[Resolved] GC8CTXY - Top Ten US State Challenge
August 30, 2019 07:19PM
Hello,

I need a challenge checker for GC8CTXY - Top Ten US State Challenge.

In order to qualify for this challenge cache :-

You must have found the Top Ten Caches by Favourite Points in Any One US State.

The checker should output these fields :-

[Date-Found] , [US-State] , [GC-Code] , [Fav-Points] , [Cache-Name]

BTW, I'm from Ontario in case you're wondering about the title of the challenge.

Thanks,
Op7ion

Here's a checker for you:

Please test and let us know if it's suitable.

WOW - that was fast work (:P)

Absolutely love the script output !!!

Couple things to tweak :-

1. The last line should read "**You have found 10 of 10 required caches.**" if successful. OR, "**You have found 5 of 10 required caches.**" if you did not qualify. Or, maybe "**You have found 10 required caches.**".

2. The script iterator jumped from #4 to #6 for ranking the caches. (see my search below from GC.com)

Just a wild guess - maybe it's something to do with Archived or Disabled caches.

3. The checker ranking & output works for user BWJM & Norshley.

[Op7ion](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=Op7ion) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC8CTXY/44688 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.

Not my script, but I'll attempt to get feedback from the author of this script.
1. That should actually be 1 of 1 region, but yes, it's confusing as is.
2. I wondered why it ended at 11 but never noticed the gap between 4 and 6.

Edit: I found a way to show the missing #5 by making it more verbose. And yes, it's an archived cache.

1. I fixed this in the configuration.
2. Hopefully fixed by the change I made above?

Can the script be configured to ignore "Archived" caches ?

I think this would fix the problem and make the challenge simple. Use the "Challenge Checker" or "Advanced Search" on GC.com to determine qualifications. The results from both would be more consistent for new & experienced cachers.

The challenge requirements would state - "Archived" caches do not count.

What do you think ?

I remember that archived caches must be taken into account anyway.

OK - need some advice

So, maybe I can say - "Archived Caches" can be ignored.

Would this appease the reviewer ? Any suggestions ?

Or, am I just a bit too cautious.

[ EDIT ] - the checker was working but now it says it's disabled. I take it "we" are still coding and tweaking ?

Thanks,
Op7ion

Thanks to arisoft's quick response, the output should be better now and skip archived caches when they've not been found by the user. Please let us know if you're happy with it now?

@pieterix,

I need a small adjustment to Challenge Checker :-

Find Ten of the Top 15 Caches by Favourite Points in Any One US State

So 10 from the Top 15 caches - everything else is OK.

Thanks,
Op7ion
