The '''Milestones tab''' is a tab in a user's [[Profile Stats]]. As the name suggest, this tab shows a user's milestones. This tab has four [[module]]s.

== Milestones ==
The first module shows a list of the user's milestones. The first milestones are 1, 10, 50 and 100 caches, after that and up to 1000 caches every hundredth cache is considered a milestone. Between 1000 and 5000 caches every five hundredth cache is considered a milestone, and beyond that every thousandth cache is listed. At the bottom of the list the users most recent cache is shown, even if it is not a milestone.

=== Order ===
Project-GC orders the logs by three fields in ascending order.
# The date of the found log.
# The full timestamp of when the log was created.
# The ID of the log. Since logs of geocaches and logs of lab caches are from different systems their log-ids are not compatible. In this case labs are sorted last. But this will only be an issue if a log for a geocache is created on the same second as one for a lab cache.

Before 2024-02-19 Project-GC sorted the milestones based on log dates and log-ids only. Lab caches were always sorted last on every day.

=== Different milestones at Project-GC vs Geocaching.com ===

The milestones on this tab may not match the milestones shown in the user's Geocaching.com profile for multiple reasons. The milestones at Project-GC are calculated and not fetched from Geocaching.com. At Geocaching.com, the user can chose to lock their milestones to a specific cache even if it's not the milestone that is calculated by Geocaching.com, this is not possible to do at Project-GC. Geocaching.com also includes retracted geocaches, which aren't even known to Project-GC. This should not be an issue in the future since new guidelines say that logged geocaches shouldn't be retracted (but the effect for previous loggers of already-retracted cacher will remain, though).

This module shows which [[extremes]] has been found. In simple terms extremes refers to attributes like most western, highest, most favorite points and so forth.

By clicking the arrows in the first column one can expand a country to show data per region, if such data exists. By clicking the arrow once more the view switches to showing counties.

The current extremes are:
* Most finds
* Most favorited
* Highest [[Wilson score]]
* Oldest
* Most central
* Most northern
* Most eastern
* Most southern
* Most western
* Most central
* Highest

Which geocache is an extreme is determined by finding the current most extreme in its field. For example the most western one. Current meaning a none archived. Then that geocache, all geocaches that are on that coordinate, or further west, including archived, are counted as "most western". This means that there may be multiple geocaches counting as "the most western", both archived and none archived. The concept also means that you can lose an icon if a geocache is published further west in the future.

At the bottom of the module there is a summary.

Note that the module shows '''finds'''. If you own the extreme yourself you can't log it, and therefore can't achieve the icon, by modern geocaching standards.

===Loop===
The [[loop]] filter is a numbers field use to search for the next loop in a tool that supports loop. For example if a user has already filled their [[calendar]] grid they can use the loop filter set to two on the [[NeededFoundDates|Needed Found Dates]] to start working on the second loop.

===Max number of geocaches===
This filter allows some top lists based on hides to limit the number of caches used per owner. For instance, in the [[TopLogsReceived|Logs Received]] top list, if you set max number of geocaches to 2, only the top 2 most logged caches from each owner will count to the total.

===Route===
This filter allows some tools to only output caches within a certain distance from a specified linear route, as specified in the [[RouteBuilder|Route Builder]] tool. This filter is a feature for users with [[paid membership]].

===Show===
This is a filter available on the [[map of challenge caches]] tool, and it allows the user to view only the challenge caches that have, or do not have, a Project-GC [[Challenge checker]] available. If the 'show all' option is ticked, then the filter can be toggled on and off while viewing the map.

== General information ==

This is an expression used by [[Profile stats]] module [[Finds_tab#Extremes_by_area|Extremes by area]]

In simple terms "extremes" refers to attributes like most western, highest, most favorite points and so forth.

Some of the below are affected by the setting for [[Antipode cache]]s.

== Calculation ==

Which geocache is an extreme is determined by finding the current most extreme in its field. For example the most western one. Current meaning a none archived, but potentially disabled. Then that geocache, all geocaches that are on that coordinate, or further west, including archived, are counted as "most western". This means that there may be multiple geocaches counting as "the most western", both archived and none archived.

Various event types are excluded since the events aren't meant to be "permanent".

