it still shows that I'm not qualified for GC9KJ1T.

Then I run the challenge checker, and, yes, I'm qualified.

Going back to the Challenges signed (but not yet logged as found), I refresh the page, and...it's still not showing I qualify.

When, if ever, does the system run the checkers on these challenges I have signed to see whether I qualify? Or must I always do it manually? Is this by design, or is this a bug?

Edit: 12 hours after posting this, and after refreshing the challenges tab twice again, I now see a green check. So, the process seems far from automatic.

Geocaching statistics per country and state

Is there a way to see the number of caches published by year going back to 2000? Also, is there a way to see the number of caches published by year within each state? I see the general overview page, but I was hoping for something that goes back further and also filters by area.

Top most image logs doesn't bring back the correct data

When I run the Statistics/Cache stats/Top most log images "script" against a bookmark list I have for some of my own caches, it's doesn't return the correct data.

First, some of my caches in my bookmark list are missing from the output and then the numbers of images it returns for some of the caches is also different than the actual number of pictures listed in the gallery of the cache on geocaching.com. Why is that?

I've tried to figure out if there is a pattern or some sort of consistent logic or reasoning for the differences but nothing stands out. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Or is this a bug?

I can easily see the regions from the countries I have founds from maps, but I'm lacking the overview and/or list of all the known regions in the world. Is regionthere any way of seeing this or potentially extracting this information thru cache checker script?

I would like to have data on the number of Challenge caches I have found in each country. Although I can derive this from the 'Challenges logged' section of my Challenges Profile Stats, it would be good to get it auto-generated. Maybe it is possible using one of the tools?

Groundspeak released a few new privacy options for geocaching.com like hiding location, hiding souvenirs and hiding the gallery.

Will hiding any part of the profile affect the PGC statistics?

I could imagine if you hide your gallery, PGC will be unable to calculate the shutterbug-badge, or not?

Why is there a date difference for Labcaches by Found date?

When I looked at my LabCaches statistics in Profile stats I found a discrepancy. The number of unique dates in the header is 84. But under the calender it says "82 found dates, out of 366 (22.4%)". What is the cause of this? Are these dates fetch from different sources? (82 corresponds with the calender shown.)

TB discovern and after 500 it stops?

I was able to have a look at a huge TB collection at an event recently and added over 600 TB codes to discover them - after 500 successful discoveries the tool stopped and hasn't continued for hours now. What could be the problem?

I was listening to the Geocaching Podcast this morning and they were talking about the number of finds they had in 2020. I actually had my second best year in 2020, but I bet it was my most traveled year with trips from California to Washington DC, Alaska, and Florida. That got me to thinking, it would be nice to see what my cache distance was by year. Is that something we can put in the statistics somewhere or even make a checker for it? I wouldn't mind making a challenge cache like travel so many miles in a year or so many miles over so many consecutive years.

The new Badgegen-Badges were initially unfamiliar to me, but now I like them quite a lot. So I thought to myself it would be nice, if I could buy a geocoin from all the diamond-badges, to collect them when i reach this award. Does anybody know, if there is something being planned from project-gc?

I was looking at my Who favours who? statistic just now, and noticed that in my cache count (for the statistic of how many FP's per cache I have) it includes my events, which are caches that you cannot receive FP's for.

For someone like me with a high-ish percentage of events in my total (42 total, 10 of which are events) that skews the statistic quite a bit.

Is it possible to exclude Events/CITO/CCE from this calculation to give a fairer representation of how liked your caches are?

Average distance from home of finds, per year

I'd be interested in knowing what the average distance of my finds from home is for each year since I started caching. I supect this year will be lower than usual, though I'd like to know by how much. Is there any way of doing this in PGC?

May I request a similar function for showing a last position of Trackables on the map - something like Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Geocaching for showing all owned TB of nickname on the map with pins. For example: I own 781 pcs of TB and I want to show it on the World map like a pins where are TBs at this time .Only a last position - no routes or points of travel.

If I download all KML files of every TB, than it contains about 130MB and no viewer like Google maps or Google Earth can show me a results. It takes a long time and I have to edit every TB to show only last position and disable view of travel road.

Can you design this feature for geocachers, please ?.

Hope we get some more news soon what that means in detail.
Do A-Labs get a GC code like LC or AL (AdventureLab) ? Do A-labcaches get coordinates and we get all the statistics like "normal" caches - like country, height, nearest...

Great would be an integration in all kinds of maps as we just could see normal caches AND an AdventureLab within a map.

Perhaps we all can collect some feature requests so it would be much easier for GC to fullfil some "like to have"

Owned cache count off on "The Cache Owner" Badge

I'm trying to understand what the cause might be for an incorrect count of owned caches in "The Cache Owner" Badge for my account.

I have 119 non-Lab cache hides on my profile, and 118 of those have finds. My PGC profile stats correctly show this number, but "The Cache Owner" Badge reports 115 hides.

Any idea why I might be seeing this disparity?

Counting of PCG points for Subscription

We are awarded points for using Project-GC in different ways. Like using Project-GC. The more you use Project-GC, the more points you get. Using the Community support system., etc etc.

I saw that I lost nearly 15 points end of 2019 within this Specification of Subscription within my points.

But how does the counting of Subscription work? By time, by year of Subscription?

Finds by year placed/Finds to xth for each year charts highlighting wrong year

I notice that there's now Finds by Year Placed and Finds to xth for each year bar charts that show as default over the pie charts.

However, the highlighted value (the value that shows your highest value on bar charts) is incorrect in that it's highlighting the first value in the chart, and not my highest value:

Why does BadgeGen remaining numbers show more after 'Diamond' level attained?

I have the Diamond level for 4 categories so far. 3 of them, Letterboxer, Environmental and Calendar, show that there are more required for the next level.

I have completed my Calendar with 366 days. It shows 646 in the 'Now' column and 86 (23%) in the remaining column. Please let me know what calendar you are using because if a year is 732 days long then I would like to be able to say I'm really 31 years old. [:D]

Letterboxer - Current 51, remaining 49 (98%)

Environmental - Current 14, remaining 10 (83%)

Diverse - Current 10, remaining '-' (I've actually found 15 different types plus lab caches)
