I have an existing challenge which was published in 2014.. would it be possible for me to have a challenge checker created for it please?

How do you define "series"?

Please let us know if this is the correct checker however the checker can produce a false positive because it can not detect if there are no more than 3 caches from a series of caches in the result.

It does appear to have the series thing covered - I would class a series as one where all the caches where a part of the name was same for all caches - WWWNLL for example on my qualification, or Bear Hunt.

The only problem with this checker is that it doesn't exclude GCV3CA which is a virtual cache disguised as a mystery - April Fool cache. I suspect it would be impossible to exclude all of these worldwide, but I wonder if this one (which is the only UK one I am aware of) could be excluded?

There must be a better way to filter out series than compare every substring between every cache name.
How about comparing only letters, not digits? Then all numbered series will be the same and easy to filter.
(Note! All series does not have numbered caches)

The checker link you gave me appears to limit the series results already but I am happy to go with your recommendation. All I want to avoid is someone finding a series of say 21 caches which are 4 years old and doing the whole lot in one day.

The current script https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC4Z33D/16859 does not use the cache name for filtering. Maybe there is something else which limits founds by wrong criteria? Do you have an example?

Your goal could be reached by limiting only one cache per birthday but this is not the answer for this challenge as the rules are different.

Thanks for that - it sounds like the perfect solution.

I will double check with my reviewer before changing the definition on the cache page - but since there is no requirement for my challenge to have a checker at all, I can't see it being an issue.

Sorry, I am mistaken. It doesn't restrict the series to 3 caches..

Bear Hunt 3- The Gate
Bear Hunt 5- The forest
Bear Hunt 8- The Scratching Tree
Bear Hunt 9-The Mud
Bear Hunt 12- The Tunnel

If the digits are deleted, it will not change anything in this case. The script should guess that "Bear Hunt" is the criterion, but there are also some individual caches with common names and it is not guarateed that the common part is at beginning or end of the title.

Maybe you should define the "series" using something else than title. Same placement date and owner could be a good signs and you could add this refined definition also in your challenge description wihout changing its meaning.

Thanks for the suggestion on this one but my reviewer says I can't change the wording on the challenge page.

I will leave it as it is - and offer the checker already there with a warning that the result may not be accurate. Most finders have been very good at removing the disqualified series caches.

I used a GSAK macro to generate my qualification proof and manually removed those caches which were excluded as per my cache page blurb.


Thanks for your effort in trying to find a way to provide a more accurate checker.
