When looking at stats we always use our local state as a filter. There is a button to the right of name to autofill name, to the right of country to autofill home country, how about one to the right of state to autofill home state?  Also, the multiselect option doesn't seem to work for states. Would love to be able to auto-seect a region by miles to look up stats and tools for in progect-gc.

It would help if you could provide a link to the tool you are using so we can look up what you are talking about.

With your second issue about multi-select not working for states I found it does for me if I hold down Ctrl while clicking on the desired states.  I use this tool a lot https://project-gc.com/Tools/NotLogged to help me locate potential FTFs.  When I toggle on the multi-select, I can choose multiple US states by holding down the Ctrl button.

Autofill is always nice to help speed up the process but given the enormous number of states or regions within all the different countries it would be a bit impractical from a resources standpoint.  When logged in, PGC would need to query the individual statistics to determine state or region location.  Then, it would have to provide that location changing for every logged in user.  I realize my understanding is very basic. Many people, to include myself, do not give a state or region of origin for privacy reasons.  Mine is set to "somewhere in the Milky Way."

But, you never know, this may be added to the To-Do list so it never hurts to ask.

Pick pretty much anything on the STATISTICS menu and you'll find what I'm referring to. It would just be a button to quickly add a certain state or set of states with one click, same as the one for profile and country. It could just be a static option based on either previous interactions with the site or on a preset group of items the user picks to default to.  I can imagine folks in Wyoming get super annoyed having to drag to the bottom of the state list every time they check a statistic, when one click could auto fill.

I'll try the control button for multiselect on the home computer, though my mobile obviously doesn't have that option.
Under statistics drop down, I used the 'Days since last found' tool to test the multi state choice and it worked for me on my laptop by holding down the Ctrl button and selecting states.  I don't use a smart phone to geocache so I can't advise on how to get that to work on those devices.

On the other issue perhaps a type assist feature would make sense where you start typing in the field and it will provide choices based on a letters.  That would actually be more practical but once again I don't know if it's limited by resources.
You can use the multi select tool on a smart phone. I almost always run my queries for both Florida and Georgia (convenient that they are next to each other alphabetically!). On a smart phone, you have to first click the icon on the far right that allows you to toggle to the multi select option. Then you can click in the states category and simply checkmark as many states as you want. (I have found that I have to sometimes unclick the blank space at the top of the list).
