Issues sharing virtual gps with other paid members

I shared my virtual gps with a friend, he got the "conversation" that it was shared with him, but when he goes to view it by clicking on the link it gives him a completely different virtual gps with a different name and I don't have any virtual gps' with that name. He sent me a video showing me this weird issue, I could try to share if that would be helpful. And now I just had another friend tell me the same exact thing happened to her - a mutual friend shared a virutal gps with both of us. I had no issues getting to it and seeing it, but she could not get to it.

A follow up, I just went to a recent "conversation" and clicked on the link, it took me to a completely different virtual gps than the one in the shared "conversation". Tried again with a different "conversation" and it took me to the previous conversation's link. Its like the links do not match up with the conversations? Went to another older "conversation" and it also took me to a completely different virtual gps than the one it should have been tied to.

Let me know how I can help solve this issue.

An additional side note but it may be related, when I'm in virtual gps and I switch to a different virtual gps, the virtual gps up on the bar across the top of the page does not update to the new virtual gps I'm sitting on unless I refresh the page. I'll try to attach a photo, but I think I had issues doing so last time.

Map Compare will only show map, when the amound of caches are below 1500 (Milan Area)

Map-Compare will only show map, when the amound of caches are below 1500, when the amound is above 1500 the map area doesn't show anything (No map, or message).

Edit: This seems to be only in the milan area, due to an unusual cachename

In user profile stats page, https://project-gc.com/Profile/ProfileStats , in the last attributes section, among the negative attributes in the first table row there are attributes for:

Not a long hike ... what is above and greater than 10km , but image HTML title writes <10km
Not a medium hike ... what is less than 10km , but image HTML title writes >10km

But title for the images in the ProfileStats page has angle brackets (signs < and > ) is the opposite logic.

Bug in profile stats page link

On the profile stats page, https://project-gc.com/Statistics/ProfileStats, there is a link stating "Permanent link to this profile." When I click the link, it takes me to https://project-gc.com/ProfileStats/Optimist+on+the+run which returns the error "This profile does not exist."

The URL should not have the + signs in it.

UPDATE: Found Issue: Not currently able to map unfound caches when looking at county maps

The issue was that "exclude unfound" was checked, which meant it wasn't showing any unfound caches. Don't remember checking that, but unchecking it fixed the issue.

No caches are showing up when I go to map unfound caches while looking in the "Map Counties" section. I'm a paid member and logged in.

Virtual GPS - Delete List button doesn't work in Chrome

As of the rewriting of the Stats some effects are showing a strange behaviour on some challenge checkers.

For example: https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCAFDJQ/81866

It runs as good as before, but any icon at the start of a row seems to be min. 4 times the size it was before.

I can provide a screenshot of how the result of that particular checker was before.
Tried on different PCs with different browsers and different sizing of the browsers etc.

Edit : Another example where things are mixed up. https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8EY7F/45867 all icons seem normal except for the favorites

Edit 10.02.2026 : just checked the mentioned checkers again. Those with the attributes are fine now. The last added one with the favorite icons is still off.... and the icons behind the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges//101368 as well

My Project-GC dynamic html not updating on my gc.com profile page

Map Compare with multiple people breaks when changing geocache filters?

I'm trying to do a map compare with 4 other people. I set up the top with the other geocacher names. Then I go to add the criteria (counties, types, sizes) and after I hit submit it has reset the people I'm comparing to and only keeps the first person added. I have to go back in and add the additional people again to get the compare to work as needed.

As I'm attempting to do this again to document this for this post, now its not working at all. Even when I don't change the geocaching criteria in the second section and I go add the geocachers back and hit submit, its removing everyone but the first person I added

A CCE from Oct 8 appears on my "found event grid" but similar from 5 Dec is blank

When I try to delete a list using Safari, the pop up “This action cannot be undone YES-NO” does not pop up. I tried turning off the pop up blocker but that did not fix the problem. Any thoughts?

Inconsistencies in the counting of events

Project-GC is not coherent in regard of those special names for Events every 5 years:

On the events folder all are counted, although CCE are not counted as such but as "Lost and Found", a type of event I've never done. Block-Parties are counted as BP.

On the badge pages it's completely different:

CCE are counted as ordinary events for the badge
BP are not counted at all as events, neither ordinary nor, as they should, as Mega
Both event types give an add-on for the Geocacher badge, if you visit one
Only CCE gives an add-on for the Event Host badge, if you host one, BP doesn't

This topic has come up several times here, but nobody seems to care about this inconsistencies.

