[Resolved] GC8ACPP - Platinum Earthcache Master Challenge
July 06, 2019 05:47AM
I would like a checker created to verify that a cacher has visited and logged twenty (20) or more EarthCaches in five (5) or more states/provinces/countries.

I have seen some reduced versions of this challenge before but nothing this exact yet. Thanks!

Please be more specific. Do you need a challenge of 20 finds per area, ie. 100 finds in total, or 20 in total spread over 5 areas?

I suppose that would be helpful, always easy to get stuck looking at things from a single perspective. I would like it to be for 20 total earthcache finds but they should be found in at least 5 different areas. ie 20 finds; 10 in Oklahoma, 7 in Texas, 1 in Ireland, 1 in Mexico, and 1 in Kansas.

Unfortunately combined country+region challenges gets a bit messy, since you have to test for each combination (5+0, 4+1, 3+2, 2+3, 1+4, 0+5) separately. Not sure if anybody else has a better solution, but here's a checker for you to play with for now:

Please test and let us know if it's suitable.

Try https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8ACPP/43755
More specific for the challenge.

The olalb checker only checks for 5 regions. The OP asked for 5 countries, or 4 countries and 1 USA region, or 3 countries and 2 USA regions, or 2 countries and 3 USA regions, or 1 country and 4 USA regions, or 5 USA regions.

Not how I understood it.
I read it as 5 different areas (on region level) and rereading it it's still how I interpret it (their example is 3 u.s states and 2 countries).

Scott&Brandi will just have to clarify what it is they want.

looks like that does work but I think it might be best just to simplify it and make it 5 states instead of all types of regions. So 20 total earthcache finds that must include 5 different states.

Here's a checker for 20 over 5 regions:

Way nicer output than mine, so use this one.
I'm removing mine.

This looks perfect, thanks so much everyone!

Okay, so you're going to use the 20 over 5 regions version and not the first convoluted one?

Yes, that is correct.

First checker deleted, so only the second one I provided is now valid.

As far as PGC is concerned, it's two different words for the same thing (state and region).

The areas are divided up in Country (such as the u.s or Canada), region (such as Texas or Kansas in the u.s, or Alberta or Ontario in Canada) and counties (such as 'Orange County' or 'Edmonton').

So when you say "state" do you mean what PGC sees as a region or U.S states?

State in the context = region in USA. But the way the OP asked it originally, the user is allowed to substitute a region with another country when they don't have enough regions in USA. Hence the convoluted checker I made originally.