A tool to provide the extremes in a given county, region or country is availble [https://project-gc.com/Tools/MapExtremes here]. It is possible to select multiple counties within the same region or country, in which case the extremes for all selected counties are given.

This is based on the [[hidden date]] fields, as opposed to the [[publish date]] field. There is also a hard-coded minimum month to minimize the risk of fabricated data.

=== Most central ===

The most central geocache in the area, based on geographical data (not demographical data). The central point of an area can be counted in several ways. With this fact in mind it is very likely that Project-GC's central point may not match what's commonly known. Project-GC has implemented what they believe is the most correct way to calculate it.

Project-GC uses its polygon data and then calculates a centroid using the GIS function [https://postgis.net/docs/ST_Centroid.html ST_Centroid].

Various reasons why Project-GC's center might not match other definitions:

* Project-GC calculates a Centroid. Other methods might use the center of a bounding box for example.
* Project-GC uses the polygon data it has for the area. This data might not match the data used by others.
* Project-GC uses country definitions as [[Geocaching.com]] has them. In some cases it means that islands belonging to a country does not.
* Many commonly known centers are based on very old calculations, which are less precise than we can do with today's computers.
* Some commonly known centers has been calculated by compacting the areas by removing all sea water and "moving islands" onto mainland.
* Different handling of the fact that the Earth is a sphere, and not flat, and not perfectly round.
* Some have also used methods to divide the country into equal parts of lands (measured in area).
* Some methods include sea water, which Project-GC avoids.

The geocache with the highest or lowest latitude or longitude number, depending on direction. Plotted coordinates is what counts, not any final solution. As always the country assigned to the geocache is also what counts, not where it's actually geographically located.

The geocache with the highest elevation according to Project-GC's elevation data.

It's intentional that there isn't a "Lowest" category. The data isn't reliable enough.

== Weighted percent ==

The overall percentage of extremes found in a country, with region extremes weighted by how many regions there are in the country and county extremes weighted by how many counties there are in the country.

Three different percentages are calculated independently:

* Percentage of country extremes found (country extremes found / categories)

* Percentage of region extremes found (region extremes found / regions in the country / categories)

* Percentage of county extremes found (county extremes found / counties in the country / categories)

Then the average is taken of these percentages to get the Weighted percent.

If project-gc doesn't have counties for the country, then the weight of the county extremes is 0 and the Weighted percent is the average of country percent and region percent.

If project-gc doesn't have regions for the country either, then the weight for the region extremes is 0, and the Weighted percent is the same as country percent.

The bars shown are divided into sections for country percent, region percent and county percent, and by hovering your mouse over the Weighted percent, you can see these individual percentages.

The percentage shown is the average of those three. You can hover the percentage with your mouse to get more detailed numbers.

; What does ''Unique'' mean in the footer?
: A geocache can typically be both the one with the most favorite points and the one with most finds. That would grant you two ''Extremes'', but only one '''unique''' ''Extreme''.

; I have found the ''Extreme'' with the highest amount of favorite points in San Diego, but I didn't get any ''Extreme'' for California.
: The extremes are determined per administrative level. There is probably another geocache in the region (state) that has more favorite points than the one you found. It may be the one with most favorite points in San Diego, that doesn't mean it is the one with the most in California.

; I have logged GCxxxx as the oldest geocache of Noord-Brabant in The Netherlands, but it's now archived. What will happen?
: It will still count as an ''Oldest Extreme'' for you. How it works is that there is a daily process that finds the oldest non-archived geocache for each area. Then all geocaches, in that area, that are '''at least''' that old counts as the ''Oldest extreme'', regardless of if they are archived or not. The same concept applies for all ''Extremal categories''.

; Why isn't there an extreme for ''Favorite percent''?
: First off we think it's enough with two ''Extremes'' based on favorite points. But the data would be to volatile. A new geocache with a single log and one favorite point would end up at 100% FP%. The day after it might be down to 12%. We also find the [[Wilson score]] to be a better measurement for "best geocache".

; Can I lose my ''Extreme''?
: Yes, for example in the case of ''Most western'', if a new geocache which has a more extreme value is published it will beat the one you logged, and you'll lose it. Similar with ''Most logs'' or ''Most favorite'' points, if another geocache passes the one you logged it's off the list of ''Extremes''.