In the wiki they are not even mentioned, only as "Geocaching HQ Block Party (formerly Groundspeak Block Party)", so as a kind of historical event. I've asked about that on the article talk page.

The year is now half through, but nothing has happened in this regard, no consistent answer was given, just some insisting on "a special type" for BP, but that's the same with CCE, which are treated completely different.

Edit for a wee bit more information:

I just looked up the stats of a well known event host and -visitor in this area here, lavette96:

On the badge page he's got:

1249 ordinary events
100 CITO
33 Mega
8 Giga
5 Maze

In sum that's 1395 visited events.

On his events page he's got:

1177 ordinary events
100 CITO
72 L&F
33 Mega
12 BP
8 Giga
5 Maze

In sum that's 1407 visited events.

The difference is 12, that's the visited BP events that are nowhere counted for the badges.

As a host he's got 104 events for the badge, and 104 different events, including BP, on his owner page, so here they are accounted for. But only the CCE give him an add-on for the event host badge (and Mega and CITO), but not BP, that's only for visiting at the Geocacher badge.

Update for 2026:

I have a checker, https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC55AHK/920, that checks for cache owners that are members of a list stored within the checker - charter members. However it looks like it does not correctly process caches that are adopted.

For example, CherokeeThree has found https://coord.info/GCA3FC which was owned by Peter but is now owned by wreckdiver. When the checker is run for CherokeeThree it shows he has not found any of wreckdiver's caches.

The checker is correctly set to use the owner_id (as opposed to using placed_by) and so should be picking up wreckdiver as the owner.

Could you take a look please?

Extremes by area question

I've got a question regarding the southmost Cache of my hometown Bremen:

I found this one, that's officially the southmost cache here: https://coord.info/GC92PGX (Bremens Zipfelcache Süd), but it's not shown in my table.

I looked in the stats of a more veteran cacher from this area, and he's got the upwards arrow for this one: https://coord.info/GC2QD7D (Feuchtgebiet), an archived cache.

So far, so fine, it's archived since 7 years, before I was in that area.

But...

The north coordinates of the Zipfelcache are N 53° 00.858', while the north coordinates of Feuchtgebiet were N 53° 00.954', so I wonder, in which coordinates system .954 is farther south than .858. How comes, that this is not shown correctly?

Bug in Finds Tab vs. Events Tab or incomplete handling of data

Since the availability of the events tab in the profile stats I did not check for events in the finds tab but I think there is some kind of bug not taking into consideration all event types on the finds tab.

But let me explain:

Going to the Events tab of the profile stats you can see Attended by event date 366 matrix. This overview seems to incoporate all type of events no matter if the are GPS Maze, Event, Mega, Giga, CiTo, CCE etc.

This is what I expected.

However going to the Finds tab and going to the Finds by found date matrix you can select Events or CiTos, but all other types of events are not available in the type selection.

So this left we with the question:

- do we miss the options to select other non listed Event types

- should other (non CiTo) event types we summarized under the Event selection

- is this on purpose

- what will happen with the new batch of CCE Events and Blockparty in 2025

It might be that this is all on purpose and I am just not getting the idea behind it, but it crossed my mind for some time now.

MyFinds GPX produces all of my finds plus all of my owned caches

If you download the MyFinds GPX, it downloads all of my finds, correctly, as well as all of the events I've hosted, correctly. But it also downloads all of the physical and earthcaches that I own (trads, multis etc). This is incorrect. Oddly enough, not my own virtual.

Quite how to get caches I found and then adopted out of this list is probably more difficult, but thats easier to manage.

Live Map is not working for me in Seattle and Vancouver BC areas. I'm on Firefox on a Mac.

The wheel spins and no results. I know there are Large caches in Vancouver that I haven't found but none came up. I also know there are still a few Not Chosens in the Seattle area that I haven't found. None chowed up after the spinning stopped.

ich habe in meiner Profilstatistik einige Module deaktiviert. Aber ich habe jetzt zum wiederholten Male festgestellt, das die Deaktivierung nicht dauerhaft ist.

Warum, wieso und wann deaktivierte Module wieder aktiviert werden kann ich nicht sagen. Das habe ich bislang immer nur durch Zufall festgestellt. Ich weiß nur eines: Ich war es jedenfalls nicht.

