Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge

[Cancelled] 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge
December 25, 2021 09:56PM
Pick any twelve different calendar dates of the 366 on the calendar and look at the caches you have found cumulatively over the years. Try and find 12 calendar dates that works for each of these twelve days of Caching Christmas as the list of requirements gets bigger each time. So for the third day you need to have at least the requirements for the first day, second, and third. They need to be 12 different days. You could do the entire challenge in 80 or less caches but I took a lot more.

I know we cannot do busy day challenges, that's why this challenge cumulates all of the finds across all the years of the game.

Here's the list (You can exceed the requirements, as long as you meet them):

First day: A mystery cache
Second day: Two caches with the Park and Grab attribute
Third day: Three size small caches
Fourth day: Four caches with difficulty 1.5
Fifth day: Caches by at least five different cache owners
Sixth day: Six size micro caches
Seventh day: Seven caches with terrain 1.5
Eighth day: Caches that were hidden on at least eight different days on the calendar
Ninth day: Nine traditional caches
Tenth day: Caches that were hidden on at least ten different months (since the game began in 2000)
Eleventh day: At least 11 Favorite points on the combined caches you found on this calendar date
Twelfth day: At least twelve smileys / caches found

My qualifying dates are
1st December 30th
2nd January 25th
3rd February 1st
4th September 10th
5th October 9th
6th October 3rd
7th June 19th
8th March 7th
9th June 1st
10th October 10th
11th July 7th
12th September 26th

Here's a mini breakdown of the caches on those dates for clarity
1st day: December 30th - GC1CM2T is a mystery cache.

2nd day: January 25th
GC4TWP8 is an unknown cache
GC3ADBE and GC3ADBP have the Park and Grab attribute

3rd day: February 1st
GC2MNP2 is a mystery cache I found in 2021 I had to dip into 2019's Feb 1st for the rest.
GC4VNY2 and GC3G9KK are Park and Grabs.
GC4VNY2 and GC3G9KK AND GC3EEXC are all size small.
And so on through all the days of Christmas.

Sorry, but this criteria is not allowed

Please read the hiding guidelines 2.12.9 Tme-Limied

Not acceptable

Good catch. I was so focused on the streak regulations I didn't notice the time limited portion in the rules not even allowing cumulative dates across years.

Possible workaround: I could design it to ignore the month AND year part and just focus on numerical day of the month.
For example the 10th day of any month and any year all accumulated. Since the challenge is designed that you only need twelve caches for even the toughest part (the twelfth day) and that would allow you to have no more than one cache on any day of the calendar even cumulative and still accomplish this challenge.

The following "Fifth day: Caches by at least five different cache owners" is also not allowed as per the guidelines
And please supply a GCcode for the checker
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge

Good point. Ok after a bit of work here is my new list of requirements:
First day: A mystery cache
Second day: Two caches with the Park and Grab attribute
Third day: Caches from three different counties
Fourth day: Four caches with difficulty 1.5
Fifth day: Five size small caches
Sixth day: Six size micro caches
Seventh day: Seven caches with terrain 1.5
Eighth day: Caches that were hidden on at least eight different days on the calendar
Ninth day: Nine traditional caches
Tenth day: Caches that were hidden on at least ten different months (since the game began in 2000)
Eleventh day: At least 11 Favorite points on the combined caches you found on this calendar date
Twelfth day: At least twelve smileys / caches found

The GC code for this cache is GC9KKKR

The cache page has the starting example of the first three months to clarify how it works. I know it gets a bit odd/confusing assigning MONTHS to the DAYS of Christmas, but hopefully this way we can do a 12 days of Christmas challenge within the rules.
Sorry again that I don't know them well enough. I've read them through several times but am still learning.
Thanks again for all you do.

Sorry Vogelbird, Another adjustment. If we set it up as a numerical day of all months and years cumulatively, then it matches the DAYS of Christmas better instead of trying to pair months to days.

My qualifying dates are
1st day - 30th
2nd day - 25th
3rd day - 2nd
4th day - 11th
5th day - 9th
6th day - 3rd
7th day - 19th
8th day - 7th
9th day - 1st
10th day - 10th
11th day - 7th
12th day - 26th

I need to update the cache page to reflect this latest update.
I do feel bad. It's like Peter Parker constantly making changes to Doctor Strange's spell.

January 11, 2022 03:53AM
Good idea. Here is an example for the 1st, 2nd, and 12th day:
Also, I consulted with a friend and they said the first day task should be a geocache in a tree (tree climbing attribute) and I agree. Sorry to change things AGAIN.

