Custom lists

Hi

I am trying to set up a custom list to place in the milestones tab
I have gone through the process of naming, selecting the tab (milestones) and selecting bookmark list for the type - selecting which bookmark I want as the source (having put my ID in that section too)
I then clicked on submit and then save

Nothing - all that appears is a heading banner (with what I named ) but no cache list - shows '0'
I am aware of others do the same list and advising that their list populated straight away
I also waited a day once submitted and saved to see if waiting would help - but still no
I did consider the bookmark list status as a possible barrier so have tried this with the bookmark list set at private, shareable and public and it didn't work with any of these

I also tried by using the GC code list (copy paste comma seperated list into the box) but this came up with an error message every time -
Internal server error (6998be7ee19c07.70822645)

Though the last bit changed each time I tried that.

Though the bookmark list would be the better way to go as having to update the GC list would be more faff

I am not sure what I am doing wrong here - if anything

*Edit* - having tried several times to get this working, the day after I wrote this post I tried again and this time it worked - possibly a brief glitch, but now sorted

Should Locationless caches count for a countries most found/favorited?

Looking over the section of the stats where it lists the countries/states/counties you've been in and if you've found the most found, favorited, highest/lowest etc... the "Where's 25" location less cache keeps popping up for the US. Below this section it states that location less caches are ignored in some instances. Shouldn't this be one of them?

Checkers on older challenges

I have come across several older challenges of late where in the description there is no checker (not required back in the day) - but you look through logs and you see the phrase
XXXXX has used Project-GC to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did. you click on the 'Project-GC' link and it takes you to the checker Well that makes it easier - only to find that the checker output doesn't quite fulfil the challenge criteria as laid out in the description.

One example
You had to find a number of caches consecutively so that the D ratings of those caches addd up to a certain number as well as the T ratings doing the same (though you only add the Ts to the other Ts - it isnt a mixed addition) - however part of the criteria is you had to indicate when you were starting the challenge with an 'intention log' (this was not uncommon back in the day and isn't used nowadays) and only finds after that counted. This was specifically laid out in the criteria

Yet the checker searches your whole caching activity and in most instances when the checker was used a list of caches long before their intention log is provided.
For me - I added an intention log in 2018 before there was a checker created for this one and now the checker output lists caches back in 2005. So that list would not fulfil the challenge criteria as set out - however it is being used for found logs

In this instance the CO had not requested the checker nor did he get asked to verify it - to the point that he has now had to waver the intention aspect of the challenge thus changing the original challenge criteria.
Now where the output does fulfil most of the challenge requirements, I am aware the checker can not include a specified date (changeable for each cacher) to enable that aspect of the criteria to be fulfilled.
So - before anyone wants to respond ... If this happens then the CO should check the checker output once they realise one has been created and challenge it if it is wrong - I agree and in many cases where a checker has been created / requested by a third party a CO has spotted it and in some instances has even said on the cache page - there is one but it is wrong or whatever - but this has not always happened as not all COs read every log that comes in and so may not be aware that a checker has been created. Yes, COs should be aware but it doesn't always work like that. So my main point here is - when a checker request comes in to PGC on older challenges (pre moratorium) by someone other than the CO which I am sure will continue to happen though not as much as they used to - can there be a request/requirement to involve the CO to ensure the checker that is created does fulfil the criteria as they have set out

List My Finds in chronological & log posted order, with Find number?

Hi PGC community!

Question:

Is there a method to list My Finds in chronological & log posted order, with Find number?

Long background: I want to create a list of My Finds, in chronological order, WITH the Find number for each geocache included in this list: My very first find is numbered #1, and my latest find is numbered equal to my total finds (- AL stage finds), and everything in between is numbered accordingly. One can with a quick glance, view which geocache was their ###th find. I can't seem to find anything that will show such information easily, online nor by geocaching software. (Note: I am a Mac. GSAK is foreign to me.)

I know that there is List finds (not a checker) (by sumbloke) available on PGC to list all your finds, newest to oldest, but only somewhat. The issue with this is that all the finds within the same date, are NOT sorted in the order that they were logged as Found.

I just found out that within the official My Find PQ, each log has it's own unique ID <groundspeak:log id="#######"> which seems that the number increases as new log are posted on geocaching.com. Sorting all Finds by this Log ID (fields (array): log_id ?), would possibly list all geocache Finds in the true chronological order they were posted, I assume. But, I am not a programer/coder/scriptwriter, so I definitely could be totally wrong here, and do not know how I can accomplish what I want to do.

Can this be done?

Can the source code of List finds (not a checker) (by sumbloke) be edited to include the Log ID as well?

Geocacher's very first find percentage of your geocaches?

Hi all,

Just wondering after receiving a Found log message of my geocache saying it's their very first geocache find. Since all your own geocache's information is analyzed, and that a lot of geocachers' stats are also analyzed here:

Can it be calculated how many geocachers have made their very first geocache find, per a certain geocache of your own, or even others?

