Re: GC4ZJ1Z -dates found, full moons

I'd like to add a checker to GC4ZJ1Z which requires 13 finds on dates when it was a full moon. Is this possible? I can provide a list of qualifying dates, but need to know the required format and best way of providing that.

A list with the dates in JSON would work valida here

example with cast tree dates

But those dates will not be correct for all caches the dates depends on which location they are generated
if the full moon happen on 02:00UTC it will be 22:00EST and the full moon would be on a different date in Europe an in the US

I would suggest that you specifies for which place the full moon are generated. I suspect you use the timezone for the cache

I understand that occasionally that the full moon can fall on different dates in different time zones and the location of a cache may affect the date of the full moon. However when I set this challenge I chose to compromise to keep it simple and I don't want to change the requirements after the challenge has been live for two years.

But write is as an clarification when you link to the checker else some people might wonder why the dont qualifies if they have logged it.
add something that say that a full moon on the date on either the cache or the challenges timezone is ok but the checker only looks for the challenges timezone

The cache description already makes it clear where the definitive list is held - but I'll make it clear that the checker usess the same list

I have previously written a script which handles dates and timezones to calculate whether a cacher qualifies. It was created for a challenge which had a criterion of finding a cache on a full moon that was also Friday the 13th.

The list of full moons will probably be longer than a tag can handle, so I'll see about adding them as a pre-configured set at some stage (although if someone wants to provide me the JSON for the config I can do it sooner). The script is called "Timezone date comparison".

Thanks for your attempt to make the checker more accurate - but this challenge has been active for more than 2 years. For simplicity (in the days when checkers didn't exist!) I chose to use a single definitive list and ignore time zones.
If it was changed now then previous finders may no longer qualify, so I prefer to keep it to my original simple criteria.

Given the odds of a find being on a full moon and the fact that the finder of your cache with the least finds has 750, there's approximately a 1 in 800 chance of them not having a qualifying set of finds anyway. But if I do create a set of values for full moons by timezone, I'll certainly test your recent finders before making the checker public.

Okay, it looks like one of the last ten finders of your challenge doesn't qualify under the timezone-based checker - sillyb only has 11 different dates which were actually full moons where the caches were.

Of course, it's always up to the cache owner as to whether a cacher counts as qualifying and it would be perfectly acceptable to "grandfather" the previous finders.