== General information ==

This is an expression used by [[Profile stats]] module [[Finds_tab#Extremes_by_area|Extremes by area]]

In simple terms "extremes" refers to attributes like most western, highest, most favorite points and so forth.

Some of the below are affected by the setting for [[Antipode cache]]s.

== Calculation ==

Which geocache is an extreme is determined by finding the current most extreme in its field. For example the most western one. Current meaning a none archived, but potentially disabled. Then that geocache, all geocaches that are on that coordinate, or further west, including archived, are counted as "most western". This means that there may be multiple geocaches counting as "the most western", both archived and none archived.

Various event types are excluded since the events aren't meant to be "permanent".

== Tool ==

A tool to provide the extremes in a given county, region or country is availble [https://project-gc.com/Tools/MapExtremes here]. It is possible to select multiple counties within the same region or country, in which case the extremes for all selected counties are given.

=== Oldest ===

This is based on the [[hidden date]] fields, as opposed to the [[publish date]] field. There is also a hard-coded minimum month to minimize the risk of fabricated data.

=== Most northern ===

The geocache with the highest latitude number. Plotted coordinates is what counts, not any final solution. As always the country assigned to the geocache is also what counts, not where it's actually geographically located.

=== Most central ===

The most central geocache in the area, based on geographical data (not demographical data). The central point of an area can be counted in several ways. With this fact in mind it is very likely that Project-GC's central point may not match what's commonly known. Project-GC has implemented what they believe is the most correct way to calculate it.

Project-GC uses its polygon data and then calculates a centroid using the GIS function [https://postgis.net/docs/ST_Centroid.html ST_Centroid].

Various reasons why Project-GC's center might not match other definitions:

* Project-GC calculates a Centroid. Other methods might use the center of a bounding box for example.
* Project-GC uses the polygon data it has for the area. This data might not match the data used by others.
* Project-GC uses country definitions as [[Geocaching.com]] has them. In some cases it means that islands belonging to a country does not.
* Many commonly known centers are based on very old calculations, which are less precise than we can do with today's computers.
* Some commonly known centers has been calculated by compacting the areas by removing all sea water and "moving islands" onto mainland.
* Different handling of the fact that the Earth is a sphere, and not flat, and not perfectly round.
* Some have also used methods to divide the country into equal parts of lands (measured in area).
* Some methods include sea water, which Project-GC avoids.

==Some numbers==
A list of miscellaneous statistics, generally self explanatory. The nearest and furthest caches, and the distance to the [[cache centroid]], are hidden to other users for privacy reasons but can be shown either to [[friends]] or for public if the user opts to do that in their [[Profile Stats settings|profile stats settings]].

[[Log similarity]] is an indication of how much the user's logs differ - a high score means their logs have a lot of repeated content, a low score means they are more diverse.

Below there is information about how many combination out of the 81 the user have found and how many of the caches that were rated with either Difficulty or Terrain of 3 or greater.

==Extremes by area==
This module shows which [[extremes]] has been found. In simple terms extremes refers to attributes like most western, highest, most favorite points and so forth.

By clicking the arrows in the first column one can expand a country to show data per region, if such data exists. By clicking the arrow once more the view switches to showing counties.

The current extremes are:
- Oldest
- Most northern
- Most eastern
- Most southern
- Most western
- Most central
- Highest

- Most favorited

Under each attribute there is a number that shows how many of the user’s found caches that have the attribute. Hovering over a attribute give you a tooltip that shows the name of the attribute. There is also information about how many of the attributes the user has found and the percentage of the total number of available attributes that makes.

Finding more attributes increases the user's [[The Attribute Cacher|Attribute Cacher]] Badge.

The dynamic requirement is based on how many percent of the currently active geocaches the geocacher has found. More than 100% is possible if some of the finds are now archived. Using fixed numbers only has been tried, but for almost every single geocacher it means a darker color in 1-2 zones and then light colors in all others. Also there is a big difference between finding 1,000 geocaches in Germany/Nordrhein-Westfalen vs Germany/Hamburg, which makes it hard to use only fixed numbers.