On the Project-GC homepage; timestamps are presented and the claim "All timestamps in UTC (ISO 8601)", On wikipedia it states "Separating date and time parts with other characters such as space is not allowed in ISO 8601, but allowed in its profile RFC 3339.". Project-GC is using a space to separate date and time parts; therefore cannot claim to be ISO 8601 compliant.

If a user has not yet verified their email address, attempting to search the Rescue Map results in unhelpful error messages. There is no indication that the problem is that they have not yet verified their email address. If that is required, search should be disabled and the user should be prompted to verify first.

Again having opted in to an TB Rescue mission, wanting to set the result by "create log" which opens a radio selection, a textarea for commenting combined with a button "create log". On neither (mobile) device the textarea can be selected for typing and (thus) create log (with only radio option selected) is not possible.

Hides tab showing wrong find count despite refresh

One of my caches, GC4M2A5, has recently had a decrease in the number of finders. I think this was due to one of the finders deleting their account. According to the cache page, there are now 49 find logs, however PGC still shows this at 50. I've done a self-service refresh of that cache and all my hides, and waited a couple of days but it still shows the wrong count. Is there any other way to recalculate this?

Issue with HTML generation of checkers without a GC code set

This is a fairly niche bug that most users will likely never encounter.

When a checker is created without a GC code set, it defaults to a displayed GC code of "?". However, this causes problems for the HTML link generation, since the format for a Challenge Checker link is project-gc.com/Challenges/{gc_code}/{tag_id}: the {gc_code} becomes "?", meaning that the URL becomes project-gc.com/Challenges/?/12345 and thus the tag ID gets interpreted as if it were a GET/query parameter. This is undesirable.

Demo/Steps for Reproduction

(1) Create a checker with no associated GC#. Locate it on the "My scripts and tags" page, or on the associated script's tags.

(2) Click the "Link" button to generate HTML.

(3) Notice that the generated HTML, as well as the Example link on the left, contain a "?" in the URL. This causes the URL to be interpreted as if it contained GET/query parameters.

Reason to Fix

Currently, in order to get from the "My scripts and tags" page to a particular checker's webpage, one needs to:

(1) Click the "Edit" button to open the script associated with the tag.

(2) Scroll and/or Control-F to locate the tag.

(3) Click the "Use checker" button to open the checker's page.

This is far too many clicks/scrolling for me. So, instead, when I need to open a checker page, I simply use the "Link" button to generate HTML, and then click one of the links that generates on the left.

Normally, the checker has a GC code set, so this takes me right to the checker page. But (as above) if the checker has no GC code, then it becomes "?" and messes up the URL. So then I need to go manually fix it to get to the checker page.

This was starting to get somewhat annoying, so I am now formally filing this report...

Advanced search not working with selection "extended" for location

I struggled since some days to get any results from the advanced search page:

My intention is to search caches in a certain area (using the Location field (Region, County, Country)) and with certain word in the cache description (using the cache description field).

Example:
Location= Nordrhein-Westfalen
Cache description= Trail

It always returns an "UNKNOWN ERROR".

After trying several things I changed the search mode for the location field from "Extended" to "Exact" and now its working.

This looks a bit like a bug or I don't understand how the "Extended" mode works.

Bug: Caches with identical coords in map compare

I have found a bug in Map Compare and probably a host of other maps as well, in that if two caches have identical coordinates, while both show on the map (except that you can't tell as the cache icon perfectly overlaps, but I could tell as one has a found smiley in the corner masked by the cache icon above it), when clicking on the icon we get a popup identifying only one of the caches and cannot click on the other. Perhaps add a "next" link so we can pick up the details of the other? Or multiple clicks on one cache icon cycles through caches at that coordinate? (and while about it, make it fuzzy - cycles through cache icons that overlap).

Caches can have identical coordinates if they are different types, eg multi and traditional, or if one is archived.

Why is there a difference in the number of photos in my profile stats?

According to my Profile Stats, on the BadgeGen tab, under Belt Information, I've uploaded 339 photos to my found logs, but yet if I look under Badge Information (on the same tab), The Shutterbug stat shows 344.

Why is there a difference? Which is correct?

Mozilla Thunderbird and the Windows Calendar can't import these files, because they seem to be broken.

Bug: Incorrect total cache counts

Where a report or query is constructed solely from total cache finds, ie where it cannot be modified by country, difficulty, type, etc, then the report should include ALL cache finds. Lab caches should be included.

These reports cannot be modified to include parameters that lab caches do not support so should include lab caches:

Statistics > Stat Compare: Finds, Finds this year, Caching days, Longest Streak, Most finds in one day, Most finds in one month, Most cache types in one day.