If one out of 100 geocachers made their very first find with your geocache, it would be 1% of whatever-called unit, like "MVFF My Very First Find", something like a beginner's geocache hider rating/index? One's very first geocache find would always be remembered, and is always displayed as a Milestone #1 in everyone's geocaching stats.

Yes, I understand that Favorite Points could be used for beginner's geocache index, yet this is a Premium member-only feature, and almost no beginner would have Premium membership from the start and also one would need at least ten (10) finds to earn a Favorite point to give out, and then have to give back retroactively. Yes, D/T rating is another parameter for beginners to use, and lower the D/T rating the more easier to find.

I think this would be another good stats information for proud geocache owners, like the Caching karma and FP h-index here. This ratio could be used to 'lure' and eventually 'hook' new geocachers, while rewarding the geocache owner with assurance.

The issue I can see is that each geocache does not hold each and every geocacher's very first find records as the Find count for everyone in the geocache page would be updated as they find new ones. This information is only associated to each geocacher's stats, yet it is not fed back to the geocache owners, me think. This is where Project-GC could help, with all the geocaching numbers are crunched here all the time.

Who does not love reading logs saying "Found my first geocache!" of your own geocache?

And, I would love to know how many geocacher have found their very first geocaches with my own and easily, without reading through ALL the Found logs. ;)

Limiting upvoting discourages valuable feedback from new users and encourages duplicate questions just to achieve enough reputation points.
I have been a paid subscriber for a number of years but have not been very active on the forum.
Why should that be required to give feedback?
IMO, everyone should be able to upvote issues but at least paying customers should have that ability.

Today I attempted to upvote a great suggestion but could not do so because my 120 reputation is below the unclear threshold (130?):

project-gc is a great toolkit but the certain UI features are very non-intuitive. Most notably, the filters on region and county maps do not behave in an expected manner.

I found this excellent suggestion but it may languish unheeded if only those with reputation can upvote it.

Some strings missing on Crowdin

In connection with some changes on website there are some strings missing on Crowdin and therefore they are'nt translated here on PGC.

E.g. footer under badge stats https://project-gc.com/Statistics/ProfileStats#Badges or Category names on Souvenirs tab (https://project-gc.com/Statistics/ProfileStats#Souvenirs).

Do you plan to upload them on Crowdin for translation or are these strings managed other way?

Are there any statistics related to continents cached on?

I'm curious to know how many people have cached on all 7 continents. I'm currently on 6 myself with tentative plans for Antarctica, though not anytime soon. If I make it I'd be interested to know haw select a group of cachers I'd be joining.

Is there any chance the heading for the lower list currently headed
"Challenges signed (but not yet logged as found)"
be changed to
"Challenges with a note added"

as the majority of my list are NOT signed caches (I have 174 in the list - and probably only 10 of those are signed but yet to qualify)
I am sure I am not alone with this as I know many cachers have checked various challenges around their own country and added notes with their qualifying lists and these appear on this list - thus the opposite of the current heading.

My list in fact consists of 3 categories
1. Signed but not qualified
2. Qualified but not found (note added with qualifying list)
3. My own caches - various notes added over time

Thus the current search is not disseminating to just 1. which is the heading category.

Language translation to English (UK) is now finished

I just thought I'd note that I've finished going through the language file for English (UK) and translating it from English (US). There was quite a bit more needed changing than I thought there would be - mostly just changes from American spelling to British spelling. It's taken me about two weeks to do so, and I've noticed that some of the early changes I made have already been incorporated into the site, which is great to see! :)

I don't think I've missed anything, although I probably have. I'll keep an eye out and make any further changes that I notice need doing.

I have noticed though, that 'The Favorite Cacher' on the BadgeGen tab can't be translated (to 'The Favourite Cacher'), presumably because the author of BadgeGen wants all the badge names to be kept in English. Oh well.

Not a question, just a comment:

Just after Christmas, I created a public bookmark on geocaching.com to list all events in the UK and Ireland scheduled to take place on leap day. At the time I thought, perhaps naively, that there wouldn't be more than a dozen or so. However the number soon exceeded that, and I realised it would not be practical to maintain the list manually.

Fortunately I stumbled across the Coming Events tool, and I realised I could use this. I set the filter to list all events type in multiple locations (UK/Ireland/Jersey/Guernsey/Isle of Man) hidden from 2016/02/29 to 2016/02/29. This gave a list which I could transfer to a new VGPS list. Finally, I could export that to my bookmark list. This only takes a couple of minutes, since the Coming Events filter remembers my choices from last time, so I go through the process a couple of times a day to keep the bookmark list up to date.

I post this in case anyone fancies trying this for their own country or state, and to say thanks for providing these excellent tools.

Incidentally, the present total of events is 122!

New Checker: Spell with different parameter value per word

Terrible title, but I could not think of anything better. Used for spelling a phrase where each word of the phrase is a different value of cache parameter. Different type, terrain, size or difficulty. So for instance, "Lets climb hills" where you spell "Lets" with terrain 1.0 caches, "climb" with terrain 2.0 and "hills" with terrain 3.0.