Another variant for the coloring would be base it on the number of finds a geocacher has in the zone with the most finds in it. This however has the downside that it easily happens that other zones are downgraded after logging for example a [[Power trail]], something that wasn't wished for. These are the reasons why the above system has been implemented.

== Image sizes ==
The default size of the map images are made to fit Profile stats by using a size of max 734 pixels in width or 512 pixels in height. When clicking a map it opens up in a larger version. By copy/pasting the link a user can adjust the image size to use by adjusting the scale parameter (by adding &scale=VALUE to the url). Available values are: 1 (default), 2, 4, 8, 16.

== Map sources ==
All maps are generated based on data from [[OpenStreetMap]] with one exception, Canada, which has a mix of sources. The polygon data is imported via [https://osm-boundaries.com OSM-Boundaries.com]. Additional tables detail the oldest caches by type, size and [[D/T]] ratings, stating how old each cache is in days. The D/T grid does not directly specify which cache it is, but clicking on the numer links to the cache page.

This section lists the 10 highest and 10 lowest caches the user has found, including GCcode, cache name, type, location and height.

The main focus of the tab is the badges, more information about them can be found at [[BadgeGen]]. All badges can be viewed at '[[All Badges |all badges]]'. Under the badges the user have earned there is a list of how many badges they have earned of each quality.

The tab also includes [[Country Badges |country badges]] and the [[BadgeGen Belts |belts]].

The buttons ''Badge information'' and ''Belt information'' can be used to see the requirements for each badge or the points for the belt.

This module has a list of all the user's hides, with each having the hidden date, last found date, number of finds, days per find, number of favourite points, GC-code, type and cache name listed with it. Archived caches have a strikethrough on their name.

At the top is a header, with the number of geocachers that have found the user's caches, number of logs received and number of total geocaches.

== Finders by country ==
This is a ''top list'' of what country most of the finders of the users caches come from. Generally the country where the user owns most caches will be number one on this list. The list shows the countries name and flags, how many found it logs have been posted from people that seem to be living in that country and the percentage of the total logs on the users caches. The top list shows the top 20 countries and under the list there is information about how many nationalities that did not make the top list. Sometimes there are founds from 'unknown nationalities', this is due to Project-GC calculating the nationality based on the users geocaching activity since this information is not available from Geocaching.com.

== Top finders of my caches ==
This is a ''top list'' of the accounts that have found the most of a users caches. The list shows the name of the finder, the amount of caches they have found and the percentage of the total caches owned by the user. The top list shows the top 20 finders and under it there is a box that shows the next 20 finders and how many caches they have found.

The '''Milestones tab''' is the second tab in a user's [[Profile Stats]]. As the name suggest, this tab shows a user's milestones. This tab has three [[module]]s.

== Milestones ==
The first module shows a list of the user's milestones. The first milestones are 1, 10, 50 and 100 caches, after that and up to 1000 caches every hundredth cache is considered a milestone. Between 1000 and 5000 caches every five hundredth cache is considered a milestone, and beyond that every thousandth cache is listed. At the bottom of the list the users most recent cache is shown, even if it is not a milestone.

=== Order ===
Project-GC orders the logs by three fields in ascending order.
# The date of the found log.
# The full timestamp of when the log was created.
# The ID of the log. Since logs of geocaches and logs of lab caches are from different systems their log-ids are not compatible. In this case labs are sorted last. But this will only be an issue if a log for a geocache is created on the same second as one for a lab cache.

Before 2024-02-19 Project-GC sorted the milestones based on log dates and log-ids only. Lab caches were always sorted last on every day.

=== Different milestones at Project-GC vs Geocaching.com ===

The milestones on this tab may not match the milestones shown in the user's Geocaching.com profile for multiple reasons. The milestones at Project-GC are calculated and not fetched from Geocaching.com. At Geocaching.com, the user can chose to lock their milestones to a specific cache even if it's not the milestone that is calculated by Geocaching.com, this is not possible to do at Project-GC. Geocaching.com also includes retracted geocaches, which aren't even known to Project-GC. This should not be an issue in the future since new guidelines say that logged geocaches shouldn't be retracted (but the effect for previous loggers of already-retracted cacher will remain, though).

== First cache by country ==
This is a list of the first cache the user found in each country they have found caches in. The list shows date, country, cache type, GC code and the milestone of that cache.
