Re: GC812VQ - RMNP 20 Earthcaches Challenge

Hi. This is my first challenge cache, so I'm still working out how to do it. I want to set up a challenge checker to verify someone has logged "found it" on 20 of the 30 earthcaches in Rocky Mountain National Park. I've set up a public bookmark listing all 30 caches, which I'd like to use as the verification basis so I can add new earthcaches to it as they are published. Is that possible?

I'm sorry, but neither geographic areas other than countries, regions or counties nor bookmark lists are acceptable as challenge criteria under guidelines 10 and 11:

Suggested easy fix: "Find at least ___ Earthcaches in Larimer County, Colorado." (Or, "Larimer or Grand County, Colorado.") The total number of required finds needs to be a reasonable percentage of all active Earthcaches in the defined region(s), in order to allow for choice.

I'll ask our local reviewer. I can see not allowing some made-up boundary, but a national park is not some arbitrary restriction.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm a reviewer. (Not in Colorado, but hey, my daughter lives there and I enjoy caching there.)

A National Park is not a county or state. For challenge cache purposes, it is a user-defined polygon. The same guideline prohibits any new "DeLorme Challenges" and many other challenges enjoyed by a decent percentage of geocachers, myself included.

So, I suggest reworking your challenge along the lines I suggested, rather than trying to pry an incorrect answer out of a different reviewer.

Thanks for the information, but I'd like to get an HQ ruling on this. It seems like such a simple challenge. If I can't use the park, then I won't do this cache at all. It would negate the reason for the challenge (increase park visitation).

I got an answer from HQ and you were right. I'm a bit disappointed, but I guess I'll have to do a different cache than I had planned now. Thanks for your help.
