Thjere is an internet psuedo standard (that not everybody follows) that says that when you click on a link that takes you to another site, it does not open in the same window, but opens a new window instead. However clicking on a challenge checker link in a cache description opens in the same page. Opening in a new window would make it easier to refer back to the original cache page. Not a biggie, but standards are a good thing. I would like to see the link codes from the link button in the checker tags updated to do this.

So (to pick a random tag of mine)

<a href="http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC4JDHY/788">Project-GC Challenge checker</a>
would become
<a href="http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC4JDHY/788" target ="_blank">Project-GC Challenge checker</a>

and

<a href="http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC4JDHY/788"><img src="http://maxcdn.project-gc.com/Images/Checker" title="Project-GC Challenge checker" alt="PGC Checker"></a>
would become
<a href="http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC4JDHY/788"><img src="http://maxcdn.project-gc.com/Images/Checker" title="Project-GC Challenge checker" alt="PGC Checker" target="_blank"></a>

This will not fix existing links, but at least we can start fixing the problem (I am editing my own challenges to add target="_blank" to the links).

Thanks,

Tom

I like the idea. Normally i find a cache and if the cache have a checker i would prefer to also have the geocache-site open, i always forget to right click and open another window. Its standard when you look at geocaching.com in maps and want to see look at a specific cache via the map.

Personally. I want to control what's happening, and use ctrl when I want things in a new tab, or even ctrl+shift if I want to go straight into the new tab. I do not like sites that just pops around.

I would also like to point out that I do not think the most popular geocheckers does this by default. Imo pretty much the same thing.

Finally, I will admit that all(?) external links from Project-GC opens in a new tab. This is a marketing decission, to keep users at the site. A quite common one.

There are a number of sites that do it that way. I think it's horrid. If you want a new window, right-click the link and ask for that.

I agree with BBosman and a -1 from me
Well ... thanks for that link. It could be, that there are reasons for other websites to let the user decide if they want to open a link in a seperate tab or not.
But in the case of a checker I (as a user) would be happy, if the link would open a new tab automatically. Normally I use "Ctrl" and just left-click the link (in FF) whick opens a new tab ... But sometimes I forget it and then I am annoyed if it's in the same window.

So from my point of view it depends to the "kind of link" if a new tab should open or not. And here I would like it. :)
