It is is very much related.

We will change our approach. Currently we have issues with many various alphabets. I have updated the code, but it most likely won't go live until next week. And after that we have 1-1,5 billion logs to recalculate the log length on, which will take weeks.

At least a solution is coming.

PS! Good find with the related topic. Though I actually had it back in my head myself already when I read "log length" and "Greek". For once I had a decent memory of things. :)

Challenge checkers - new display kind of tooo large?

As of the rewriting of the Stats some effects are showing a strange behaviour on some challenge checkers.

For example: https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GCAFDJQ/81866

It runs as good as before, but any icon at the start of a row seems to be min. 4 times the size it was before.

I can provide a screenshot of how the result of that particular checker was before.
Tried on different PCs with different browsers and different sizing of the browsers etc.

Edit : Another example where things are mixed up. https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8EY7F/45867 all icons seem normal except for the favorites

Edit 10.02.2026 : just checked the mentioned checkers again. Those with the attributes are fine now. The last added one with the favorite icons is still off.... and the icons behind the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges//101368 as well

Project-GC's translations are user-contributed at http://translate.project-gc.com/. For example, a German translation for "Finds by difficulty" is missing because it has not been contributed by any German-speaking user:

Map Compare with multiple people breaks when changing geocache filters?

I'm trying to do a map compare with 4 other people. I set up the top with the other geocacher names. Then I go to add the criteria (counties, types, sizes) and after I hit submit it has reset the people I'm comparing to and only keeps the first person added. I have to go back in and add the additional people again to get the compare to work as needed.

As I'm attempting to do this again to document this for this post, now its not working at all. Even when I don't change the geocaching criteria in the second section and I go add the geocachers back and hit submit, its removing everyone but the first person I added

The issue has, in theory, been fixed in our end of things. It was an subtle issue with the German translation which has now been corrected. It will become available on the website shortly. You will have to visit:

Beide diese Checker sind mit GCABDQ5 getagged, und dafür zeigt das Addon beide. Das ist korrekt. Einer von diesem Checkers sollte nicht so getagged sein, aber dass muss vom Tagger korrigiert werden. Du musst mit ihm sprechen.

Where on the site are you not seeing these finds? When I check your profile stats and map compare you have three finds in Colombia and you have three finds in Colombia on geocaching.com, so I can't find any discrepancy between the two sites.

I would suggest testing these things:

Clear cookies in you browser (https://support.apple.com/en-us/105082)
Did you click the link from an app? Try visiting it directly in your browser instead.
Did you click the link in the browser? Try visiting it from an app instead.
Do you have the same issue if you try a different device?

Testing like this would help you figure out were things are going wrong. As you've managed to write in the forums it seems like the issue should be with your phone and not with your account.

For some reason, the most northerly cache in Austria, according to the NESW/Oldest tool, is actually the multicache GCBF36R, with starting coordinates in Finland. I have no idea if the final is in Austria or not, but it seems like the country is incorrect in the cache listing.

This is not a bug. You are using the "Published date" filter, meaning that a geocache hidden on 2000-12-31 (a year before) but published not until a couple days later is included, and counts towards an extra month.

The issue is that you need to add the cache type to both the pre-filter and the post-filter to get the result you are looking for. The link shows you unknown caches that will fill the hidden date of a calendar with all cache types, and since there are no such holes the result will be zero caches.

Project-GC can't take in to consideration what borders other sites/apps choose to use. The only cache you have relatively close to the Saalekreis-border that isn't a cache in a county with only one find is https://coord.info/GC4WP8J and considering the fact that it's 300meter from the border it's not even anything I would consider an edge-case, it's clearly not in the county you/Cachly say it is.

According to Project-GC, GC3VGHX is in Prince Edwards Island. This is determined by looking at the coordinates for the cache and map data. Similarly, GC9DN1W is in Alberta. For both these (and any other cache), the cache owner may have stated something else. This is outside our control.

Inconsistencies in the counting of events

Project-GC is not coherent in regard of those special names for Events every 5 years:

On the events folder all are counted, although CCE are not counted as such but as "Lost and Found", a type of event I've never done. Block-Parties are counted as BP.

On the badge pages it's completely different:

CCE are counted as ordinary events for the badge
BP are not counted at all as events, neither ordinary nor, as they should, as Mega
Both event types give an add-on for the Geocacher badge, if you visit one
Only CCE gives an add-on for the Event Host badge, if you host one, BP doesn't

This topic has come up several times here, but nobody seems to care about this inconsistencies.

In the wiki they are not even mentioned, only as "Geocaching HQ Block Party (formerly Groundspeak Block Party)", so as a kind of historical event. I've asked about that on the article talk page.

The year is now half through, but nothing has happened in this regard, no consistent answer was given, just some insisting on "a special type" for BP, but that's the same with CCE, which are treated completely different.

Edit for a wee bit more information:

I just looked up the stats of a well known event host and -visitor in this area here, lavette96:

On the badge page he's got:

1249 ordinary events
100 CITO
33 Mega
8 Giga
5 Maze

In sum that's 1395 visited events.

On his events page he's got:

1177 ordinary events
100 CITO
72 L&F
33 Mega
12 BP
8 Giga
5 Maze

In sum that's 1407 visited events.

The difference is 12, that's the visited BP events that are nowhere counted for the badges.

As a host he's got 104 events for the badge, and 104 different events, including BP, on his owner page, so here they are accounted for. But only the CCE give him an add-on for the event host badge (and Mega and CITO), but not BP, that's only for visiting at the Geocacher badge.

Update for 2026:

1210 ordinary events
108 CITO
96 L&F
34 Mega
18 BP
8 Giga
5 Maze

Sum is 1479

badge page:

1306 ordinary events
108 CITO
34 Mega
8 Giga
5 Maze

Sum is 1461

Difference is 18, and that's Blockparties, that are nowhere counted in the badges, as before.

Thanks. We can't do anything about the Wiki pages yet.

We need to upgrade the wiki engine for it to work with the setup we use for Staging. But that would make database changes that would make it incompatible with the current Production environment.

For various reasons we can't upgrade the production environment either. It's a bit of a catch 22.

So basically we will release the new site with a broken wiki engine, and try to fix it within a few hours.
