[Resolved] Checker request for an old challenge GC41CYZ
April 29, 2022 05:36AM
Hi there -
I recently adopted this challenge GC41CYZ "The Directionally-Challenged Challenge Cache" and it didn't have a checker, though I saw some cachers were using this checker "https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC43NPW/20303"; that listed the directional cache titles, and used 50 as the qualifying number.

Would you be so kind as to adapt this checker so the satisfaction level is 75 caches, and it checks that there are at least 10 caches in each of the ordinal directions, North, south, east and west.

Thank you very much for all you do.

Thanks -
It works very well. Would you be able to add a summary line before the cache list that says
"You have found xyz out of 75 required caches with the specified words in the name."
so folks can paste an abbreviated summary in their log?

I find that I'm unable to paste my whole list into a log because it exceeds to 4000 character limit on logs.

Thanks again

Thanks for the quick reply and for modifying the checker to fit my challenge.

Hello again -
Not quite sure whether this is the correct place to post this, but I got a note from a cacher Brad&Janet who tried using this checker without success. I tried several times with their cacher name and the checker timed out. They can use the other checker I referenced for this challenge, https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC43NPW/20303, and it works for them.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Thanks for all your assistance
don

The checker is timing out because it does not find a solution. This is a problem with this script but it in short it means that they do not have sufficient directional finds. Only 59 of the 75 in there also missing 1 East.

It would be nicer if the script would print the missing directions but I don't think the scriptwriter will spend time on a script for checkers which are no longer allowed

Hi there -
I didn't realize that asking for the display of the first ten of each direction would cause the problem (and using a different base for the checker). Would it be possible to use the referenced checker, https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC43NPW/20303, and just modify it to the have 75 as the satisfaction criteria, and not be concerned for the ten in each direction, since the odds are high that with enough caches the cacher will achieve that. I realize that Brad&Janet are lacking one in a particular direction, but if they find another 14 more, odds are good it will contain this missing direction.

Sorry for the change of direction for the checker.
Thanks again

Here is the checker when I drop the condition of 10 cardinal directions and used the other script