Statistics > Over time > Logs over time

When I try to execute "Top Favorite Caches (%)" or "Top Favorite Caches (Lower bound of Wilson score)" I get a browser-popup with the Message "Unkown Error". I tried it in firefox and edge. Has anybody else the same problem?

Total - Sometimes includes lab caches, sometimes not. Affects all badges & stats

In the last month, sometimes I log on (I am a paying member) I get your total is 4000 caches plus 500 lab caches. Total 4500 caches. BUT sometimes it says your total is 4500 caches which includes 500 lab caches. This second wording has appeared recently.

When it is in the former, older, setting it doesn't show the ad lab badge, it shown number of cache type finds in a day as 6 and gives the stat number of belt points as 40 towards my caching belt.

If it is the second type I get the ad lab badge appear. Cache types found in a day is 7 and I get 45 points towards the belt. So, this makes quite a difference!

I like the second all-inclusive type of count - after all this is how many caches I have found. Why doesn't it stay that way??

Under Profile Stats / Hides / Owned caches statistics / Owned: events are included in the archived stats. This gives a false perception of the CO's caches, as events are automatically archived after 30 days of the event. Take for example a CO that has 1 hide and had 50 events. His 1 singular hide is still active, thus his archived caches is 0.00%, but with your algorithm he has 98% of his caches archived. This places a bad reflection on the CO. In my case I have 227 hides and 58 events. Of my hides only 27 have been archived, thus 27/227 = 11.8% but you give me 29.82% because of automatically archived events. Please consider adapting your algorithm to exclude events from this stat

Mais cela ne m'éclaire pas beaucoup.

Par exemple : j'ai fait une sortie en foret (33 caches) j'ai bien du réaliser 25 à 30 photos. Mais à la fin de la semaine seulement 8 sont comptabilisée. Toutes les caches sont des traditionnelles, dont une multi)

Hej träffade magma1447 i kväll och fick tips om hur man använder polygonverktyget för att lägga till Challenge cacher från kartan till den virtuella gpsen. men fast jag klickat ur mina hittade så kommer de i alla fall med i filen. Bug - Map Compare Filters Sticking

I have noticed in map compare several of the filters will remain even after they are removed from a search. Specifically custom filters, show disabled/archived, and possibly others. The filters will not show as visible on the map compare page but when you hit "filter" to display results, they will show up in the search.

Then when you navigate back to the previous page, they will be visible on the map compare page. Sometimes you have to go back and forth 2-3 times between pages before the filters are gone.

Problem with Checker for GC9DRAR and Map and Virtual GPS

The checker for GC9DRAR gives good results. It shows I've found 105 of the required 100. I'd like to load those 105 into the Virtual GPS. On the Map at the bottom of the results page, I select the draw polygon button and draw a line around all (or some) of the 105 caches shown on the map. Then I select the "add to Virtual GPS" button.... but nothing happens. This same functionality seems to still work fine for me on the Map Challenge Caches page.... but not on this checker. Is it supposed to work the same, or is this a bug that can be fixed?

I am calling this a bug although in actual fact it is an feature enhancement request.

In Statistics > Profile > Stat Compare the Finds count is wildly wrong.

The way to fix the bug is, of course, to include all finds (ie, include lab finds) in this one stat, or at very least to have a note added at the top that labs finds are not included in the stats on this page.

Bug: FTF tags within encoded logs

I have a FtF that is not showing up in my "FTF List" on PGC and I suspect that this is because the tag is contained within the [don't encrypt this text] portion of the encrypted log.

If I add {SgS} outside of the [don't encrypt this text] section then it gets encrypted to {FtF} as expected and passed to PGC and all is well with my count :)
But {FtF} inside the [don't encrypt this text] section doesn't work.

The FTF List page says "...tag your logs with one of these tags: {*FTF*} {FTF} [FTF]".
Is this last tag with square brackets part of the problem with respect to the [don't encrypt this text] section using square brackets as well?

TB Rescue map fails to open popup when called from mail link

Once I receive a information mail regarding a travelbug needing rescue and I follow the link in that mail, I am unable to open the mission details. Simply nothing happens when tapping on the "rescue mission" button.

I think I found the reason:

When using the mail link https://project-gc.com/Tools/TBRescue#4105 its does not work to open details.
Once I open the rescue map via the normal link https://project-gc.com/Tools/TBRescue it works.
