[Resolved] GC3N7V4 - MaxB's 1000 finds the Hard Way

Request a checker for our existing (grandfathered) challenge. GC3N7V4 - MaxB's 1000 finds the Hard Way.

It is a significant accomplishment to attain over 1000 cache finds. However only the real road warriors will be able to accomplish the 1000 finds spread over many places.

The Challenge can be met in ANY of the following ways:

20 Cache Finds in each of 50 States Provinces or Countries
25 Cache Finds in each of 40 States Provinces or Countries
30 Cache Finds in each of 35 States Provinces or Countries
40 Cache Finds in each of 25 States Provinces or Countries
50 Cache Finds in each of 20 States Provinces or Countries
100 Cache Finds in each of 10 States Provinces or Countries

We appreciate the efforts of the volunteer challenge checker writers.
Thank you

The is no script where this can be done in one checker but because as all have the same outcome this might be done with 6 seperate checkers shown on the cache page.
If explained to the cachers they can see with which one they qualify because that one will show green.

OK - What next?

Question, is the challenge limited to the US and Canada?

Regions and/ or Countries can not be mixed that is another difficulty

This is easy for us to see on their profile statistics. Cache is existing and grandfathered. If a checker cannot be made, then we will continue as before. Thought this would be similar to our GC59498 Checker.

See what you think of it , if a script writer comes up with something better I can always remove them again.

Ran several tests. A few comments:

- Can we make output for each of the checkers: "(Cachers Name) has used the (GC3N7V4) checker and (does / Does not) qualify with at least (x) Finds in each of (y) States / Provinces / Regions. (z) were required for this level."
- If they do not qualify, rather than listing the caches in the highest missing State (region), just give the count. or something like "(state) has the most finds below the threshold"
- On one of the test (FLtravelers) on the 20 finds in 50 States, the output included Utah in the list of qualifiers, however their profile only shows 19 finds.
- Also on the same test (FLtravelers), there is 49 listed qualifying states, but a blank line in the space. (A region not listed??)
- After thought, we propose having the checker look for International regions which meet the threshold. We can add a qualifier statement, indicating that if cachers meets requirement with a country, (but it doesn't show up in a single region), they can provide additional support for their qualification.

Q: - Can we make output for each of the checkers: "(Cachers Name) has ........
A: I cannot change the output on this generic script

Q: If they do not qualify, rather than listing the caches in the highest missing State (region)............................
A: Again, this can not be changed in this script

Q: On one of the test (FLtravelers) on the 20 finds in 50 States,.........................
A: This is caused by PGC polygon checking against the way geocaching.com determents the location. PGC uses actual location (coordinates) in OpenStreetMap (OSM) and geocaching the location on the cache page. I have seen differences on many occasions

Q: Also on the same test (FLtravelers), there is 49 listed qualifying states,.................
A: This is a problem that if a cacher finds caches outside a state or province, like caches out at sea (Unknown Cache types etc) , these caches are counted as regionless. In this case there is one region with no name.

Q; After thought, we propose having the checker ....

There is another script I can use that gives less details

If qualifies ,
FLtravelers has found required number of caches (20) in each of 52 Regions (required number of Regions: 50).

Not qualified,
Russ and Dana does not qualify for this Challenge yet.
But don't worry! You are on right track to fulfil the Challenge soon. Let's go to find some caches out there!

You have found required number of caches (20) in 30 Regions so far. Required minimum is 50 Regions.

Thank you for looking for other scripts that may meet our request. We still have issues with the following:
Q: On one of the test (FLtravelers) on the 20 finds in 50 States,.........................
A: This is caused by PGC polygon checking against the way geocaching.com determents the location. PGC uses actual location (coordinates) in OpenStreetMap (OSM) and geocaching the location on the cache page. I have seen differences on many occasions
In this case: Project-GC, on the MAP statistic page, shows they only have 19 caches, not the 20 required. It is still listed in the output.

Q: Also on the same test (FLtravelers), there is 49 listed qualifying states,.................
A: This is a problem that if a cacher finds caches outside a state or province, like caches out at sea (Unknown Cache types etc) , these caches are counted as regionless. In this case there is one region with no name.
Can regionless caches be excluded?
When this had been an issue on our other county checkers, the developer was able to exclude regions with null or no name.

See below:
Target.

I guess that is becauce there is caches in Florida with no county. Likely located out at see. The checker should not treat an empty result as a county. But it might be problems for countries without countries

If these items can't be addressed, then we are requesting that the scripts you created be removed from the challenge checker database.

Thank You for your trying to help with this grandfathered challenge caches.

OK I disabled the checkers and made a new one based on the easy scipt where I can exclude regionless caches

For the test there is one made for 20 Cache Finds in each of 50 States or Provinces
http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC3N7V4/23522

The nameless region is out, but FLtravelers found 22 caches in Utah
[FLtravelers](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=FLtravelers) has used [Project-GC](http://project-gc.com/Challenges//23523 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if he/she qualified for this challenge and he/she did.

User has 22 finds (22 needed).Filters:( region:Utah)

gccode cache_name
GC2407Y Sandy, Salt Lake, Mapleton, Price
GC18FK5 Wilson Arch
GCJG49 Arches National Park - Delicate Arch
GCHQGR Canyonlands National Park- Mesa Arch
GCHQFJ Arches National Park- Balanced Rock
GC177KB Delicate Arch
GCHQFR Arches National Park- The Arches
GC264YX Big Bend Campground
GC1M6YX Goblin Valley State Park (V2)
GC1GQE7 L.D.S. Tithing Office
GC1YFQV Multiple Monuments
GC1PJR6 Tunnel Hill
GCHQMX Bryce Canyon National Park- Inspiration Point
GC1M49G 20 MPH
GCHQMK Zion National Park- Checkerboard Mesa
GCN8TY Mt. Carmel Hole in the Wall
GCB598 Utah MOVING Cache #2
GCA87C Utah MOVING Cache #1
GCDB76 Utah MOVING Cache #3
GC3PTKQ Dinosaur National Monument Quarry
GC7C75 Paul Bunyan's Derrier
GC893F A Gorgeous Cache by a Dam Site

If you like this one , I will make the others

We would be down to 19 caches if there was an easy way to exclude
GCB598 Utah MOVING Cache #2
GCA87C Utah MOVING Cache #1
GCDB76 Utah MOVING Cache #3

But at the moment they are difficult to exclude in one go. Maybe the script writer knows a solution

Howdy,

Seeing this languish, I decided to take a moment and take a stab at it.

http://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC3N7V4/24996

It tries to exclude any region that is "".
It also explicitly excludes location less caches.
It does take a stab at all the configurations.
It is configured only for US and canada.

Downsides are the output and reporting are low.

Another great job by Sloth69. Thank you. We will add a note to the page indicating checker doesn't look at Countries, but cacher can add them manually if needed to qualify.

That would be great - our challenge included international caches
