The user's home location assigns a country and, if available, a region to each user. This is calculated by the system based on the user's hides and finds. This is a fairly advanced algorithm where recent finds have a higher weight than older ones. Likewise hides have a fairly high weight in the formula. The home location is used in the filter "only people from" in top lists and if it is incorrect it can be manually overridden in the user settings.
The user's home coordinates assigned at Geocaching.com does not affect the user's home location.
