[Awaiting feedback] Checker request GCA45V4 12/24 Hours of Events
January 23, 2023 03:47PM
I would like a checker to see if the cacher has attended an event 12 out of the 24 hours in a day. Event can be any day, any year, cumulative.
Event Start Time Blocks:
Hour 1 - 12:00 am to 12:59 am
Hour 2 - 1:00 am to 1:59 am
Hour 3 - 2:00 am to 2:59 am
etc,,,

GC# GCA45V4

Thanks!
Phil

I'm sorry but your challenge criteria are not allowed

Please read https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=127&pgid=206#timeLimited

Not acceptable

But it's not on a single day or calendar date it's all days of the year, thus the rule does not apply. i.e. Time Limited.

What do you mean then by "an event 12 out of the 24 hours in a day."

Please clarify

Just like the "Needed found dates" in project-gc for days, every hour would have a check. No date or day listed or required, just times.

Events attended starting at:
Hour 1 - 12:00 am to 12:59 am
Hour 2 - 1:00 am to 1:59 am
Hour 3 - 2:00 am to 2:59 am
Hour 4 - 3:00 am to 3:59 am
...
Hour 24 11:00 pm to 11:59 pm.

Does this help?

This is not possible because the timestamp is measured in days not in hours

Not sure about other locales, but here, the event description always contains the time of the event. We have access to the cache description in PGC API (although I've not used it before). So in theory we could parse the description for the time, and actually make the checker as requested. However, this might run afowl of rule #10's "allowed page elements", eg. using the cache description. However, since the event time is automatically added by the system to the description, I think it's debatable.

I could write a checker, although, it might be prudent to ask a reviewer if this method is acceptable beforehand?

Thanks bmuzzin for the reply!

My reviewer actually gave me props for the creative challenge. I'll talk to him about it, and most likely need to get final approval from GC HQ. I'll let you know the result.

Thanks again,
Phil

Out of curiosity, I look at events of various ages, and it seems that they've have different methods of advertising the times for the events in the past. It's only really events 2019 and older where times are added automatically to the description. For a period, the event time was part of the cache's metadata, and other than that, you were just relying completely on the owner to tell you within the description of the page "when". I think we could only reliably parse the 2019+ version, so that might need to be a stipulation of the challenge (events 2019 and later). I also checked events in other countries, and it appears that this time/date text is always in English, regardless of where the event takes place.
