[Resolved] GC7P56H - Indian-Pacific

[Resolved] GC7P56H - Indian-Pacific
May 04, 2018 11:17AM
I am looking for a checker similar to https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC59480_maxbs-golden-spike-contiguous-county-challenge but for Australia.

The challenge I am proposing is for finding a cache in a string of counties from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean across Australia.

Thanks

It is a lot of work to make this checker . I'm not talking about a few houres but close on a week full time work.
In the States this challenge will not be approved because some reviewers have problems with bounberies in the water and boundaries where 3 or 4 counties have a joint touching point.
It is therefor imported to know if your reviewer will approve such a challenge before we do a lot of work.

I will check with our reviewer

I have spoken with our reviewer and he has placed a few hurdles to publishing and one of them is a checker is needed even though the challenge can be determined by the county map.

Ok I will start on the json file which is the basis of the checker. Can you give me the names of the Counties bordering the indian ocean and also the pacific so we have the corners the same
for example is Karratha (C)(5) still Indian Ocean or North Coast.

Another problem are the big inlets or rivers
for example is Nedlands (C)(5) connected to Melville (C)(5)
or is Perth (C)(5) connected to South Perth (C)(5)

In the census details they are separated by water although Perth and South Perth are connected by bridges

Please give advice

This is fine for me but I still have a question unanswered about the inlets/river how do you want to treat this.

plus a situatuion where 3 or 4 counties joint at one point how do I treat this

In the US challenge that this is based on has "Counties separated by a river are considered adjacent, even though there is not a bridge across the river between the counties."

So I cant see why counties on either side of a river are adjacent with or without a bridge.

Here is the link to the checker https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC7P56H/35240

Please test and confirm

I had to exclude in Victoria all the Unincorporated Local Government Areas and in the Northern Territory the Unincorporated Local Government Area in the county MacDonnell because those area's were interfering with the results

Can you repond to my answer because it took me almost 100 hrs to get the checker ready

Sorry for the delay. I have been in the outback with little or no phone or internet. Have just made Darwin.
Have just done a couple of checks and it looks great.
I have decided to place 4 caches now using the checker.
One in Perth, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney so that anyone who is travelling can sign one as they finish the challenge.
Eventually will probably have the original in Adelaide and then another in Brisbane.
Hope to have the Darwin one published before I hit the road again next week.
Thanks for the time you spent on this - I am impressed.

Remember that each cache requires his unique checker on his GCcode
Re: GC7P56H - Indian-Pacific

Does that mean I can't link each cache to the same checker

No, you can't. But either you can clone the tag or request us to and it would take a matter of seconds (maybe a minute if the system is being slow) to create duplicates.

It has taken a while but have finally got one challenge cache published using the script.

https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC8050T_indian-pacific-challenge-east

The plan is to get one published in each state of Australia so that which ever State you are in, you will be able to log a cache. Or go for the whole set. :)