With the adjustment, my qualifying dates are:

Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge

Your example confims that the challenge conditions do not lend themselves to a simple tag, so I believe a new script would be required. I can marked this topic as a new script required for a volunteer scriptwriter who is willing to spend time on this.
But before we do so, we like to have your local reviewer involved to tell us that he would publish such a challenge

Please ask by posting a reviewer note on the cache page, remember that you have to submit the cache for review for the reviewer to see your question.
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge
January 12, 2022 03:08AM
I submitted the geocache page and let the reviewer (Ice And Wind) that we are working on the checker and need their go ahead first before committing volunteer time to designing the script. I added a few images to break down the concept.
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge
January 20, 2022 05:44AM
There was a reviewer meeting about this and the verdict was it would be better to do it as twelve separate challenges.
This is great! The script will be easier to write, local cachers get access to 12 challenges instead of 1, and it will be a lot easier to make. This weekend I'll be able to get working on this again. Would you rather me post all twelve requests in this thread, or make separate threads for all of them?
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge
January 20, 2022 11:22AM
Make one new request for all 12 because this request will have to be placed as a new script required.

At the moment the regulair volunteer scriptwriter seem to be very busy but maybe someone will be interested for a series of 12
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge

Hello kind volunteer. For this challenge series of 12 challenges, the requirements for each one accumulate, much like the twelve days of Christmas. The first one is easy, the last is pretty tough.
First day: A cache with the 'tree climbing' attribute
Second day: Two caches with the Park and Grab attribute
Third day: Caches from three different counties
Fourth day: Four caches with difficulty 1.5
Fifth day: Five size small caches
Sixth day: Six size micro caches
Seventh day: Seven caches with terrain 1.5
Eighth day: Caches that were hidden on at least eight different days on the calendar
Ninth day: Nine traditional caches
Tenth day: Caches that were hidden on at least ten different months (since the game began in 2000)
Eleventh day: At least 11 Favorite points on the combined caches you found on this calendar date
Twelfth day: At least twelve smileys / caches found

So the "first day of Christmas challenge" only requires a cache with the tree climbing attribute.
The "second day of Christmas challenge" requires both a cache with the tree climbing attribute, AND two caches with the park and grab attribute.
the "third day of Christmas challenge" requires a a cache with the tree climbing attribute, two caches with the park and grab attribute, and caches from three different counties. It continues until the twelfth day challenge has all twelve requirements.

Here are the GC codes for each of the twelve challenges:
First day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH76
Second day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH77
Third day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH78
Fourth day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH86
Fifth day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH88
Sixth day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH8A
Seventh day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH8B
Eighth day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH8D
Ninth day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH8E
Tenth day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH8K
Eleventh day of Christmas challenge: GC9NH8N
Twelfth day of Christmas challenge: GC9KKKR

The range of caches someone can use to qualify for each individual one of these challenges are any that fall on a chosen day of the month (1-31 across all months and years). Regardless of year or month, if there is one day of the month (1-31) where you can find all challenge requirement from caches across all months and years, they pass! Here are diagrams from the cache pages to help portray that date range concept.

The catch is each of these challenges needs a different day picked, otherwise the day picked for the twelfth challenge would work for them all and be redundant. I have been trying to teach myself LUA coding and I don't know how to do that last part.

Challenge caches checkers are normally required to produce a list of qualifying caches so here is an example of the first, second, and twelfth challenge's qualifying caches for me.

5th day - 6th

12th day - 26th

I know this is a probably a really difficult challenge to script. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to offer. Geocaching survives thanks to volunteers like you.
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge

I doubt this part is possible: "The catch is each of these challenges needs a different day picked, otherwise the day picked for the twelfth challenge would work for them all and be redundant."

I also think you've had some miscommunications with your reviewer. There's no difference between your "new" 12th day challenge and your "old" 12th day challenge. Why would the reviewer suggest you place 12 challenges if the initial one is publishable as is? My interpretation of suggesting 12 challenges is that you would not get the cumulative part of your challenge, so the 11th day would be 11 Favorite points only and the 12th day would be found 12 caches only etc.

I suggest you double check this concept with your reviewer again before anybody spends any time on it.
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge
February 17, 2022 01:25AM
I have asked my local reviewer for clarification.

Thanks for the help on this by the way Pleu.

I see this going one of two ways:
1) We get the green light to have the twelve different challenges but remove the need for each of them to be different days. The checkers would run independent of each other and possibly give results from the same day of the month. The list of requirements would grow, so day 12 is every requirement combined, not just 12 caches.

2) It would have to be just one thing for each challenge - day 11 would be just 11 favorite points. At that point the project would probably be scrapped and completely different challenges designed entirely. It wouldn't be anything like the 12 days song at that point.

I'll let you know when I hear from Ice and Wind.
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Cumulative Calendar Challenge

Reading the room here, I was trying to make creative challenges that haven't been seen yet that would be fun. Instead I seem to be making a really tough chore for the brilliant volunteers for a series of challenges that are becoming more and more obscure as I try to work around the rules trying to prevent challenges exactly like this.

Thank you for working with me everyone but let's save you a lot of unnecessary trouble and headaches. I'll change the challenges for these 12 to ones much easier to code.

I don't know if a '12 days of Christmas' challenge series would work where you build up with each one but this isn't the way to go.
Perhaps pick 12 D/Ts that have increasing requirements for each one. But that is another day and probably another person. I've been enough of a headache.
I'll build those new requests in the forum so they have a fresh start.
Thanks again, you were all very helpful. My request was just a bit too insane.