In our continued effort to increase site security and promote cross platform compatibility, we will be removing support for HTML and UBB code in logs in favor of Markdown on February 2, 2016. These codes are used to add emphasis to text such as bold or italic type, or to add links to websites. HTML and UBB code may not always look exactly as you intended them to on some devices, while Markdown will consistently look good across all devices.

Checker authors will need to check their challenge code to remove html from any components that would be copy-and-pasted into logs.

In the German state North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) we have a nice series of caches called "NRW 53 Challenge". One cache in each of the 53 counties/county-level cities in NRW plus bonus cache are planned. There are 20 in the moment.

They have different owners, most of them are mysteries. Since they are called "NRW 53 Challenge #Kreis xxxx" (xxxx for the name of each county/city, e.g. "Bonn") they of course all come up in the challenge map on PGC.

What I personally do not like is the idea to create challenge checkers for most of them, which was done by user "c0re" who tagged the script "Not really a challenge (by SeekerSupreme)" to

Map correction: The Netherlands has one county that is in fact Belgium.

Baarle-Hertog is shown as a Dutch county, but is really a Belgium county. There is however a problem some dutch caches are shown in Baarle-Hertog but should be shown in Baarle-Nassau. This is caused by the small parts of Belgium as enclaves inside The Netherlands.

involves: find cache in five states in one day, 5 different types of cache in a day, 5 mystery (or puzzle) on a day, 5 Traditional Geocache in a day, and five “Norgesboksen 50 Cacher” in a day (GC50WVR). I have been searching for a checker to add up ATTRIBUTES that equal or more than 2,415 KM, using the three attributes and counting them to equal it or more, which means adding up X number of certain attributes and then equals Y number of KM.

I've made checker that counts founds or number of different cache types in given polygon or list of polygons.The polygon(s) is defined in config or in json database. You can create the polygon with google maps and extract it from the kml file.

The founds can be limited by allowed or disallowed types. The output can be personalized in config, like "logTitle": "I have found __nrfounds__ caches on peninsula of Bibione:"

New checker: Country, region, continent combination checker

I have a new checker that allows you to check for various combinations of number of countries, number of regions, number of regions in a certain set of countries etc.

I've also added continent definitions (there are a few iffy ones: Russia, Turkey), so you can check for number of continents found.

Check it out, and let me know if you need some updates to work with a specific challenge. I'll probably add counties at some point if necessary.

I'm looking for someone to write a date range/month/year checker.

The checker is for a series of 9 challenges, one for each year from 2006 to 2014. It would actually have to be 9 checkers however only the year would need to change in each one so just one template is required. The challenges require that the following criteria are met:

One cache placed in each of the first 4 weeks of each month i.e.:

1^st - 7^th of each month,

8th - 14^th of each month,

15th - 21st of each month,

22nd - 28^th of each month.

Cache 49 must have been hidden on either 29^th, 30^th or 31^st of January, February or March.

Cache 50 must have been hidden on either 29^th, 30^th or 31^st of April, May or June.

Cache 51 must have been hidden on either 29^th, 30^th or 31^st of July, August or September.

Cache 52 must have been hidden on either 29^th, 30^th or 31^st of October, November or December.

New checker: Words in word list

A new checker: Words from Word list in Title Checker.

Cumbersome title I know. It was written to solve a bunch of challenges where you have to find a cache that has a word matching a word in a list, and a number of lists, one cache per list.

For example, music albums. Each list is a song title (or the significant words from a title) and you need to find a cache for each song.

Caters for blanks (eg because a song title is an obscure word that wont be in a cache name), can be limited to country and region/state, and can exclude cache types.

Currently being tagged to about 20 challenges (an album series and a box of crayon series)

I have modified my Generic Spell with different <parameter> checker. Now, as well as spelling a word using the first letter of cache names, where each cache must be a different type, size, terrain, difficulty, region or country, we can now spell words from the first letter of cache names where each cache must be placed by different owners. A great way to make a tribute challenge! (you can also limit the script to a particular country or region)

As someone who tags checkers to caches, I have found that many checkers have poor documentation as to what parameters they support. Either I have to hunt through the code to work out if something is supported, or hope I can find another tag that shows what I need.

Please fully document your options, at least put a summary in the checker description and full details at the top of the code (use --[[ ]]-- to comment out a number of lines)

And if you haven't already, please check your existing checkers and add the documentation.

It will make tagging a LOT easier!

New Checker: Generic spell with different

I have modified my Generic spell with different cache types checker. If you do not specify a parameter, it defaults to a spell with caches of different types, but now you can do geonic or word spells with different terrains, difficulty, countries, sizes - in fact any standard cache parameter except attributes.

Also
Option to remove spaces and punctuation for name checks, so B. Family only have to spell BFamily.
Option to remove accents so Â, Ã, Ä, Å, Æ all match to A
Can limit to finds in just one country/region/county.
Can exclude cache types, as many as you want, eg Exclude Locationless Caches.

So... go make a Spell GEOCACHES using geocaches of different terrains Challenge!

You can find it by searching under tools/challenge checkers/Find checker. Specify no country and search for spell type terrain (or anything else that seems sensible!)
